GRIZ/WEBER

This team is so close to crossing over to a winning team. There are a few mental things to take care of. Turnovers and free throws are two of the main ones.

All season it's been "One of these games the Griz are going to turn it around."

Pretty soon it's going to be "One of these seasons the Griz are going to turn it around."

There are good athletes/players on the roster. The coaching staff just can't mold them into a functional team. :twocents:

Grizsupporter, I could be wrong b/c I had to listen to the game, but I believe Mick said both teams were out of timeouts before WSU shot that free throw

I just looked at ESPN's box score and it says that McGillis played and was 0-1 from the field. Is that a misprint?

I am a fan of not using a time out in that situation. It is easier to get penetration and either get a lay up or an assist in that situation. Martin picked up his dribble instead of taking it toward the hoop.

turnovers and freethrows and rebounding all need improving, and the guards turned it over 6xs to sharp strait and hasquets 9xs. my point is directed to the guard play being the problem. the whole team shares in the mistakes along with the coach. they are just out of sorts as a team but hopfully will be able to turn this around and be playing as one soon.

Did I also hear right, Hurley got in for a couple minutes. I coulda swore I heard Mick call his name.

This is getting damn near unbearable to watch. Just ridiculous. There's no fire, no inspired play. When they're not playing uptight and stiff, they're playing lazy.

Agreed. This team is simply not good. There are too many things wrong to point at any one player or coach. Frankly, this team doesn't do ANYTHING particularly well. This isn't a team solid in the post, doesn't have good guard play, doesn't shoot the 3 well, doesn't play strong defense, isn't good at the FT line, etc, etc, etc...

8th place doesn't lie...It's too late in the season to be finding your identity. Frankly, it's time to look to the future. We have some great kids coming up in Selvig, Hurley, etc...I would sit Martin (he's selfish and not overly bright) and get time for the young kids now-

When you out rebound the other team, have only 2 more turnovers, shoot over 50% from the Field, near 50% from 3 pt land, you should win, but NO!!!!!! 43% Freaking % from the FT line, Are you kidding me??? I am sorry, but a guard at a MINIMUM, should shoot 70%. You do not belong in college basketball as a guard if you can't make a FT, I am sorry. I am sick of Holien's excuse that they use to much energy catching up, well, either they are not in good enough shape, or they can't make a damn free throw, which is it?

Unhappy camper.

Nope, you heard wrong.

But, a player very rarely seen, Vanderjagt, played. Nice to see him get some minutes. Last time I saw him play, he looked lost. But, this time it looked like he knew what he was doing. So, he is improving in practice. He was wide open once, but guard CET couldn't see him or something. Vanderjagt was in the key for at least 3 - 4 seconds waiting for CET to get him the ball being wide open during that 3 - 4 second time period that he was in the key. But, instead CET tried to penetrate and traveled. I guess Vanderjaft would have been called for 3 seconds if it weren't for CET traveling.

I guess the bright spot, if there is one, is that now no one can possibly accuse anyone who shows up to root for this team as being either a "bandwagon" or a "frontrunner" fan.

I'm not in any way suggesting it's acceptable for a UM team to perform this poorly in a core sport. I'm saying now it's obviously more than just a temporary slump and the onus is on the fans not to turn their backs on the team. Guys like 8Pokey8 and Bengal00 think we're not loyal enough to keep it up in a disappointing year. They've been waiting years for the chance to come in here and kick us while we're down. The least we can do is prove them wrong on the loyalty issue.

Just got home from the game, very frustrating, but really not as bad as Thursday - I didn't expect the griz to win, so they didn't disappoint.

A couple of good things, CET has realized he can dribble penetrate, I think we might see more of that, he seems to be gaining confidence in his ability to run the offense.

I liked that Tinkle changed the starters, and went with 3 bigs and 2 guards. The game changes when Qvale is in there, he just needs more time, and patience from the coaches, when he makes freshman mistakes.

Obviously free throw shooting was horrendous, sometimes it just goes like that. I've heard Mick's excuse too that you use too much energy climbing the hill - it's bs = the reason you fall behind in the first place is lack of playing with purpose and intensity for 40 minutes - laziness kills every time - the reason you lose close games is laziness and lack of intensity - whether it manifests itself in turnovers, missed free throws, rebounds, shooting %, or run an bomb 3 point shooting, it all has a common culprit - laziness and lack of intensity.

I was a little disappointed during the post game show to hear Tinkle say that the coaches can't do anything about free throw shooting, that there are no schemes coaches can raw up to make the free throws - I remember Krystkowiak's first year they had a rough patch shooting free throws, and he got them straightened out, but he took responsibility for it, and didn't shove it off on the team. of course Krystkowiak was all about hard work, with a mantra of get your work done early.

I was also disappointed to hear Tinkle say he grabbed CET in the tunnel and told him he wished he had taken it the length of the floor and drove for a layup or dish out - uh coach, the time to tell him that was in the timeout right before the free throw, not after the game was over. The fact that he didn't know what you wanted him to do in the live game situation is a reflection on the coaching staff, and sums up this team, in my opinion.

I know Tinkle and Mick can't admit it, but let's be honest - this season is done. After every loss there has been a reason to stay positive - +1 on the road , only 3 games in, long road trips and now home play starts, 1-4 teams have won the conference before. etc. - each week those reasons for optimism go away. if the Griz lose to EWU at home Thursday, then Tinkle needs to accept the obvious - this season is toast. Rather than worry about hoping to get 3 conference wins to get that 6 spot int eh tourney, worry about next year. Sit Martin and Strait until Senior night - they won't help you next year. The only thing trying to salvage this season by not letting the underclassmen get lost of minutes does is destroy the next couple years as well.

Be honest with the fan base, tell them you are giving up on this season to try to be a contender next year, maybe you salvage some of the fan base. Hold on to your fleeting dreams of doing something this season, and you will destroy the fan base, and be in the same situation next year, part of a cycle of the program circling the drain.

I gotta disagree with ya, grizbeer, about the giving up the season position you think Tinks should employ. If he did come out and say that I would be absolutely disgusted in that kind of leadership. I do agree that losing to EWU will probably be the last straw for great things this year, but to give up on the season is too far. Also, I don't think sittin Drew would be a great answer either. He has worked very hard for this program too long to just be brushed aside. If this was a video game, sure, your theory would be fine, but this is real life and you cant turn on someone like that, especially since he isnt a problem. I do think Martin should come off the bench, maybe 20 minutes a game tops. Don't give up on this season, but maybe start gettin the younger guys in for increased minutes. Just play with the roster and get some experience. PLEASE, play Graves. Thats all I gotta say about that.

im still backing the griz. the conference is evenly matched this year and all teams have weapons, from coaches to players to hustle. we were thought of very highly this year as others were underestimated and were just a step behind. hopfully everything will come togather and we will be strong the 2nd half of the season while other teams will be waning. ybe we can be a spoiler team and other teams underestimate us. go griz!

I watched on TV..I hav e not given up yet.

Crazy mad about freee thorws and turn overs altough Stauds and
Cet had good assist to to ratio. I loved that dunk on the zone breaker
finially it looked like we had some plays working on Offense.

stauds 4 for 6 shooting threes..Solid

Jordon rebounding ..Great
big t overs bad.

last shoot.. was plenty of time to get a shoot off - bad

CET driving good !!

Martin had a nice drive and kick..but a couple of bad shots and
burns on D

HAVE YOU EVER SEEN A GRIZ FAST BREAK ?????? WALKING IT
UP WHEN THEY ARE BEHIND....come on.

we have lost a lot of close games that could have gone either
way...we will run off two or three straht wins now. the tourney
is not out of question !!

I stand by the comment this is a bad team. I went to the MSU/ISU game last night. Idaho State is not a quality opponent. They can't shoot worth a damn, their offense is just a bunch of guys standing around looking for the ball and not moving. And the Cats CRUSHED them! We lost to them at home...

This is a lost season...

About everything has already been said about this game. The offense still is poor with way too many last second desperation shots. The plan/execution of the last play was pathetic. Martin dribbling into a corner can't possibly have been the plan. To me, the one bright spot was the play of CET. I think he may emerge as a leader on this team. I don't expect the Griz to be in the playoffs this year. This reminds me a lot of Holst's 3rd season. :twocents:
