GRIZ/UND game thread

Montana has yet to learn how to close out a game...this is their glaring weakness. Every game they seem to fade

I think either Gregory or Breunig could be BSC's player of the week with their performances of past couple games....

Just watched bit of the Weber and Idaho...UM looks better than all of them, at least at home.

Thursday at Weber could be huge. Hard to say that on game 3, but....

Watching Weebs/Spuds.

It appears that Bolomboy has been anointed the BSC's "Annual Weber Player to Protect Award".

Congrats to him..... :o

Glad to have made this game too. A little better crowd than on the UNC game. Again, loving the pep band getting involved in the game and vocal. It will be interesting to see if they can get the student body going when the semester starts.

Defense and rebounding were very good. The GRIZ defense is quick to the ball and getting better every game. UND moved the ball terrific. Their post players were not very good offensively. Breunig was a total mismatch for their bigs. He was too quick, athletic, and versatile for them. They really had no answer for him. I also am glad to see the GRIZ added a few wrinkles to the offense when Breunig gets the ball in the post. The GRIZ ran a through plays through him, each of which converted FG's or drew a foul from his passing. He is very good at passing and recognizing defenses.

Gregory had his typical game of great shooting, solid defense, and a few nice assists. I honestly believe 18 pts, 3 assists, 4 rebounds can be expected from him most games. Kemp and Krslovic are really starting to step up nicely. Krslovic is one of the better offensive rebounding freshman post players I've seen in awhile. He also has Andrew Strait like post moves with great footwork. He even makes a few nice passes per game. Kemp is really working hard and applying himself consistently. He is getting much more aggressive offensively. The guy uses his strength well and knows how to use the backboard to shield would be defenders. I wish he had Krslovic's nose for the ball on rebounds.

Jack Lopez is a player that just makes things happen a few times per game. Things that don't show up in the stat sheet. He is not dynamic at any one thing. He has great hands and instincts knowing when and where a ball is going. He gets his hands on the ball a lot on defense. He is crafty mixing it up on the boards too. I feel he will get better as the team adapts to higher paced offense. I really am taking a liking to his game too.

Mario Dunn again did not look to score other than when needed or an opportunity was there for him. I am confident he can score more, but really does not need to very often. He is terrific defensively, and the guy gets a lot of rebounds for a PG, like Cherry did. I do hope Dunn has a few games where he gets double digits at ease. He will be needed to score if and when Gregory and/or Breunig struggle.

I was pretty proud of Gfeller this game as well. UND committed to taking away the 3 point shot from him. I think he only shot 3 or 4 of them. He did hit 2 critical 3's though. He also rebounded, and played solid defense. He did not let the lack of scoring get into his head. Mentally, he appears to be making progress and starting to realize he can be a complete player, and contribute with more than shooting. I thought UND did a terrific job defending him. I hope Gfeller will dedicate himself to being a better ball handler, just like Gregory did after his Sophomore year. That would allow Gfeller the ability to create for himself, then learn to create for teammates. He is rounding into a very nice player.

Bradshaw played sparingly, solid defense but looked a little lost on offense. I think his shooting struggle from a few games back is in his head. He is not looking as comfortable out there as he was a few games back.

Going into next week against ISU and WSU, I really like where this GRIZ team is at. I liked they proved in the UND game they can score without hoisting up so many 3's, and took what UND gave them. They were not doing that most of the out of conference season.

The GRIZ have an absolutely wonderful 1- 2 scoring punch with Gregory and Breunig. Both are unselfish players too, but learning to take over games when needed and rest the team struggling. They each want the ball in their hands as often as possible. They both shoot FT's well too. Breunig looks to me to be a 80% FT shooter. Gregory is an 85% ft shooter. They both have gotten over their ft slumps early in the season.

Good job GRIZ, now let's go get a difficult road sweep next weekend. This is very tough road trip every season. This trip will help define who this GRIZ team is. GO GRIZ!!!!!

I'd say the way you beat NDSU earlier (who beat und by 30) and is (9-5 with a couple, nice wins) that you are the favorite in the sky. Good luck
