Griz vs. Coastal Carolina

I would like to think that we win this game wherever it's played. If not, we don't have any hope next week. The last few weeks you can see the Griz slowly coming together, starting to gel at the right time. They are very explosive on offensive, don't believe from what I watched, that they are used to the physical hard hitting defense that we have.

Griz win

South Conference Teams DIE in Washington Grizzly. End of story.

App games were close others not remotely.

Wofford? Most gut wrenching loss I have ever attended. That Griz team could have won it all.......

oops was out of the country for that one forgot about it.

Odds are still on our side though or should I say the weather.

I honestly believe that was one of the best, if not the best Griz teams we've ever had... and yes I'm counting the 90's teams

The weather coupled with the stadium is going to be a factor in the game. Athletic teams lose a step or two when they can't hear the snap count (you are watching the ball like the defense) and they can't feel their fingers or toes. I can only think of two teams that have won games in Missoula during the playoffs that come from warm weather climates Cal Poly in 05 and Wofford in 07.

Maybe Coastal Carolina's coaches are going to be teaching a crash course on how to run the triple option offense.

We do have a QB from Wofford who ran the triple option :)

Travel nor weather won't kill CCU. Brock F'ing Coyle will.

This!

Looking forward to Coyle, and our entire defense, laying some love on these guys. For a much vaunted defense Bethune-Cookman's didn't look like much today.

If anyone in their right mind thought BCU actually had the #2 defense in the FCS, they need to get their head examined. Same thing with SC State, eventhough I give them a little more credibility.

I posted this on our board earlier this week:

We played the #1, #6 and #9 defenses in the nation in total defense, and, on average (if my math is right) those three teams allowed 153 yards more against us than they averaged for the regular season.

On scoring defense, we played the #2, #7, and #31 defenses and on average they allowed 23 points more to us than they averaged for the regular season.

On rushing defense, we played the #1, #18, and #21 and on average they allowed 148 yards more to us than they averaged for the regular season.

I just don't believe B-CU's defense is that good. Looking at their Sagarin SOS, they are 224th and one of their losses was to a 3-9 Norfolk State team that lost to Hampton by 10.

Interesting stats bodoyle. Did not have the opportunity to watch the game yesterday. I am interested to know your opinion about team speed? Especially at the skill positions and also the size of your oline? I don't care how cold it is outside or how loud the crowd noise is - does not effect speed.

Copper: Overall we have pretty good speed. Our main RB, Taliferro is a big guy but he has surprising speed. Our 2nd RB, Henderson has speed to burn and is slippery when trying to tackle. At WR, from what I've seen this year, Mastromatteo's speed seems to surprise some teams and he's hard to tackle for a small guy. Hazel, Bennett and Mapp are all quick. Hazel is probably the fastest of the group.

Our OL is pretty big overall, and I believe all 5 have started every game this year: Chad Hamilton (LT) 6'3" 305lb JR, Jamey Cheatwood (LG) 6'5" 330lb SR, Kevin Hart (C) 6'2" 260lb JR, Mo Ashley (RG) 6'4" 320lb JR and Drew Herring (RT) 6'3" 310lb SR

I've watched the ccu cookman game a couple of times. They're best player on offense is #15 at running back. I would guess Delaney will put emphasis on stopping him. They have a slot receiver that looks like Cam Warren. Other than that meh. They're offense is ok but I really don't think our front seven will surrender a lot to these guys on the ground. Jordy will dismantle they're defense. Overall team speed easily to Montana. Put it this way if we lose to these guys I couldn't imagine what ndsu would have done to us. :ugeek:
Go Griz!!

#15 is our Payton candidate Lorenzo Taliferro. He is a solid RB and quicker than people give him credit for. It's hard to get a handle on the team just off the BCU game. It's hard to have a long drive against their #2 def.....sorry I couldn't type it w/o laughing. You can go to BigSouthSports.com and watch old games from earlier in the year for free.

Finally a fan of Coastal C. on here to chat with. Are you planning on making the trip out to Montana?

Hi, Griz fans!

I've already posted on the board in the "Coastal Carolina vs BCU attendance" thread however I assume because of the title of the thread and the game being over not many of you might have viewed my post so, I'll copy and paste one of my messages from that thread here.

And I've posted some of our highlights from games this year below that.

They are going to say that they played South Carolina so they noise at Wa-Griz won't bother them, but they lost 70-10. Wa-Griz is not as loud as it used to be during the regular season, but we all know how loud it can get during playoffs.

Ugh! I think both fan bases overlook elements of the opposing teams. I think we may down play the cold weather more then we should, and I think you all down play the fact that we've played in an hostile environment with noise before. App State (last year), Liberty (Rivalry Game), and South Carolina (this year).

Uc Davis and Northen Colorado can outdraw that. I'm surprised they won a bid to host

Yes, we had a small crowd for our playoff game! You have to realize there is more stuff to do in the Conway/Myrtle Beach area even during this cool time of the year then there is in Missoula, Montana. Not downing Montana that's just the truth. You guys and Montana State ARE the big boys in that state! We compete with Clemson & So. Car for views/spectators on a weekly basis. And if you want to add to that, we have; Furman, Wofford, SC State, The Citadel, Charleston Southern, and Presbyterian to contend with as well (maybe not so much but, you get the idea).

Our students were all on break this week and not to mention I we've only had football for 11 years now. So, you can talk about our stadium (which is rather nice), our fan base (which is rather young & new) and our team (which is rather successful for program only 11 years old)

The more threads I see about Coastal on this board the more I go :x because you have no idea about our school and our team. Hopefully us Coastal fans can educate you and hopefully you can educate us about your Griz.

Till Saturday Ladies and Gentleman.

If a friend can hook me up with transportation, yes. I purposely took Thurs and Fri off this week to travel.

Any friend who can arrange for your tranportation into Missoula is a friend indeed!

I will definitely try to, but it's up to my friend (if I get to go) and what he wants to do.

Just some interesting numbers about the travel from CCU's local writer:

http://thesunnews.typepad.com/coastal_carolina/2013/12/new-territory-for-chanticleers.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

I am sure yo all remember the lost you grizzlys took from the Wofford Terriers. How much trouble you all had with their triple option. guess what? about five weeks ago woffords starting QB transferred to coastal. So keep that in mind. We do have that to pull out of our back pockets if need be. TTTRRRIIIPPPLLLEEE option baby! with much higher rated receivers and backs then what wofford had.

To many things going against CCU. Travel, weather, environment, elevation, JJ and a hungry GRIZ team. Brock Coyle. GRIZ win by 14+.

Did you learn your grammar, spelling and punctuation at CCU or EWU?
