Griz vs. Coastal Carolina

Let's not forget the playoff game against U of Mass. back in 06. A lot of egriz posters were making it sound as though Umass might as well stay home as they would not be able to handle a Montana winter day let alone a Night game. Well, "Surprise"!!! Weather is not a factor especially in a playoff game where adrenalin rushes and a well laid out game plan trumps mother nature.

I know you guys have been talking about the weather being a factor since CCU is from the South, but just an FYI, we do have a total of 37 players from "up North". And by up North, I am referring to anything from Virginia and North.

This may be true...but cold in the Appalachians is nowhere close to cold in the rockies...its a cold, dry air....20 in the Apps feels like 40 in the Rockies

I think you may have it backwards. Humid cold feels much colder than dry. I would much rather be out in 10 degrees, dry and sunny than 33 degrees and raining.

This...I have experienced cold in Boston and it is 180* different than Montana cold. Humid cold goes right through you where our cold just bites you. It is not difficult when you are playing, the difficulty is when you come off the field and have to sit in the cold for 4 minutes.

No way BadLands can be wrong, he is always spot on in his own mind...

Oh nice, you had to bring that game up!

I don't care about the weather. You are in the playoffs. If you can't get pumped up and tune out the weather then you don't belong. I am sure Coastal Carolina will come ready to play. I am more concerned with a slow start by our team coming off a bye week and an emotional cat/griz week. I am also concerned by the poor showing by our conference today. That makes me think we may have a weaker conference than we thought could really have our hands full. Regardless, I will be there being both loud and cold.

Enough about the weather... the travel will kill CC

Travel nor weather won't kill CCU. Brock F'ing Coyle will.

This!

Looking forward to Coyle, and our entire defense, laying some love on these guys. For a much vaunted defense Bethune-Cookman's didn't look like much today.

UMass and Coastal Carolina are two different beasts buddy.

Travel. Time zones. Elevation. Noise. Temperature (mainly while standing on the sidelines).

These factors will be significant.

If we were traveling to Myrtle Beach on Sept. 7. I would give them the same advantage for temperature and humidity.

Honestly, with the exception of Wofford in that 1st round game, all of the southern teams have lost bad at WGS in December, really, really bad. The Griz will be amped up and so will the NEZ!

there is no chance in hell all those teams would be favored against coastal. Sure their "schedule was easy" but they're better than anyone we've beat with MAYBE an exception for MSU. The amount of disrespect is waaaay too high.

We are confident, no way this team is better then anyone we beat except MSU. We win going away after a slow, week off, start.

I tried understanding the first sentence but I just can't. Are you saying they are better than people we beat or no o.O.

Bottom line is we're better than they are and we'll beat them.

Yeah, that's what I meant. I re-read it again and said "what the heck did I just say?"

So.... to say it otherwise.
We beat them better then them could beat them others we dun beat...... Yeah.

I am not feeling that confident about this match-up. Weather and travel might play a minor role but I am not sold on those factors trumping the game-plan execution and there has been way too many poorly executed quarters and halves of football played by the Griz this season to make me confidently say that we will win this game with ease like some of the other posters.

We just need to get ourselves a 400# running back, never again do we fail at 4th and 1.

The UMass game was cold, probably because it was a night game, but it reminded me of the '95 playoffs. I spent 3 winters in NE humid cold, but that was nothing compared to Hi-Line cold. Here's hoping for an arctic blast with a stiff wind, and we'll see how a game at Stony Brook compares. I like our chances.

I love all this "20 degrees isn't cold" crap. Maybe for Montanans it isn't but for a bunch of guys acclimated to 65 degree avg temp 20 is miserable. When I left the desert in May of 2006 it was 122 degrees. When I hit the ground at Sea-Tac 18 hours later it was exactly half of that, 61 degrees. I froze my ass off until August when I finally reaclimated. So don't tell me those boys from ccu are going to feel the same way about 20 degrees as a bunch of Montana boys who have been living and practicing in it.

I'm sure weather, stadium, travel are all factors; but I sure as hell hope we aren't counting on any of the above. Last week gave me hope that, like other years, Griz are peaking at just the right time. Peak may not be high enough for some, but I think we're going to see best Griz of the year. Go Griz!

The UMass game was just f'ing cold no matter how you slice it. CC will undoubtedly struggle with the cold. So will we. It's not like the Griz have been playing in the snow all fall. We had one cold game.

They have a legitimate QB who can throw and is pretty consistent. Most of their offense seemed to hinge on their passing game. They put up 48 points on the so-called second best defense in the FCS. Their QB was13-18 for 256 yards and 4 TDs today. Griz will have to play well and have a solid defense to get the W. I don't think the cold will be a HUGE factor as its supposed to be 20 degrees and sunny. If it was colder I'd buy into the weather theory more. Go Griz!

The National Weather Service is calling for a high of 11 degrees, that would be at game's end, probably around 5 to start so I'd guess it might be a factor for both teams but we are more familiar with this weather. That said the weather never won a football game. As an aside given the sucky conference BC played in calling them the second best D in the FCS is laughable.

It's going to be both cold and loud and southern teams have not fared well here but that means jack squat. If we execute and don't turn the ball over we move on, just like every other team left in the playoffs. :thumb:
