Griz vs NO co

Re/MaxGriz said:
Someone lit a fire under the Griz, out scoring UNC 53-25 in the 2nd half!

15 points for Stait, 13 for Rundles, 16 for Hasquet and Tinkle acutally "found" Matt Martin and he scored 12.

If this is our last home game thanks to the seniors, Ellis, Mayes, Dlouhy and Chavez for some fun times. Hopefully they take care of business against ISU and get a home game for the opening round of the tourney.

The second half is the kind of team these guys can be if they want to play D and share the ball with each other. I hope this kick starts them. A win at ISU would give them momentum going into the tournament.

The Griz have been playing well in the 2nd half. If they can play TWO good halves in one game they'd be darn near unstoppable.

 for the best half of basketball all year :thumb: (No need to comment on the 1st half.) Pure dominance in the 2nd half. The Griz came out on fire on both ends of the court. When we got the lead back, most everyone in Dahlberg was just waiting for the let down, and let another team back in. Guess what? That did not happen, the GRIZ refused to give in, and continued to lay it on. Offense executed beyond expectations. Defense and rebounding were beyond comprehension. The players played together on both ends. Tinks opened up the playbook too. He ran a few very successful clear outs for Ellis that resulted in assists, fouls, or easy lay ins. If we did that more often, Ellis would average 8 pts and 8 assists easily. Not many BSC guards can handle him on the ball.

Martin played well offensively and defensively. For those that say he is lazy, BS, once again he busted his ass on defense. He does have heart.

Staudacher was the 1st half fire we needed. Offense was struggling badly. Staudacher got in there and put up 9 pts when we needed them. He ignited this team going into the locker room and the team fed off that in the 2nd half.

Dlouhy, looked like the Dlouhy of old. Played great Defense, did a little of everything. Most impressive though, not one time did he disrespect an official, hang his head, or whine. :thumb: One time he was close to getting on an official. He took a step or 2 toward the ref, then turned away from the official, and took a few deep breathes. I was proud of him for showing restraint. It used that on the court instead, and it made a world of difference for this team.

Ellis played nasty defense, created steals, and ran the team like a PG is supposed to do.

Rundles played well and contributed in many ways.

Mayes played great defense, rebounded, and hit some key shots. Very solid game from him.

Strait, was his usual self, got some more boards with 8, and he played much harder post defense.

Chavez had an off night offensively. I thought he was just too jacked.  for playing the best defense I have ever seen him play.

Vanderjagt got 4 minutes in finally. I watched him very closely. Every time a shot went up he got rebounding position with authority. He did okay in help defense. He looked a little out of sync though in man defense. He will be a very good BSC big man when he adds some beef, and gets enough minutes to learn.

Swift, Chase, Spurgettis, and Sharp all played hard.

Finally onto Hasquet. He came out in the 2nd half not caring about being injured. He took this game over on both ends. He flat out DOMINATED and OWNED the paint and boards. He was jumping for everything, He went to the boards everytime a shot went up, regardless of who was shooting from where. I think he scored all of his 16 in the 2nd half. I am guessing had 8 to 10 boards in the
2nd half too. Mr. Hasquet flat out wanted this game, he was not going to be denied. I know I am sounding like a broken record, but he is the leader of this team now, and will be for the next 2 years along with Rundles and Strait (1 more year). I got on Hasquet's bandwagon early. Not sure why, just had a good feeling about him. Honestly, can anyone here question his heart, leadership, and skills now? I am glad that the GRIZ took a chance on him. I was happy he became a GRIZ, but have to admit thought he at best would be a role player his 1st 2 years. This is one time I am glad to admit I was wrong! He is a much better player than anyone thought he would be. BTW he has 2 more years left. :thumb:

Great win tonight GRIZ, now go get ISU and give us one last home game.. If that haappens, I expect a sellout!

There were a few of us that stuck up for Hasquet from the start. I wonder where the naysayers are now that said he should be benched. Hasquet may have been the Griz best player down the stretch.

My point exactly Backer, very few here were behind Hasquet. He and Martin were getting the most Criticism the 1st ten games. Hasquet has more than stepped up this year. As for Martin, he plays his ass off, takes care of the ball, and has found 3 consistency, and tonight even took the ball to the hole a few times.

I am so proud of this team after this 2nd half. The points were nice, but defense and rebounding were unbelievable. I hope we see that rest of the year.

Now that is is over, it was worth the first half to see those bobcat bozos pee themselves on BN thinking the Griz were going to get beat. Of all people, Mslacat trying to make a big deal out of minutes played, saying there were huge off the court issues. He is such a homer he probably didn't know the Griz minutes looked different the 1st 10 minutes because Tinks chose to honor the 4 seniors by starting them. What a tool. He should be more concerned about his precious kitties trying to beat NAU and ISU. I think the cats may lose both, what a shame that would be.

I'm praying for a Griz-Cat home game in the first round. Get Dahlberg real rowdy and actually give the students a Griz-Cat game as most were away on break for the first matchup... anyone know what has to happen for this to go down?

Not going to happen. I worked out all the scenarios earlier today, and MSU will almost certainly play PSU in the first round. The only other possibility is EWU, which only happens if UM and MSU win out. Cat/Griz III wouldn't happen until the semifinals at the earliest, except in the highly unlikely event that Northern Colorado beats NAU and screws everything up.

That really blows... second round isn't nearly as good seeing as it's not played in MT. ah, it really sucks the students were away for Cat-Griz in the zoo. Hope it's not this way next year.

Given the complete idiocy of the schedule the BSC came up with this year, they'll probably put both games during winter break next year! I don't see what would be so hard about making the Cat/Griz games be the last game of each half of conference play for the two teams. I guess they're much more interested in making ISU play 4 games in 6 days at the end of the season than doing anything that makes the tiniest bit of sense!

You guys don't want anymore beatings by the Griz this year anyway. How many times do you need to get beat by the Griz in a year? Beaten in FB, Swept in VB, Swept in WBB (still), Swept in MBB (again), that adds up to Griz 7 kittens 0. :loser:

Ah, NOW I remember why I stopped posting over here. How stupid I was to expect that I could come here and provide the answer to a question without this crap in response within minutes of my post. I guess I will just go back to rocking back and forth over in the corner of my bedroom all night because (tear) your university athletics teams are better than mine this year. Congratulations on your obvious superiority over me and anyone else dumb enough to wear blue and gold these days.

Semi finals would be great. I'll take any matchup with the Cat's in the BSC tourney.

A lot of people on here are always quick to knock Jordan when they think the opportunity arises, but after games like this (and MANY others this year) I chuckle at how they never show up to share their "expertise" with us or at least nibble a little crow.

Martin proved again tonight that he needs to be playing more minutes. He was the spark that got us turned around in the first half. Hit 2 HUGE 3's then promptly went to the bench for some more coaching -- just can't figure that out. I will continue to defend Martin until the Griz put an better all-around option on the floor in his place. In my opinion, that still hasn't happened.

I agree on Jordan, although some of his detractors simply started in on someone else, the coach, etc. They are the type to never admit they were wrong. As for Martin, he is averaging 20 minutes and frankly, with Matt you know what you are going to get pretty ealry in games with him. If he hits his first couple shots, you usually get a decent game. If he misses a few, he lets it affect his game too much. Dlouhy is similar. I have to give both of them a lot of credit tonight. It was also interesting to hear Tinks talk about how Chavez came to his office to tell Tinks he was sorry for his attitude of late and how he was going to be there for his coaches and teammates the rest of the way. That takes a real man to do that. Mike didn't get any shots down tonight, but he worked hard on D trying to make a contribution anyway he could. 4500 Griz fans wasn't bad considering the play of late. The ones in attendance were treated to a Tale of Two Halves.

Go read the BS on BN dipshit, then lecture me punk. If you don't like it, get better teams. If I were a shittykitty I would be more worried about cleaning up my own house. Can't you go visit a former cat in jail or prison? :loser:

Just in case anyone was thinking so after last game... I wasn't trying to get on jordan and don't think he is bad at all. He's a competitor and was trying to rise to cam's level in the last game. These two, and Drew need to start gettin people goin in the locker room.

I wasn't referring to you just so you know. The people that were blatant about it know who they are, and haven't been seen much lately. typical

Interesting note about the game: a Griz hoops ad similar to the football ones is in the works.
