Griz Vs. NAU

Thanks a bunch for the updates guys.

Wyoming- awesome site and it works for me. Thanks a bunch.

Going off the numbers, it looks like Selvig is having a great night. Is that a numbers mirage or is he really playing well?
His shot has been falling this game. Made some good passes, a couple mistakes -- also, probably could have shot a couple times when he was wide open and didn't -- Tinks then took a timeout, and looked like he was telling him to shoot if he was that wide open.

Griz up 70-49, 3:56 left. Cherry's added muscle and strength has allowed him to finish layups when he gets significant contact now. Dude is a man-child. He kind of reminds me of Gary Payton - great D, more of a slasher initially, then developed his mid and long range game.

Not only has Cherry improved his shooting, but he can stop, and start, or start, and stop on a dime. It seems like a few times every game he scores on those kind of moves. Against UNC, a defender lost his jock.

Hard to bitch about an 18 point win. There will be something to take from this game.
(1) Need to take care of the ball
(2) Focus for 40 minutes
(3) A little kick in the butt to younger guys on execution.

Biggest positive was Selvig looking very comfortable scoring the ball, and nice defense.

I was right, Tinkle just commented in post game, he is not happy, not playing GRIZ basketball. Tinkle also said we defended well.

Nice, we actually got a little post game on the regional level. :thumb:

some impressive bursts of energy, focus and tenacity....then come the periods of sloppy play, poor shot selection and passing decisions...

hard to really get too excited about playing a bottom feeder though, for a win against Weber we need a full 40 - maybe 40 plus of the energy and focus to win.

...bottom line, another win is another win, now to get the Cats and on to a winning the host role for tournament.

The Griz often play to the level of the competition...this team is good. Just how good, we will see on Tuesday.

Can we somehow change Salvidar's name for broadcasts? Every time I hear his last name, I think
"Salad Bar". Call it petty, but it annoys me.
Hey we were calling him salad bar to his face... I think it's an honorary name now

I hope you round up every student you can for the last 2 games, then hopefully the tournament. No excuses for students not showing up in these last 2 games. It is the Cats, and a fight for the right to host, providing the GRIZ take care of the Cats. I honestly cannot think of 2 better games to close the regular season out with.

Students, get your asses to the games!!!!! :thumb: :thumb:

Selvig played a good all around game. He usually has a good all around game. This time he had the stats to go with his good play. As stated, he could and should have shot more--about 5 more times. He was credited with a bunch of turnovers, but I don't think he had that many. Tinkle said the same thing in the post-game interview.

The Griz wouldn't be as good without Selvig. Those posters who have criticized Selvig significantly were and are just plain wrong.

You are so correct about Selvig being open with time and space. It was ridiculous. The Griz turned down wide-open shot after wide-open shot while NAU rarely had a good look all night. It was complete domination more than the score showed. I never thought NAU could look so pathetic. Their coach is 70 fricking years old. He is bald and looks more 80. He seems like a genuine guy and tried to encourage his troops, but I missed Andras' antics, and there is no way this guy is the long-term answer. I hope they find somebody to return them to respectability or at least a nutjob that can entertain. #20 and #40 showed some life, but the rest looked awful. I can't believe #1 is their leading scorer. He, literally, couldn't get a shot off unblocked until late in the game when he desperately tried to garbage-game some cheap points. Cherry absolutely OWNED that guy. NAU's first 6 possessions resulted in exactly one shot that made it up to basket. They had 3 turnovers and 2 blocked shots and one made basket.

Our big guys were more open as the game went on, because NAU went to a triangle and 2 defense, with 2 guards matching up with Cherry and Jamar in man coverage, and the other 3 playing a triangle zone.

Zirg - Dave Brown is the interim coach this season. There's no plans by him or administration for anything more than that. Here's a mention of it on a Griz blog. http://www.grizbasketball.com/?p=418" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

One senior. Coach Adras' "resignation". 10 players on the roster this year who saw no court time w/ NAU last year (either as transfers, red-shirts, freshmen). One post player quitting the team pre-season. ANother post player getting kicked off the team then reinstated but not playing. Realizing there was no more Cameron Jones waiting in the wings. Inexperience, inexperience and more inexperience.

Very little out there re: NAU's search for a coach yet. Jon put up an article on http://www.bigskybball.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; earlier this week and I found this article link below as well. Russ Pennell, former U of Arizona interim coach, and current Grand Canyon U. coach would provide contacts in-state. There is some talent present (last night was one of the worst games James Douglas has had...a large portion of that credit goes to the Griz team defense) and all hope is not lost with so much youth. But I don't see any quick, easy fixes to this.

This may be understated but the Griz looked pretty good last night. Athleticism at guard/wing is impressive. I expect UM will hold court vs. MSU this weekend and the Weber game will be for all the marbles. Call me nuts but this may be the first year ever that two Big Sky Conference teams legitimately deserve at least a thought to both make the NCAAs. Never gonna happen but one can only dream.

Enjoy the moment, Griz hoops fans.

Agreed. If 4 of us can drive over from Great Falls in possibly crappy weather there's not many excuses for the locals.
