Griz vs sdsu

Anyone close enough to the team, that can shed some light on Chavez's playing time. Is Wayne experimenting with others until BSC play starts? Will we see more of Chavez eventually? Is Wayne comfortable knowing what Chavez can do, therefore looking more into other players?

I know the players and coaches, but not to the point to ask about Chavez. I wonder this because most of Griznation root for Mike, especially with all he has overcome. He also is a spark most everytime he is out there.

Someone fill us in.

Do I hear an echo? :werd:

Its going to be frustrating for andrew if every team doubles him
and he doesn't get many touches. I think that he needs to move
off the low block a little more and shoot the jumper which he is capable of doing.

They'll have to stop doubling him if the perimeter game continues to improve as it did today.

This was easily the best game both Chase and Sharp have had. Gus seemed to get every rebound near him and I agree that he seems to be jumping higher. He is extremely strong and this has a lot to do with the rebounding position he gets. Sharp really amped up his scoring but needs to watch his fouls. Hasquet kick started the offense early on and it was a joy to watch from there. :thumb:

Sorry I don't see it. Chase and Sharp can only get some points against a horrible team that is very small. Chase was getting garbage rebounds-saved one from going out of bounds, not winning 50/50 battles. He's not jumping higher. The opponants were smaller. He is yet to prove he can compete against a legit D-1 front-line. Hopefully he got some confidence and should dominate again against MT Tech. That is just not proving he can do it at the D-1 level to me. He has looked awful against bigger, stronger guys, and I don't see that changing.

Your comment about Sharp flies in the face of what he accomplished last year. Chase was a JC All-American power forward. Typically, JC guys take a while to develop (see Virgil Matthews). I think Gus will improve significantly as the season progresses. He is admittedly undersized. However, I think his strength, quickness and skills will ultimately enable him to develop into a valuable player for the Griz. I saw signs of that progress against SDSU. :twocents:

I go to every griz home game. I watched Gus very thoroughly the last 3 home games. Fact is, he looked much more comfortable out there than ever before. He had more confidence. He was quicker, etc. IT was the 1st time this year he showed flashes of his hype. Not sure if something was wrong beyond adjustments or not. Rather it is mental or physical, I do not know. I do know though he appeared to be coming around nicely, with good signs to developing more.

The coaches also accomodated him more by not teaming him up with Strait as often. He was much more comfortable having the paint to himself offensively. Offensively his height is not as much of an issue one on one, being he creates space well. His height gets him in trouble with lots of traffic. I noticed that before the SDSU game, apparently the coaches did too. Do not be surprised we see Gus spell Andrew, and have him in with perimeter oriented players for the most part for now on.

As for Sharp, he has more issues than normal due to health being up and down with his Diabetes. I do not know the extents of it this year, but it sometimes effects his play dramatically. Wayne acknowledged the coaches having to monitor his play more closely this year than last due to that.

It was nice to see both contribute off the bench and see what either is capable of. As for Kyle, I admire him for the role model he is to younger kids, that might otherwise let diabetes or other health problems stop them from competing. Thank you Kyle for your inspiration you provide to everyone of all ages!!!! :thumb:
