Griz vs. Coastal Carolina

Based on what we have experienced this year I believe we ignore any opponent at our peril...I recall wofford game all too well

Like other posters I think we should win this but I see a 7-9 point difference

Go grizzlies

Are you guys forgetting this is the playoffs? Cc is a more competent team than any team we've beaten in the last couple years. Of course we have the weather but to question whether they'll even give us a game is just delusional. Obviously they'll give us a game. I still think well win but it'll be a 1 score game.

whatever helps you sleep at night

I used to buy into the theory that Southern teams would not fare well in the cold. Haven't seen much evidence the temperature really matters. Perhaps in extreme temperatures, but the bigger factor to me is the crowd. It's predictable: Their coach will say to a reporter that they have heard this is a loud venue, but they are going to practice with loud music blaring and doesn't expect his team to be affected. Then in the post-game interview there will be some comment about how loud the crowd was and it affected their ability to play their game. Did you see the stadium at Coastal Carolina in today's game? If attendance topped 5,000 I'd be surprised.

We had a hard time with Wofford because we never played the Triple Option that much, and their damned chop blocks which kept taking out our guys. I do remember they were really a determined, well coached and disciplined team, but we did come back and if Carpenter would have hit the field goal with time expiring, Wofford would have been just another southern team to have died at Wa Griz.

".....Can CC give us a game?"

Yanno, I think they actually could. I'm hoping for the ball to be frozen hard like a rock and we get some good turnovers.

Well, it's true that anything can happen each game but having seen their Charleston Southern and BC games, Coastal has inflated stats and an inflated record due to playing weak opponents. I disagree with them being more competent than the teams the Griz have beaten even this year. MSU, South Dakota, Sac State, Cal Poly, and Portland State would all be favored over Coastal. Even UC Davis, Weber State, and a down App State would be toss-up games for Coastal.

This should be similar to the Griz's 2011 playoff game against UNI. They'll come out and compete for about a quarter and then once they continue to get stuffed, they will realize they are overmatched and it will start snowballing from there. Probably end up being around 41-14 in the Griz's favor.

there is no chance in hell all those teams would be favored against coastal. Sure their "schedule was easy" but they're better than anyone we've beat with MAYBE an exception for MSU. The amount of disrespect is waaaay too high.

They seem to be a pretty quick team. Run a good "bubble" screen. They also seemed to protect their qb well. They looked better than what I was expecting.

This.
I watched most of the game. Their offense was balanced though with an emphasis on passing. Most of their pass plays were wide open receivers streaking downfield. Can't say if that was superior scheming or if it was just all B-C coverage errors. Expect these guys will keep our defense busy and score some point on our Griz.

Their defense did blitz frequently and typically with success. What is alarming about that is the B-C QB was a very fast guy. He wasn't a strict pocket passer yet the blitzes often caught him for losses. Expect JJ will react better to the pressure but we better have someone in the backfield to pick up their linebackers. The blitzes typically came right through the line so a dump off pass to a tight end could work too. Otherwise, because Bethune Cookman's offense is so different than ours, it's hard to say how well the Coastal defense will do against the Grizzly offense.

Our receivers will need to be sharp so our running game can be effective. I see why Coastal Carolina is a high scoring team. Our best game plan is putting together drives and keeping the ball in our hands. This will be a good match up.
I expect Montana will win this one but have no illusions of an easy win. :ugeek:

This will not be an easy win but a doable win.
CC played at Stony Brook last year in the second round and it was cold there, but a different cold then we get, so they will be "used to the cold"
According to Accuweather.com it is supposed to snow between Sunday and Tuesday 6-10 inches and on Friday only be 7 degrees but Saturday up to 22 degrees.

The O line for BC seemed to be very porous at best.
This should really be a good game.

20 degrees in the rockies..is much different than 70 degrees on the east coast...even though 20 feels good to us...it doesn't to someone from Carolina.

We are confident, no way this team is better then anyone we beat except MSU. We win going away after a slow, week off, start.

I tried understanding the first sentence but I just can't. Are you saying they are better than people we beat or no o.O.

Bottom line is we're better than they are and we'll beat them.

I know you guys have been talking about the weather being a factor since CCU is from the South, but just an FYI, we do have a total of 37 players from "up North". And by up North, I am referring to anything from Virginia and North.

That can't be...

This may be true...but cold in the Appalachians is nowhere close to cold in the rockies...its a cold, dry air....20 in the Apps feels like 40 in the Rockies

You will hear a lot about the weather and the stadium and what big factors they will be. It really all depends on your team. We have seen good Southern teams completely implode in Missoula in December, while others have played us pretty close. It will for sure be the most challenging place CCU has played all year.

I think you may have it backwards. Humid cold feels much colder than dry. I would much rather be out in 10 degrees, dry and sunny than 33 degrees and raining.

I think when you see CC in Missoula you're going to learn that their skill players withe the exception of their RB, are a little light and that their big uglies are more flabby than what you normally see in northern FCS teams.

No..Ive been in the Apps when its 25 degrees...and its not bad at all...almost sweatshirt weather...the rockies at 25..not so fun...and the wind blows right through you. Summer humid..ya that sucks..but winter and humid..not to bad...think of Missoula compared to say Glendive or Glasgow...20 degrees is much much different.
