Griz vs. NAU

If I have to watch Manuel turn the ball over one more time I’m gonna lose it. Seriously take care of the damn ball.

They just talked in the pre-game how well he was taking care of the ball.

Man they jinxed him then! He has 4-5 costly TOs tonight. Always seems to happen at a terrible time. Then he always hits a big shot though too to try and make it even.

NAU only made 1-3 pointer in the 2nd half and evened out the FT's. Good halftime adjustments. Good win after a rough start.

Great, hard fought, come from behind win. The Griz were down by 10 at one point and down 9 on a couple occasions after they had fought back. Gutsy win.

Really solid win considering Griz had to play uphill so much. So many times you spend a lot of energy fighting back and when you finally take the lead you exhale to catch you breath and then the fatigue and heavy legs set in and the other team is able to grab the lead back. Also not only did we show a lot of grit to fight back we were able to close the game out effectively, which we have struggled to do on a few occasions...which is to be expected from a young team, but being able to close this one out shows a lot of growth! Also Pridgett was a MONSTER!! would like to have seen him get a little more help, need to get a few more open looks from 3 for Vasquez and Manuel. But I thought Samualson and Selcuck played very well, first time our "bigs" have helped us win I would say.

Good:
-Sayeed continuing his domination. Dude will not be denied.
-Sayeed's posterizing Tomahawk was beautiful.
-Timmy in the positive Turnover/Assist Ration tonight
-Samuelson providing some good minutes in the Post and showing some real nice moves. (Showed exactly what we had seen his freshman year. Really wish he had stayed for his entire career...)
-Kendall finding the bottom of the net again.

Bad:
-Slow starts and early turnovers
-NAU Player rolling his ankle near the end of the game. Looked painful!

Ugly:

Dunno, Fisty, maybe?

The post game interview with the coach was very informative. Mentioned they were prepped for NAU to run their O through a post who didn't play. Plus too many uncontested 3s in transition that they adjusted to at half. Still trying to find combinations with so many new guys logging a lot of PT. Learning how to finish games. Getting more shots where they want them to come from in the 2nd half.

It's going to be a learning process all year, sure nice having a stud like Sayeed when you need him.

Fight, claw, scratch and win..take it.
Absolutely!

A lot of turnovers and steals given up, but they hung in there. Still, they actually won the rebound battle (not by much, but a plus). According to the ESPN stats, the Griz were only 33% on treys, but shot 50% on field goals. Credit Pridget, who was 11 of 22 with his inside game, but the rest had to be shooting well also.

We know Sayers is a beast every night. I thought D C-H had some monster rebounds at crucial times. He fought hard inside. Vasquez has incredible hands. Manuel was clutch at the line when it counted. Bigger crowd than I expected. Student section is quieter than a nursing home!

I was at the game tonight and there should be way more positives than negatives in my opinion. Sayeed was Sayeed..what a hell of a player. Manuel had strong second half and he is money on free throws late in game. Timmy played well and within himself..played great defense. Samuelson is coming along and was solid inside. I think he is still working through that knee injury and he is going to be a huge contributor. Vasquez had 5 assists!... including one pretty back door to Sayeed at a key moment. But a big one no one has mentioned is that Owens and Carter-Hollinger both had 7 rebounds and were very aggressive. Things are looking up! Go Griz!
