Griz vs UCSB

Potomac Griz

Well-known member
Well, since its not on the radio, and the live feed on mtgriz.com is dead, we are stuck with refreshing espn.com and other sports sites trying to find a score. So far all I've found was that the Griz are behind 25 to 19 at halftime. Leading scorer so far for the Griz is Criswell with 4 points, leading scorer for UCSB is Cook with 10 points. Sounds like both teams must be playing pretty poor offense right now, or just awesome defense..

Update: 10:36 left in the 2nd half. Griz 30, UCSB 37.

I can kind of pick it up on 1180AM in Missoula. UCSB up 40-33 with about 7 minutes left. Easley has 10 to lead the Griz.

UCSB up 45-36 with 5 minutes left. Griz just gave up another 3 pointer.

So apparently the Griz football game has so many in mourning that they can't even broadcast the friggin' bball game. So I guess MontanaGrizzlies.com aren't the only pathetic ones.

Sometimes I hate the football program at Missoua.

Gauchos still up by 8 with 2:45 left.

Criswell got a steal and layup to put it within 4. Gauchos came back, up 49-43 with 1:51 left. I don't think the Griz have gotten a D-board in the last 2 or 3 minutes. They've probably given up about 6 O-boards in that time span.

Gauchos win 55-46 I believe. Couldn't quite hear it all, but I think that's what it was. Griz had the game to within 49-46, then had to start fouling. I couldn't really make out much of the play-by-play.

I want to emphasize my point about how much I dislike Grizzly football right now.

Thanks for the updates Montana Gym Rat. I just checked ESPN.com again and they have it as a final. Griz lose 55-46. Corey Easley was the leading scorer for the Griz with 12. Casey Cook was the leading scorer for UCSB with 14. Those are the only stats on espn.com right now. Hopefully they'll have a box score soon up there.

As for KGVO. They had a transmitter that was down or having some problems. I guess they couldn't get it fixed in time... As for MontanaGrizzlies.com I couldn't find any mention of the Griz basketball game other than on the schedule section. You were right, nothing on the front page, and nothing on the front page of the Men's basketball section. That's pretty pathetic.

Its kind of funny, people talk about bandwagon fans for the football team constantly...yet when the Griz BB team isn't winning as much as they had back in the late 80's and early early 90's, what happened to the Griz BB support & coverage in the papers, on TV, etc etc? Would it kill KPAX to occasionally broadcast a Griz Basketball game? Oh well.

One question Montana Gym Rat. ESPN.COM has the 'projected' starting lineup as being Easley, Dlouhy, Seyfert, Martin & Criswell. Did you hear Farr or Davis playing at all? I'm just kind of wondering if ESPN.COM was correct that Davis didn't start...and if he didn't start, did he even play?

Griz played like crap from what I heard. Only had 9 points with 8 minutes left in the first half. Shot 4-17 from the field in the first half. Had many many turnovers (although I never heard a number). Easley played a strong game (12 points I think) and Criswell had 6 or 8 (I think).

Maybe the coaches should consider giving the team a day off every once in awhile. I'm starting to think that's why this team has such a hard time coming out of the gates. I think the men last had a day off on Monday. They are going to practice tomorrow before the game against San Francisco on Monday. Between games in Missouri, they had a 3-hour practice. Not the way to get your team ready for a game, in my opinion.

I know Lamar played. He had a bunch of free throws. I think he went 4-6 from the line. I'm pretty sure Kamarr played, but the Gauchos also had a guy named Davis, so I might have been confusing names.

UCSB's website has the box score up, along with the starting lineup, etc.

Box Score

Matthews must still be really bothered by that broken nose. He didn't play that much. Anyway, the box score pretty much speaks for itself. The Griz shot 23.5% in the first half, 36% in the second half and 31% total. They commited 23 turnovers and had 9 assists.

Actually, when Matthews got in he committed 2 turnovers right away. It sounded like he was just out of it. Apparently he wasn't the only one.

Matthews: 2 turnovers in 7 minutes
Seyfert: 2 turnovers in 8 minutes
Strait: 3 tunrovers in 16 minutes
Davis: 4 turnovers in 21 minutes
Martin: 6 turnovers in 26 minutes

As a squad, these guys averaged a turnover every 55 seconds.
