Griz vs UTA

Hasquet on All-Tournament Team. AJ is MVP. I don't see how Denver beat UTA. :o CET played a heck of a 2nd half in tonight's game. I don't think he ever came out in the 2nd half. AJ basically kept the Griz in it offensively during their early to mid 2nd half struggles.

UTA's Vereen scored 18 points in first half. Griz second half matchup zone defense limited him to only 9 points in second half which I consider one of the keys to the win. Vereen finished with 27 points.

What made UTA tough was they were quick and had quick hands. They often got to the ball quicker than the griz, and they slapped at the ball as much as they can and get away with it to create turnovers on the Griz. This created problems for Griz in first half, but not so much in second half. Griz turned the ball over 14 times for the whole game.
Griz outrebounded UTA in second half and finished with a 1 rebound advantage for the whole game.

The second half improvement in committing fewer turnovers and better rebounding, plus the play of AJ, were big factors in Griz winning this game, plus that matchup zone defense.

Some three point numbers – Ouch!
Jordan 1-4
Jack 1-3
Derek 0-2

But some nicer FT shooting!
Jordan 2-2
AJ 4-4
Kyle 3-3

A pretty good team effort.

Sharp nice effort, Jack is coming around, Stauds steady ..zero turnovers, ,AJ nice free throw shooting but 6 turnovers is HORRIBLE. Jordo a start to playing big like we were expecting. Qvale can do more.
Selving will settle down and hit those threes soon.

i liked all the charges they took...some they did not call but D is getting better.

Time to start jellling for the big sky...winning is a start.

Easy, WashGriz! We know that you love Stauds like a son. Great, but why always year after year hammer on the guards that are very very talented. Turnovers happen when a player sets aside his pride for the good of the team. Playing your butt off to win, isn't always the high percentage, low turnover column in the stat book. I'd rather have that type of player any day that one who stops shooting when the game is on the line because he missed a few and is worried about his percentage.

Turnovers happen because someone is trying to do too much or is careless with the ball. Your statement shows a real lack of basketball i.q.

But if the choice is between a player who tries to do too much and one who does too little, I'll take the former.

Sorry Grizzle that you misunderstood me. I agree with your technical definition of a turnover. Turnovers are to be expected and do happen more often when you have new guys learning a new system and going hard for a win. That's all. With more experience that will all take care of itself.
