My question is what happened last year? Montana mauled EWU and really shut down the high flying eagles offense. Was it injuries? Was it the defensive gameplan? This years game has most fans very nervous and many think this could be a potential loss. Any chance the Griz can repeat last years performance.
Will the Griz ever win on the inferno??lol
Eastern wasn't very good last year and it began to show late in the season. Eastern didn't beat a good team last year and they started the year 6-2 because they played 6 really bad big sky teams last year before facing NAU/UM/PSU. When they faced the better teams, it showed. Eastern completely changed defensive schemes last year and started a ton of freshman, so it was a disaster in terms of defense for a large part of the year. This year, those younger kids have had a year in the system, and although Eastern is still giving up points, they are much better defensively.
On offense, last year we had Cooper Kupp, and to an extent Bourne and that was it. Hill went down for the season in game 1, West was a good QB but had ZERO mobility, and we were really limited and that was disguised by both our easy schedule and Cooper Kupp. This year on Offense, its a completely different story. Eastern has a mobile QB who opens up a lot more options than eastern has had in a long time. Kupp is playing well, but Hill gives Eastern speed in the slot (he has more TD's than Kupp this year), and Bourne is one of the best WR's in the big sky on the other side. We also start a true freshman running back who has a ton of speed, something Eastern hasn't had in years past. Add all this to the biggest piece, Easterns new offensive coordinator, and Eastern is a much, much different team than last year. Eastern's offense is as good as I've seen, and that includes the VA and Taiwan Jones years. The D gives up points, but makes great adjustments and the 2nd half numbers compared to the first half are much different.
The Griz will see a much different team in Cheney this year than they faced in Missoula last year.
