Left the field bc they lost, they usually stay out there.

Brint,

Isn't up to the head coach whether they stay out there or not? Didn't Bobby make them go into the locker room right after the game and then they would come back out? I can't remember..geesh the Hauck regime seems like a decade ago already.

I wonder if some wil think this thread is "calling out" the whole team.

If my comments sound like I'm "calling out" the whole team, I apologize and mean no offense. I tend to look at this as a bigger picture, if you will, and understand there are multiple artists contributing to the UM canvas. There are so many dynamics to the situation. We are a spoiled fan base. But one can probably say that it has been good for everyone - the program to players to coaches to fans to families. It may be safe to say that this has contributed to the Griz success. Different people control different decision making processes - and have reasons for the way things run.. My posts are just opinion

Sorry probably wasn't clear. I wasn't accusing you of calling out the whole team. Rather was wondering when those posters that throw that accusation around would show up. Post on! :thumb:

No football team sings the fight song after a loss.

Notre Dame does. I went to Michigan State vs. ND game in South Bend about 5 years ago or so. ND loss in a really tough close game. Then I stood there and watched them sing the fight song after the loss to the students section.

Not trying to start sh*t here, but I stood there and watched the Cats sing the fight some on Sat. after the loss to EWU>

quite a few teams will sing their song win or lose....

that said, silly topic. nothing more than fans looking for somewhere to send their frustrations.

as someone mentioned, i don't think you sing the song after a loss and that is fine. just easier to notice when it happens twice in a row for the first time ever...

Home losses have been so rare over the years that most don't remember what happens after a loss. The Griz have not stayed to sing the fight song after a loss. Most, if not all, of the players head straight back to the locker room after a loss.

Personally, I wish that they would still do the fight song and stay on the field for autographs. I know that losses are tough, but the enthusiasm of little kids can lift spirits. The fans that come onto the field after the game are some of their most ardent supporters.

Go Griz!

Conversely, I was a bit disappointed at the SUU game to see a number of Griz fans exiting the stadium with more than two minutes left on the game clock. I agree that the team should stay and talk with fans after either a win or loss (good lesson for the kids - have pride and show kindness regardless of a loss), but I used to take pride in the fact that "Griz fans never leave". It was clear we were not going to win the game, but that's not the point. Out of loyalty and respect, fans should stay till the end and applaud their team's efforts.

Most do, actually.

I believe Montana has NEVER did the fight song after a lose. And I would believe that most don't maybe MSU did because the would have forgotten the words in years past so that just became a tradition. But I believe that most do not. Maybe some but most don't.

Go Griz!

Singing the song is essentially a thank you to the fans for yelling themselves hoarse, spending money on tickets, gas, hotel, food...etc. to come and support the team. Seems strange not to say thanks if they lose.

As much as it feels like it is, winning is not everything otherwise everyone should be happy when it is "win at all costs". Obviously support for that sentiment is a thing of the past -- or at least RE and whole lot of other people want it to be. So if winning isn't everything then losing with grace needs to be valued -- no not enjoyed or rejoiced. If the program is to rise above and become something more then the traditions that helped the Griz in the past have to be maintained even in the down times otherwise the people in the program will look to some as a bunch of sore losers. The players need to know the fans support them even when the game turns out badly and the fans need to know the players are in it for the long haul.

Hmmmmm.... so the University lets people on the field to do what?? I'll take a wild guess and say it's to mingle with the coaches and players. Sounds like a chicken or the egg debate to me. Maybe there should be a rule instituted that fans can ONLY go on the field after we win, since we wouldn't want our fans to pat our guys on the back and tell them "Win or lose, thanks for the effort and we'll be here next game to yell for you just as loud as we did today."

Makes perfect sense to me guys.

I'm pretty sure fans aren't supposed to be allowed on the field until the other team is off. That's been the case when the Griz win.
So if the visitors win, isn't it only fair that the Griz get off the field so the fans of the winning team can come onto the field to join the victors?

Link to that rule?

I stand corrected. Thank you.
