Griz v. Cats Running Backs

I think Ostmo is one of those guys who gets "better" the more carries he gets...and this year he ain't getting those carries, they're going to Gillman...

But hey, if you take out Gillman's 85 yard run and his 53 yard run, his YPC don't look too hot either.

I vote we only count the bad carries against the good teams.

That's what I was thinking. If you took out all of Gillman's gains, his YPC would be 0.0, or maybe even negative.

I wonder how many Cat backs would have as good of an average per carry, is you backed out their longest runs? I suppose these Cat trolls would be making the argument that taking out their longest runs would make their stats better.

B: Sumner, Davis, and Humphrey were all out with injuries.

So, are you admitting that the Cats don't have any good healthy backs available now? "Our injured backs are all-world."

Objection!

Leading the witness.

  I'm sure some would try. These are the people that brought us hits like, "It's actually good that both coordinators got arrested for DUIs because coaches without one are more likely to get one." I've been saying it for years: A lot of them are definitely the youngest kid who acted like he loved sitting in the middle of the backseat with his feet on the hump.

Ha ha. No, fortunately Cats have at least six RBs that would probably be starting for the griz. Who leads the nation in rushing yards? MSU Bobcats. Who leads the nation in points scores because of the dominant rushing attack? MSU Bobcats. All of this after losing the top three projected RBs - Ifanse, Williams, and Lane Sumner. Sounds like Sumner, RB1 to start the season but injured in the first game, is coming back soon. You'll get to see it all play our soon enough, live and in person when the Cats run all over the griz, AGAIN.

Gilman has been selected for the Rice award.

How dumb are the Cat posters for running their mouths off over how good their running backs are, and how they are better than the Griz rb's? The top 3 Griz running backs are better than the Cats' rb's. Cat fans (some) and posters (most) have no clue. They are stupid.

"Montana running back Eli Gillman ... is among the 22 players on the watch list for the award that honors the FCS freshman of the year."

Great post, you are spot on as usual. Yes, I'd rather have the griz RBs, the griz OL, the griz QBs, and hell, might as well take the griz coaches too. lol.

Nice to see it only took you six days to untuck the tail from between your legs and show your face again after proclaiming we don't have a single position better than Idaho and that we'd get stomped.

I like both the UM and the MSU backfields in terms of talent. I've said since before the season that I think both are good, but the Cats are better. But I also agree with those who have said that it's impossible to isolate RB performance from the design of the offense, the play of the OL, and the presence of a running threat (or multiple) at QB.

So I could cite the statistics that show that MSU running backs have been dramatically more productive, but the predictable counter will be that that's just because of context.

One thing that occurred to me: if you isolate the RB carries for UM just since McDowell took over (ISU, UCD, and ID)-- which I think UM fans would agree is when the offense found a groove and the running game took off-- you're talking about 73 carries for 342 yards (4.7 YPC). That's very good! And yet, not even remotely close to the Cats (8.2 YPC from the running backs so far this season).

So I guess you have three reasonable conclusions available:

1) The MSU backfield is a lot more talented.

2) The MSU offense is that much superior in scheme and supporting talent.

3) Some combination of 1 and 2.

Sorry, I don't follow Cat's football, but are you the guy who was defending "over the pants" molestation of minors?

Last time in Missoula it was the cats that got run all over. We'll go for that AGAIN.

HA! Apparently I was wrong about Idaho. Luckily I didn't put any money on that game but I did think they would beat you, and I always own up when I'm wrong. I'm still not convinced um is a championship caliber team, but if they are they I'll once again get on here and admit I was wrong. Idaho really looked bad for some of that game, mainly the first half. Was it the griz just being so good that it made ID look bad? I'll be the judge of that in fifteen days after the Cats get a crack at ID. But first up, Sac State tomorrow night. I know most of griz nation will be tuning in and pulling hard for Sac State in about 27 hours!

Uh..... what? Stat line shows 96 rushing yards for the Cats, 51 for the griz in 2021. 2022 game was FOUR HUNDRED THIRTY NINE rushing yards for the Cats, 96 for the griz. The 2019 game was THREE HUNDRED EIGHTY TWO rushing yards Cats, 46 griz. That's astounding.

The Griz were that good in the first half. Almost every knowledgeable and unbiased person who watched the first half would say that. Same with the running backs. Most knowledgeable and unbiased people wouldn't say the Cats' running backs.

As others have noted, some Cat fans are so arrogant that they are blinded to making a fair judgement of their team. "The Griz stink; Cats are all-world, as are all of their players." You are a prime example of that.

Nope, wrong again bucko. I have never said the griz stink. I think they've proven to be a pretty good team, but not great. They might be great by the end of the season, we'll see. The Cats are elite. Different level. You'll soon find out, and I'll expect a full apology. lol

Sorry, again, were you not the pro-over the pants sexual assault of teenagers guy? Or was that a different Cat fan?

The day you were born was the start of you being wrong. You aren’t even smart enough to look at strength of schedule before spewing garbage. Cats played one good team this year. Happened to be both teams first game. Let’s just let the season play out and until then, per usual we will take your posts are nothing more than pure comedy. Your team is heading into the teeth of their schedule. We will see soon enough how good they are.

Bzzzzzzzt. Nope. Of course I look at strength of schedule. I follow FCS very closely, probably too much. I know what's going on with all the top teams. MSU is really good this year, and I mean really good. You'll find out.

You don’t understand football. Your posts over the years have shown that. You’re saying the Cats are really good is meaningless. You are the one who will find out.

I'd take the cats o line all day. If our backs had that line and the same offensive scheme their numbers would be monstrous

The griz rbs are superior but are handicapped due to the lackluster o line we have. The Idaho game was the best they e done and still were average at best. Cats o line is great. Ours on average, is below average.

What I would have given to be the kid in the middle on the hump. You know how much exhaust comes in the “luggage” area of a ‘68 Chrysler wagon? I was proud to get to St regis without a stop. The s curves to the pass were not in the realm of possibility without a stop.

And I was a middle kid.
