GRIZ/UND game thread

Sorry I haven't been following basketball that closely, but why are we without an inside presence? Did we have a big guy get injured?

We've had shit luck lately with recruiting bigs and having them stay.

Billy Reader....gone (grades)
Kovacevic... gone (transfer issues if I remember right)
Coleman... gone (stupid decisions outside of basketball)
Wiley.... gone to play football.

Bummer, thank you for the information.

Throw in Hutch not living up to his expectations.

How are we even within 4 points?

UND hasn't hit a fg in a long time.

Griz lose 74-69.

Turnovers cost us the game... 17 turnovers, 12 in the 2nd half is just flat out unacceptable.

We shot better than them, outrebounded them, hit more 3s (for a higher percentage) than them, but turned it over way too much.

Damn..that very white, very overweight crowd is the most laid back crowd I have ever seen in a college basketball game..

Love Wayne but what a terrible coaching job today. Awful

What did he do so horrible? We turned the ball over way too many times, which is very uncharacteristic. Team Defense was horrible. Strategically what could have he done?

If anything, the team as a whole just was not focused, and even staff looked down on the bench. Sorry, this one was more of the players not executing.

Griz: 24-44 (54.5%) from the field, 5-12 from 3 (41.7%) and 16-19 from the FT line (84.2%).
Also outrebounded UND 30-27.

UND: 27-57 (47.4%) from the field, 2-12 from 3 (16.7%), and 18-26 from the line (69.2%) with 27 rebounds.

Turnovers, 17 for the Griz, 11 for UND. That's the game. Not usual for the Griz to turn it over like that... we've been very good at taking care of the ball this year over all. Asses will be chewed for this I'm sure as they should be.

Jamar with 6 turnovers.
Gregory with 5 turnovers.
DeShields with 3 turnovers.
Dunn, Weisner and Hutch with 1 each.

It was better than the crowds we have seen at PSU, Sac, and SUU. What does that say about the conference?

Besides the turnovers our woes at the 5 were very evident again. Which is why we went small ball for much of the game.

22 minutes combined by our 5s accounted for 2 points and 1 rebound and 7 fouls.

As Tinkle said we protected the rim on D better when we were playing small ball. Sounds disappointed with our bigs.

Good God that was ugly ...I am also a Wayne fan but is anyone else tired of these weird line-ups? These guys have no idea where or when they'll be playing. At times they sub and bring in players who in my opinion bring nothing,, earlier in the season I can see subbing a lot but it is down to 6-8 more games, can't they just pick 6-8 players and go for it? Play guys that either bring or not...win or die with them and let some of our youth get a lot more playing time, in all types of circumstances..(Martin or Kemp). From what I see there a few bench guys that just don't bring it and really doubt if they'll even remain with the team next year? Anyone else frustrated as me?

Tinkle's post-game comments:

We're upset in the locker room. This has been a tough trip. Something changed with our guys. Practices were'nt the same this week. We lost the momentum we built up the last 4 weeks, but then the guys drop their guard. We can't do that this time of year.

We outboard them, out shoot them, but the highest # of TOs we've had all year, and they got a lot of easy buckets and dunks.

Head scratching. Our leaders showed some immaturity. Very uncharacteristic with the 2nd half turnovers. We didn't protect the paint at all with the Bigs in. We did a better job going small defending inside.

Love the heart the last 8 minutes. There's never any quit. But we shot ourselves in the foot with TOs and the flagrant foul.

Gotta get back to Msla and get to work. We've got to getter, right now. We've got weber coming in and we've gotta go get one game at a time and try to even make the tourn. Hopefully we can get some momentum back.

3 weeks left, and for some of these guys it'll be their last 3 weeks, and yet we have guys come out and seem disinterested. But we're confident we can get refocused and make a run.

Our griz dig some deep holes.....and do show heart, desire. But especially on the road a recipe for another loss. Given our 0 inside game, anemic rebounding..this team has over produced. Weber up next....would it not be great to pack the place and stick it to the purple cats!

THAT just might be the key to the problems that UM has demonstrated over the entire season. Not the only one, for sure, but I have noticed it and I have noticed the players beng tentative and not consistent. This is not a good year for UM hoops top to bottom. Jamar is the bright spot but he is gone next season....
