GRIZ/WEBER game 2 thread

Probably the best 6-7 minute stretch of Hutchinson's Griz career. Against Tresnak he scores 6 points, I think gets 2 offensive rebounds, and forces two fouls on Tresnak.

Fun game to be at, all of the guards were great. Jamar was on a different level, he's got to be in the running for MVP again. Dunn is a rising star, great rebounds and one real nice steal. Gregory was clutch late. Deshields was real intense on D and really set the emotional tone.

Refs were real bad late. Missed travels, gave weber a timeout when they didn't have possession the ball, called some phantom fouls.

Welcome to the Big Sky, eh Brint?

Nice win. Slow start, mainly by not making shots, and then a strong and consistent game. Both teams shot well.

Kareem was very good. Only 3 turnovers for team. Guards drove to the hoop well, especially in the second half. Dunn led with 6 rebounds and a strong game. First game in Missoula for his parents. Hutch had a nice second half of the second half, after not doing well in the first half. Boxed, defended, got 2 offensive rebounds, and scored the bunnies. Tresnak was tough to stop, but got 2 fouls in the first half and sat, picked up a 3rd foul and stat, and eventually fouled out. Kemp had a nice 1st half stint, and was pretty good earlier in the second half. The Griz kept Bolomboy from scoring (2), and kept Berry from going wild (12). Bench scoring was 13 for UM and 4 for Weber. Gregory had 6 assists, and Kareen 0.

3530 attendance. Disappointing, but a pretty good crowd in terms of noise.

Almost all of the bad and horrible calls were by the short ref. He was absolutely terrible. Shouldn't be allowed to ref a Big Sky game. Only one bad call, the timeout given to Weber when the Weber kid went down and lost the ball in front of the scorer's table, was another ref.

Interesting, the LG drew 3456 against UND last Saturday night...

Weber managed just two points in the last three and one half minutes of the game. There was nothing Weber could do ...

Weber averages 74. Montana's outstanding defensive effort keeps them to 57.

As good as Weber is, they have a weakness too. They struggle against aggressive zone defenses. Seriously, the conference tournament can be won by any of the 7 teams that make it this season. The last 2 seasons, I knew it was either the GRIZ or Weber State.

Obviously the W/L record will hurt him compared to someone like Berry but he's near the top of the league in points, assists, and rebounds, he's forced to play a ton of minutes but remains incredibly efficient and is solid (and then some) on the defensive end. I don't watch enough of the rest of the conference to make a judgement on it, but by the numbers he's the best player in the conference once again.

Weather was bad late in the day and up to game time in Msla. May have kept some people away.

Weber

Davion Berry averages 18.9 points per game, Montana kept him to 12. Averages 4.3 rebounds, last night, just one.

Joel Bolomboy averages 8.7 points, got just 2 at Montana. Rebounds, he met his average, 11.1.

Kyle Tresnak, averaging just 11.2, really opened up last night with 23 points. He has had barn burners before, 24 pts at BYU, 22 at Northern New Mexico, 20 at Sac State. Three rebounds compared to his average of 5.

Gittens, one of their reliables, averages 6.3, got 0 last night, and 1 rebound instead of his average of 3.

Senglin, average 11.2 but has had breakout games of 18, 23, had 10 points, and half as many rebounds as usual (1 compared to 2).

Very good defensive effort for Montana.

Wayne commented the team was willing to concede a good game to 1 of 2 big men, not both. The GRIZ objective was to not let both have great games, and more importantly keep their perimeter players from going off. MISSION ACCOMPLISHED!!!!!! :thumb:

Mid-way through the 3rd quarter we were down six in the rebound column, and we fought back to lead by one until Weber State got a few late ones to edge back on top. Great effort.

Was just able to watch the game. Well played by both teams. Weber just got flustered during the last five minutes. Loved the aggressive, unselfish play all around. Jamar completely owned Bolomboy. Very entertaining. That's what makes this griz team frustrating, they look like league leaders some nights, and then doormats the next. Hope they make a strong push down the stretch!
