Griz to play U of Washington

As most people on this board know, I see no reason for UM to ever play an FBS team (or a Div. II team, for that matter). UM is an FCS school, and an all-FCS schedule suits me just fine.

Absolutely!! :thumb:

I agree, but I believe some of the kids like to play the big boys at least once.

Sure. Don't you think App St will be a challenge?

Absolutely.. but a challenge from a Pac12 team will be good for the team as well.
Why?

If they are going to play up, I'd MUCH rather it be a regional team like UW rather than a team from across the country like Iowa or Tennessee. :thumb:

THAT I agree with, AZGriz. But, more, I just wish they wouldn't do it all.

Agreed. I much prefer the all-FCS schedule like this year. 11 counters. 11 winnable games. No wasted D-II or NAIA game...no unwinnable FBS game. :thumb: :thumb:

Noone has really discussed this point yet, but of all years to have an all-FCS schedule this one probably couldn't have come at a better time...with the turmoil associated with the program right now, we'll have 11 chances to win 7....that bodes well for playoff consideration at the end of the year. :thumb:

We should play a FBS team every year. It's good for recruiting as parents, recruits, high school coaches see we play schools that someone has heard of unlike some of the schools in our conference. :thumb:

You would have to be living under a rock to have never heard of the schools in the Big Sky Conf. Seriously Spanky your arguments are getting weaker and weaker.

Glad to answer Hammer. Although, I didn't state that I hadn't heard of them, I can tell you I wasn't aware of either Northern Colorado or Southern Utah until just a few years ago and I had vague knowledge of Eastern Washington. Of course, there are other schools in the Big Sky that aren't known to many people on a national basis....Northern Arizona comes to mind.

We have played EWU basically every year since about 1980, I'm surprised your knowledge of them is "vague"

Spanky, no smack intended, but just curious, are you a newer GRIZ fan? Like 2001 and up? To not know that EWU has been a Big Sy member for a LONGGGGGGG time is strange to me. One of the greatest Griz road games ever played was in the mud and much at EWU in 1996. The Eags all but had the Griz beat and a perfect regular season looked dead, except for the Griz had smokin' Joe Douglas and he saved the day, TWICE! Also, SUU has played the Griz often and actually have a rare win at Wash/Griz. I can't remember which year that was but they triple-optioned the Griz to death that day.

havegrizfan....I graduated from UM in 1963 and was a fan before that. Also, my family has UM ties back to 1935, so I'm not just a new person to UM athletics. I'm aware that UM has played the Washington school for years....used to be Cheney Community College. If you took a national survey, the majority would say they haven't heard of the schools I mentioned.

I have to agree with Spanky on this one. I have a good knowledge of all the Big Sky teams and much of the FCS. However, if you were to take a poll at the stadium especially this year with the new additions I would have to say half of the people wouldn't be able to name 10 teams in the conference. Now take that poll to any state in the country besides Montana or really any city out of Montana that doesn't have an FCS team and that number skyrockets to around 100% and the ones who do know a couple only know Montana maybe Montana State and maybe EWU because of the success in the playoffs recently.
