Griz vs. weber game thread.

IronMountain....I spent MANY nights at Adams FH back in the 70's and 80's so I know what GOOD Grizzly Basketball used to look like and it was fun. Even though the Griz won both games now this weekend the product just didn't look FUN, the crowd wasn't ever really into the game. Yes I was in an NBA town for many years...but when that local the...AKA Jailblazers....went south I didn't support them either. When management, whether it was Paul Whitsett running the Blazers into the ground or various Griz AD's dragging down Griz B-Ball, isn't doing their best to put a good product on the floor the fans need to let them know. So maybe if those of us who would love to see GOOD Griz B-Ball return to Missoula (along side with GOOD Football...yes I think we can support both) need to speak up and demand that the University work on improving the product.

WTF are you talking about. This Griz team is as playing as well as any that has stepped foot on that court in a long, long time. And yes, I was there for the Krysko years. And frankly this team would blast those teams. The athleticism differential is remarkable.

Seems to me that the current administration IS trying to find a way to get Butts in the seat. It's happening already, just somewhat slowly.

Glad to hear that I couldn't hear the crowd noise, after all, that is half the fun for the students and players...I disagree about Weber...this is not a good year for them and their schedule is weak..they are in first place but that means little. Montana really showed their potential last night and left little doubt who has the inside track to win the conference if they stay as focused and consistent as they seem to be now.. And, balanced scoring is great, but only if you stop the other team from scoring more....duh...And, on a contrary note, I fail to see how Selvig is getting so many kudos when he rarely tries for a rebound and sort of exists passively on the floor...Now, I confess, I have seen the Griz play live only once and he was more of a liability in spite of the win, but last night, I saw him make a couple of great passes and a couple of shots....the real talent here are the guards and Staudacher (sp?)....if they all perform, great....but next year is going to be something special in football and basketball.

Your delusional. I guess your right in a way we were 15-1 last year, so we are down in the fact we will end up 14-2 or maybe 13-3 with a tough game at PSU still on the docket. Our schedule has been tough with a win over Utah, close dog fights with the 2 teams tied for first place in the MWC in BYU (We were ahead with 6 minutes left with the #12 team in the country), and UNLV in their buildings. We should have beat Utah State (currently in 1st place in the WAC) in Ogden (lost by 4), and lost to Utah State again in Logan by the same margin #12 BYU did in Logan. (Pretty weak schedule) ;)
You don't know what the HELL your talking about. Maybe your stuck in 2006 if you think Montana has the inside track to win the conference this year. Make no mistake we will be Hosting the tourney, I hope you guys win your first round game and come down to Ogden, and if you guys keep winning we will play in the title game. That would be my wish. Of course I feel pretty good about playing you in front of 10,000-12,000 in the DEC. I would love to see another Lillard and Session matchup against AJ and Cherry for all the marbles.

The only way you get 10-12,000 is if UM fans account for 5000 of that. Your fans are as pathetic as our basketball fans, maybe worse because you have SLC and Ogden to pull in from. We have fans that travel hours to watch football and basketball. If I wasn't in Bozeman on Friday night for work I would have been in Missoula watching the Griz beat your silly liddle puddy tats!

Come on down to Ogden, when we will be the Host with the Most and you will see a real basketball arena. You guys are all exited you had 4,500 fans Friday night, when we pull that against NAIA Montana Tech exhibition.

We don't pull from SLC you silly hillbilly they have the Jazz, the U, Westminster,SLCC, and a huge BYU fanbase in Ogden and SLC to compete with, plus Utah State 40 minutes away and a lot of Ogdenites who are alum of USU. Montana has, well, Montana.

I know what SLC has because I have spent plenty of time in UTAH. And I have been to the Duh center. Really not that impressed. They modeled it after every other new venue that went up in the 90s. There was a lot of originality in that plan. Your right, Montana does have Montana, and that is a lot better than what is in Ogden. I have seen plenty of games that WSU had in their arena what UM pulls now, and that was with winning teams. I don't buy the attendance whatsoever. Find me attendance stats for the last five years and I might buy it. Not impressed though with 1.115 million people compared to 130,000. Wow! For such an impressive program still looks like a weak fanbase to me. Definitely not Griz nation. Outside of Ogden no one knows WSUs colors or mascot.

Well I for one was Very Impressed with Weber's Basketball Arena! Went there a few years back for the NCAA tourney & enjoyed the Venue! Tough to find beer back then though, maybe that has changed!

How many did you draw when the Griz played you down there? Oh yeah... 4490. Congrats...

How many did you actually have against MT Tech? 3383... but don't let facts get in the way of your little idiotic rant..

I have to disagree with you regarding this year's team "blasting" Krysko's teams, especially the team that went to the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament. That was a deep, consistent team. This year's team has some miles to travel before it will stack up with that team.

Lillard, I appreciate your passion for Weber State basketball. However, you too are delusional regarding their fan support. Montana and Weber State both have great fans. Too bad we both have nice venues that are not even close to being full on a consistent basis.

I am not here to knock your fans or where you play. It is unfortunate that BSC basketball is not well supported any longer. It would be interesting to go back the last 5 years in attendance. Montana and Weber State would be pretty close in regular season attendance, as would MSU.

So quit knocking our fans when your fanbase is near identical as ours. Admit it, outside of a small percentage of die hards, rest of the support is made of fairweathered fans. As much as I hate to say it or admit it, I think that is the reality of BSC basketball these days.

Bottom line we have the best player in the Big Sky by far, the best coach by far, the best arena by FAR oh and the best record 9-2 so far. We will be hosting, and we want UM down in Ogden again so try not to let the Bobkitties knock you out in the first round again, In order to do this you need to score more than 52 points against them. History shows there will be 8,000-10,000 for the 2nd round game, and 10,000+ for the title game. Our crowds are starting to return after Cravens ran the program into the ground. A couple more years under Rahe and the DEC will be rockin again.

Lillard is at best questionably the best player in the BSC, Rahe is probably the best coach, and yes you have the best arena (you are boasting about that?), and yes the best record. So sure you have some things going for you, but it definitely isn't the fanbase. I will give credit where it is due, just not to a troll! See you in the championship game!

Fair enough, but we are pulling better crowds so far this season, about 7,000 against the U. 9,200 against USU, 6,500 PSU on a Friday night, last year we closed the season against an awful SAC team with 7,500 so the crowds are returning, but we have 12,000 mostly cushioned seats and we want them all full. Both UM and WSU had an excellent recruiting year so here's to hoping it gets much better from here.

I respect the hell out of Weber State, and Rahe. I agree with you the fans should come back the next few years, as so should Montana's. Both teams have dynamic young players. The GRIZ have the best recruiting class thus far in the conference, and Weber State is not far behind.

As for fans coming back, you kind of proved my point in your statement. Both programs have many fairweathered fans.

As for hosting the BSC tourney. There are 3 teams I pull for to host. Montana, Montana State, and Weber State are the only fanbases that have enough support to make our championship look good on national tv. It is embarassing seeing the championship any other place in the conference. Even then, the trick is getting the host team to make it to it.

I look forward to rest of this season, and am praying for 3rd game with Weber State. I also am excited about the futures of both Montana and Weber State basketball. Here is to hoping you guys can keep Rahe. He is damn good coach, and I for one feel he will have better opportunities soon.

You have no idea how we had to hear about WAGrizz stadium on our forum from you guys leading up to the football game this fall. So ya I am boasting about our facilities. YOUR announcer called him the best player in the Sky Friday night. Only a soph. and nobody even close to him really.

We hope like hell we can keep Rahe too. It's been talked about for 3 years now, but there are a lot of reasons Rahe will stay. We think he will be around a while. The program still has leaps and bounds to grow and he is just getting started really.

Another reasoon to like Montana Basketball and Football. Our announcer, Mick Holien is legendary, and like any announcer favors his teams some, unlike a certain big time homer announcer UNC has, which goes overboard with homerism.

Right now, Lilliard is the best player in the conference. That is because of his consistency. Anthony Johnson is damn good too. It is fun to see both on their games. AJ feeds off Lillard, and of late AJ has found his game again. I also would say Will Cherry is making an impact as a FR, and next year will be right there with Lillard, but they are 2 different players as for playing styles. I would take Cherry as my defensive guard in the BSC. Watching Lillard and Cherry go at it the next 2 years will be fun.
