GRIZ/ Weber game thread

... But holy shit does this team suck at putting teams away and making free throws. They only shoot 67% from the FT Line, that’s pretty damn awful and will cost them a game I guarantee it.
,,,
They truly are awful. That 66.9% rate puts them at #275 out of 351, according to NCAA stats. (THe #1 team -- Incarnate Word -- is shooting at over 80%, BTW.) Unless I missed something in my quick scan, UM is the worst at foul shooting in the Big Sky.

A little off subject, but did the Griz do their bouncy, hype party to end the shoot around again tonight?

Yes, but I believe it was Rorie with the dunk this time.

Very nice! Hope they keep this up! I was bummed they didn't start the stream in time to catch that this game. Going to have to try and travel up to a home game again to catch this.

Try this for pregame. Last 30 seconds for group dunk

Nice! Thanks for the link. LOVE that they're doing this!

Can't figure out Montana's lineup, to finish out the game, falls and Moorhead to the end. Wow. Don't see either one that great defensively. They are both big time liabilities shooting and ball handling when Montana has the ball it's like 3 on 5 basketball..

Moorhead gets the minutes he does because of his defense.

His Defense on Harting was pretty great. Jerrick can really shoot, though. Made some really tough shots.

Stifling first half, Akoh’s second half pace Griz past Weber, into first

Terrific game to attend. Both teams played with a lot of heart and energy. The GRIZ did show some extra toughness and grit. They responded perfectly after things got a little heated. Akoh did as a true strong big man should do. He played the role of Superman, and didn't shy away from taking charge. Weber State had nobody that could handle his raw strength, in the post. He single handily put 3 defenders in foul trouble. I actually began to feel sorry for the Weber State post players. Akoh absolutely was THE MAN in the 2nd half. Credit the staff and teammates for committing to him. He even made a few key steals. His save and lob ahead to Rorie for the fastbreak dunk was absolutely leadership, hustle, and heart personified. His 2nd half was the "BITE" and spitting Weber players out, was exactly what I was referring to a few weeks ago. That was exactly what I wanted to see from 1 or all our SR's. Look out Big Sky, if Akoh commits to this kind of attitude rest of the season!!!

Also, how about the heart, passion, and bite that Oguine and Falls played with? DeCuire said both played hurt. I honestly couldn't tell in pregame. I saw the old bite and attitude return to Falls. He played hard every second he was on the court. He was also back to celebrating with his teammates. That was so encouraging to see. Bobby Moorehead's defense, heart, and hustle were huge as well. His defense and versatility are among the best in GRIZ basketball history. He has all the intangibles and attitude that don't show up in individual stats.

I try my best to pay attention to the bench as well. Tonight, that bench was into the game. They were constantly encouraging their teammates. They were all engaged. Egun and Miller are going to be terrific leaders, starting next season. Egun goes out of his way and is charismatic, even in street clothes. I can't imagine how he will be when he is playing.

It was a terrific W for the GRIZ. To me, it goes beyond the W though. I finally saw the complete cohesiveness of every player, and a BITE of a GRIZZLY bear. I hope and pray to see all those things remain. Despite Weber State losing, they impressed me with their heart and desire as well. They never folded, and believed they could come back, and they did. Both teams showed the heart of Champions.

I don't do this often, but got to give the referees credit for not letting things get as ugly as they could have. The time they took to review the 2nd half extra curricular activity was perfect. Yes, it took longer than most would like, but it was needed. They managed to calm both teams, and most the fans. After that, the refs were absolutely in control of the game. Surprisingly enough, they did a solid job rest of the game. Before that, they were making it more difficult than they should have.

Great job, both teams. Can't wait for the rematch, in Ogden.

I’m sorry, but a team you have down by 22 points should never get back to within 4. We’ve got some major issues to address or this team isn’t getting out of the tourney.

he should also be at least a threat to hit a open 3 , sorry his ability to do that has been alarmingly bad since his freshman year.

Pulllleeeeeeeessse! Let the celebration run its course. A 'W' is a 'W.' They are not going to win the national championship. "We're #150, We're #150," or wherever they stand. They earned their 15 seconds of fame. Tonights game reinforced why I rarely watch Griz BB. Faces change, but being consistently inconsistent never changes. Probably why only 5500 showed up, on a Saturday night, for a rivalry game. Those staying away know its deja vous all over again. I think you're right AZ, major issues, no dance. Again.

You wonder if some of these worthies have ever actually watched any bb. Comebacks like this one by Weber are far more the rule than the exception in any case where the teams are fairly evenly matched. You just sit there waiting for it to happen, and it almost always does. Human Nature … the little man inside regards as bullshit all the relentless haranguing by coaches re. the concept of never ever everever letting up. You can beat it to death for the outer man and he will claim on his mama’s life that he has bought into it, but when the lead looks too good and the odds are stacked in your favor, the little man will take a little break and he’ll stay with it until he feels like he’s goddamn ready to get back off the couch. Underlying it all is an ancient wisdom … unrelenting effort may help in the short run, but down the road, it will catch up to you and you will drive into a freaking tree. A whole, new, subtle and nuanced stratagery for dealing with this classic conundrum needs to be devised by sports psychologists and taught to coaches to save everyone from the current, counter-productive, wheel spinning idiocy.

I don't agree.

Moorehead had an outstanding game. Besides terrific defense, he made alot of other plays, big and little. He took only 2 shots, making 1. 2 blocks, a steal and an assist. His percentage from 3 is slightly better than Falls. Yes, I wish he was shooting the 3 a bit better.
