Griz versus Cats Running Game

Every team holds on pretty much every play. The only thing separating teams that get called from teams that don't is situation, how good they are at disguising it, and luck.

It's just so wild to me that we even care about MSU's running game vs. our own when the team offensive philosophies are so different.

Where were the "Griz versus Cal Poly Running Game" threads back when they were running the triple option? People weren't crying about the Griz copying that. It's pretty good at getting rushing stats! They led the conference every year!

The same people crying about MSU and their rushing offense were crying about EWU and their unstoppable passing offense just a few years ago and how "we need to do what they do, or we'll be behind forever!"

Most here don't care, however 3rd and short is nervous about his cats and angry Hauck is having success so he is knit picking o-lineman.

I just state facts, dude. Don't read them if you can't understand them. The Griz primary offensive blocking scheme is a zone-blocking concept. Germer told me that over a beer several years ago.

Football 101 for dummies:

a) The likelihood of a penalty for holding on any play increases with the length of the play. Pass plays take longer to develop in general, and when QB's hold the ball that also increases the odds of a holding penalty, not just in the amount of time of the play, but because of out of pocket maneuvers by the QB . What you are seeing is what you would expect in penalties from a balanced offense versus a run heavy offense.

b) Holding is holding whether or not it is called. Citing total number of penalties called as evidence of holding is apples to oranges.

Want to try and guess the reason they didn't analyze holding calls on running plays????

Trying to be impartial here. I don’t think he was deflecting. He made some pretty salient points in that post. Griz have more offensive holding calls this year. Really kind of expect that given their offensive scheme and they were trying to figure out who was going to be the QB. They actually still may be trying to figure that out. You also have to factor in the refs and it really is not a true comparison. The sample size is pretty small as well after 8 games. Sorry, I get the point you were trying to make. Just not sure how valid it is at this juncture.
