Jordan Gregory missing the front end of the 1 and 1 may just be the momentum gainer BBQ-U needs...

Gregory's and Jamar's misses of the front ends changed the complexion of the game at the end. Make those and we would have had a chance. Crucial. At least we played well, but I'm sure that is little consolation to the team at this point.

Griz play a solid game, perhaps their best of the conference season. Evenly against WSU, with three rimshot misses that were "oh so close," & could have made it a different game.

I'm hoping this game will pay dividends down the road. We're seeing the emergence of a team that will need to win the rest of the way with an improvised perimeter game.

This is one of those rare losses that can be a valuable stepping point for progress down the road.

We are crippled (so to speak) at at the five. But Mr. Tinkle & his coaches are -- game by game -- learning how to get their team compensate for that huge hole in the paint (offense & defense).

Weisner had his best game as a Griz & if he can continue this progress, I feel good about how this team can improve over the remainder of the year.

I see you still have a bag of sand in your vagina...And since you know more than anyone else, I don't see why I should post here anymore in basketball threads.

I could never hope to contribute a 1/100,000th of what you bring to the table with your vast knowledge of basketball. I will try to post during football season, provided you don't also know more than anyone ever....if that is the case, I will commit Seppuku....in shame

I see and agree with your points. I'm good either way on the moral victory. Tinkle just said on the radio that he doesn't believe in moral victories, and said he had just told the team that they grew up on this road trip. He also said he's starting to see some leadership emerge.

Regardless: There's a lot of proof in the world of sports that a loss can make a team better. I'll use the Seattle Seahawks' loss to the SF 49ers, in conf. play this year, as an example (since numerous Hawks players said that loss was a motivator to "get better.").

I suggest that you write a bit clearer, and then you get bent out of shape and act like a baby. Talk about sand in the ....

Despite a loss, this was a good game for the Griz. I feel sorry for Hutch and Andy; two fine young men, and I hope they can find their places. Gregory and Jamar had two short cold periods: that was the game; but outside of that, there was some great basketball.

You can't look at Mike Weisner's performance tonight and not think that when all of the key players for this team finally hit at the same time, this can be a great team.

I hope this weekend can be looked back as the turnaround point. Would I liked to have been at the game. The Lady Griz had a battle on their hands with Weber St this afternoon until the last 8 or so minutes. Weber plays tough and physical defense and is aggressive in the paint. They're aren't going to go winless in conference this year. One of the refs really stunk it up.

UMGriz75: I, too, hurt for these truly good kids (Hutch, Martin & Kemp). Snakebit. For too long, it seems.

But these are all good kids with talent. Couple that with their coaches' patience & ability to make adjustments... and this game can be a springboard for them all.

If they DO ever put it all together in one game... soon. Watch out.

I would never start Weisner again. He is a very good role player. If you play him for 15-20 minutes off the bench he can be a real asset to the team. He is not built to start and play 30 minutes, that has always been the case and always will be. Good to see him play well tonight!

I usually am not one for moral victories either, but if there is such a thing this is one. I thought going into this weekend a split would be big and something to build on. The boys played a good game and had a successful weekend. Good job. :thumb:

grizzlyjournal - I think it is time to face facts. Hutch isn't "snakebit." He just isn't very good. Yes, he's probably a good kid, and he appears to try hard, but after 4(3?) years of "development" if the light-bulb hasn't came on, I don't really think it's going to. Martin, I still think he has a bit of "development" time.

Everyone is wondering why Kemp can't get consistency, but I think one of the main problems is that it is damn hard to get consistent when your minutes aren't. On that note - Tinks needs to get better at being more consistent with benching / not benching players. Don't sit Kemp for making an offensive mistake when you keep leaving Hutch in there to have the ball clank off his hands darn near every time he gets thrown the ball.

I haven't given up on the season, but at this point, I'll be stunned if the Griz even make the Big Sigh tourney.

Agreed. Griz needed to take advantage of every opportunity to beat a good team in a hostile environment, and missed a few key openings. Congrats on the win to the Wildcats.

Except about when it's time to "face the facts," which I did real early in this season (the home loss to San Francisco, for instance... etc. etc.)

But seasons of basketball are sometimes like card games: you got to play with the hand you're dealt.

I've got a high respect for the Montana coaches for NOT folding their hand.

So... yeah, it's possible the Griz might not make the tourney.

But I'm going to let this season play out (to the last hand, so to speak). What else can I do? Take a hike up to the M?

I agree with you, Rep. The the weird thing about this year (& it's SO early), is that -- to do so -- the Griz now have to rely on 2-to-3 teams beating Portland State and Eastern Washington on the road.... something the Griz did not (past tense; can't change this) DO.

I hear ya grizjournal - didn't mean that as a stab at you or anything, I was mostly just exasperated from hearing for the hundredth time it seems (not all from you) that Hutch "just needs time" or is "just so close" or is "just unlucky." Don't get me wrong, I'm gonna keep rooting and cheering, but I guess I've just hit the point where I'm not really gonna expect a whole lot from the team this year. Not that I don't think the coaches aren't trying, or don't care or whatever...I'm just expecting the worst...which isn't a very good attitude. Comes from years of being beat-down as a mariners fan I guess.

In the end though, I'll bleed Maroon and Silver until I die. Go Griz!
