EWU had a pitiful defense last year and their QB play was not up to standard. The Griz were improving and EWU regressing when they played and were able to capitalize on those EWU weaknesses.

It was certainly up to standard in the six games in a row they won before that. And I haven't seen anything to demonstrates that their defense is significantly improved this year.
Big sky defenses have a way of making QBs look really good.

not all qb's... :(

That is funny, and heartwarming too..

The Eagles offense is incredible this year, especially in the passing game. They are constantly putting up 500 to 600 yards and a ton of points. This includes agzinst NDSU.

My biggest area of concern for our Griz this year is the passing defense. Yes we have a bunch of FBS corners and safeties but so far a lot of receivers have been open and there have been plenty of breakdowns in coverage. I feel like the Griz have not been exposed here because we haven't really played a pass happy team yet. Defending the run is where we definitely have strength, but I get worried anytime I see the QB drop back to pass.

The Sacramento State QB has already had a couple of games over 300 yards passing so it should be a good test to see where we are at. If we can totally dominate that and shut down that passing game then I will feel much better.

Hahahaha! Tom Glasgow was on our flight home and I asked him how the telecast went. He said he got tired of saying, "Touchdown Montana".

For me:

Emotionally, the Cat-Griz game is always The Game each year because of bragging rights.

Schematically, the Eag-Griz game is always The Game each year. Although with Eastern's strong record against the Griz, the emotion also has crept in over the years.

I think whichever team wins the WR-DB matchups will win the game. For the Griz, can our DBs cover long enough for the pressure to affect Gubrud's deliveries? For the Eags, can they effectively contain the Griz short passing (nee running) game without allowing long ball effectiveness with Homan/Curran/Calhoun?

One final thought...can we please stop referring to the "Inferno" and use the more proper "Unsanitary Napkin"?

As usual, I'm really looking forward to this game. Last year was brutal as an EWU alum/fan, but it was somewhat of a wake up call (or beating) at the hands of the Griz. It was several years of frustration coming out for Montana against an extremely hapless EWU team on both offense and defense for most of the second half of the season last year. West was just not a starting QB for a top level Big Sky program and the D was simply pathetic. This year will be much different and although this is game is a toss up, EWU will be ready to play and I have no doubt that UM will be eagerly looking for their first win in Cheney since 2008.

I'm sure a lot of you will be headed over, so I hope you enjoy yourselves and have a great time...with hopefully an EWU victory of course.

One thing I don't like about playing EWU is how they can score from anywhere on the field. I also hate watching their QB drop back and know when he lets it go someone will catch it. I'm always yelling at tv how the hell did he catch that? where did he come from? How did they just convert 3 and 31? Much respect to eagles offense.

Back in the VA days, I can't count the number of times I thought to myself "Alright, we have them 3rd and long, let's just contain and get the ball back." then next thing you know Kupp is catching a 30 yard pass for a 1st down :(

Agreed, it'll be a heck of a game like it usuallyis. I'm looking forward to attending again!

You should definitely post more over here. You're one of the better EWU posters! :thumb:
