GRIZ/Weber State game 2 thread

I put this on another thread, but reposting here. That was a great "Senior Night" for these guys. Jordan had both his parents there, and got nice coverage in the Missoulian.

Poker would not be Jordan Gregory's game.

If he was holding a good hand, you'd know it; if not, you'd know that too.

Montana basketball fans have never had to guess how the senior from Pueblo, Colorado, is feeling on the basketball court.

Who can forget the photo of Gregory and Keron DeShields holding up Kevin Henderson while celebrating on the bench during the Grizzlies' first of two straight Big Sky Conference championships in 2012?

Perhaps you've seen him holster an imaginary six-shooter after draining a 3-pointer? Or lifting himself off the floor and pounding his chest after one of his patented drives to the rim? Or imploring an official to make a call after he feels he's been fouled?

Nice dinner afterwards; really a great day for the players in their senior year.

Terrific game and night for the SR's. They all played a huge role in a solid beating of a very talented Weber State team. Weisner played terrific defense and offense. He, along with Bradshaw and Dunn were keys for the GRIZ offense in the 1st half. Gregory again did a little of everything. He played great defense, and was pretty consistent through the game offensively. Kemp was able to play very physical against Weber State's bigs. He kept them from getting post position and rebounding. Every Sr did exactly what was expected of them, then some in their SR night game.

Thank you Jordan, Mike, and Chris for everything you all have done and brought to the program. Now finish your SR regular season with bringing the tournament back to Missoula this season!!!!

"Before our warmup even started we looked at the scores and saw that Eastern lost, so we got together as a group and said, ‘It’s now or never,’" said Griz junior Martin Breunig, who led the Griz with 19 points and 10 rebounds. "I’m glad we did it."

WOW, Decuire chewed some serious ass and gave the team a tongue lashing after Weisner's technical. That is the most fired up I've seen DeCuire yet. That man does have some fire, when needed.

Speaking of Travis, we will be lucky if he is here longer than 3 years. He has every intangible of a great coach. There really has not been much of a learning curve for him as a 1st time Div 1 head coach. His strategic adjustments are that of a great veteran coach. :thumb:
Sundberg proclaimed Travis as BSC Coach of the Year during the game last night. Pretty sure none of us would argue that.
Travis and the entire staff have done an excellent job this year and Travis has a high ceiling in college basketball.
I'm not sure Jono gets enough credit for his role in developing Breunig. Martin is a big part of our success this year, and it's unlikely he'd be as dominant without Jono's coaching.
Bottom line, we are very fortunate to have Travis and his staff here!

Bolomboy - 5 points. 1 3-pointer in first half and 2 free throws. 5 turnovers. Got 10 rebounds, tho.

Weber bigs were 4-10 shooting. Only 10 shots for the group. One was a three-pointer. Thus, 3-9 otherwise. They got some rebounds, but only 3 offensive. Great defense on them by Griz.

Rebounds were even at 27 each.

DeCuire seemed to be more active coaching during the game than I have seen him all season (or noticed him all season). He obviously wanted to win this game.

I don't know what kind of coach Jono is (assume he is good), but have noticed that he is incredibly articulate and knowledgeable when he is doing radio interviews. Polished and very good information and insight.

Breunig and Gfeller has 5 points at the half, on 2-5 shooting.

Breunig had 2 defensive rebounds in the first half, but got 7 offensive bounds and 1 defensive bound in the 2d half. Krslovich didn't get a rebound in the game, and Kemp had only 1 (I think off a missed free throw), but they both boxed very well, keep a few alive, had some tip outs, and allowed other players to get the bounds. Weisner had 2 rebounds, both in the 2d half.

I submitted my game plan built around getting Kemp 12 good minutes, instead of 2.
Ha! :thumb:

The coach threw off my game plan of 12 when he inserted the seniors with 1:22 to go, so he could take them out 40 seconds later and give the crowd an opportunity to give them another ovation.

Rightfully so. I'm surprised he doesn't get more technicals. He pulls those cheap shots every so often in games. If he wasn't a griz I would find it hard to be a fan of his.

Whatever happened to that Berry kid that BBQ U had? wasn't he just a sophomore last year or was he only 1 year younger than Cherry? Maybe he went on his 2 year mission?

Berry was a senior last year. He'd been a JC transfer.
