Griz vs Wyoming Part 2..

We're fine. We're two big guys away from a damn good team, and they'll be on the roster next season. Be that as it may, we can still win this conference.
Sure...then just another couple years away from the perfect guard and another couple away from the perfect post.

I agree with AWF that the Griz will be a better team next season.

I predict once we get through this extremely difficult pre-season the Griz will make some noise in the conference. They are to well coached and have so many weapons that they will shine come conference time. Don't know if I'm ready to predict conference championship but baring injuries they should be in the thick of it.

I'm 100% with Sport's assessment above on the "state of the Griz" for this year.

Proofs to me: • Measurable improvement game-by-game. And, • Statistical proof in multiple areas (rebounding, assist-to-turnover ratio, free throw %, steals and blocks) equal to or better than each opponent since the loss to WSU. Their only inconsistent stat is a fluctuating shooting percentage from the field... which could be attributed to several factors but is nonetheless worrisome.

The final component is something that's hard (possible, but hard) to coach: Leadership. To this point it's hard to identify one player willing and capable of saying (verbal leadership) and doing (backing up the words with action) what's necessary to lead a team to wins during the crucial final moments of a tough game. Griz fans saw that leadership growth in Anthony Johnson, Will Cherry and Jordan Gregory. This team has several players who are capable. I look forward to observing how things play out.

Amen! Amen!

Nothing has changed my faith in this coach, his system, the direction he's leading this program. Sure, we could have had a winning record right now, and would by scheduling the cupcakes we used to play at home. But any program trying to raise its profile is going to go through these kinds of struggles. And I don't care what the final score is Tuesday night at Oregon, I am so happy we are playing UP, and I can watch the game at home on Pac12 TV. That has not been a luxury often afforded us Griz basketball fans.

As to the team itself, don't forget that two key guys on this team--Samuelson and Pridgett--are freshmen. As Al McGuire said, the best thing about freshmen is that they become sophomores. Pridgett especially as a true freshman is making some defensive mistakes that he will overcome. I look for him to improve as the season goes on. And Samuelson has been a major surprise.

But besides that, Krslovic is blossoming. Lopez is stepping up as a major clutch contributor. Oguine is back, and he's just as good as we remembered. Rorie has been the player we hoped for. Wright is finding his game. There are some very nice developments going on with this team.

And while I am still looking forward to next year, I'm not done with this year, by a long shot. I think when we get to conference we're going to see how this tough schedule helped us. And if we did win the conference and wound up with another 16 seed, I don't think our kids would be intimidated by anybody.

P.S. Reading over my post, I realize I missed two guys with great talent, Moorehead and Gfeller. I see Moorehead had ten rebounds against Wyoming, but I keep waiting for him to become more involved offensively. I like his shot. Gfeller, we know; like Klay Thompson, he can go off at any time. If either or both of these guys emerged in conference, it would be a bonanza for us.

Nicholas, Akoh and Anderson will help take this team to the next level. Even if 5700 isn't on board.

I would add Timmy Falls and Kelby Kramer to the above list. This is a program in a (mid) major upswing.

Kramer is going to need a redshirt year. Al bigs should have a redshirt year.

I agree Kramer may be in line for a redshirt year. Had he not been fighting an injury, I am pretty sure Anderson would have played right away. Also, do not forget 6' 7" Washington transfer, Donaven Dorsey!

Good game(s), Grizz. It's obvious that these two teams are very evenly matched. Good luck going forward and I hope we continue to schedule games in the future.

P.S. the refs were terrible both ways Saturday. Makes it tough when the refs turn it into a FT war.

Don't be a stranger. Good luck to the Pokes this season. By the way, a few here question those who suggest bad officiating, bad calls, etc.

The officiating comments just happened within the last few weeks, hardly old. Not nursing anything, fact is some here idiots and jerks. I am having fun with it. FYI, I have never posted that we lost because of officiating. :thumb:

Officials do too often play a much too big role in too many games. Landerpoke is 100% right, officials do make it tough, for fans, teams, coaches, and players when they get whistle happy (my terminology, not his).
