Years ago -- I don't remember the year for sure ... probably December of '84 or '85 ... the Huskies played in Missoula. My spouse and I had been in Seattle for a Seahawks game (that's another story in itself) and were forced to come all the way back on terrible airline-provided buses, due to fog EVERYWHERE in the northwest. Anyway, the Huskies BB team was on the same bus as we were from Spokane to Missoula -- and they kept the entire bus load of people entertained. Firstly, they were mostly too tall for the bus seats, so sat mostly in the aisles, and the center (I can't think of his name ... he was Dutch, I believe, and went on to play in the NBA) sat in the entry stairwell, leaning against the driver's chair. We were given sack lunches, and these boys ate ANYTHING the rest of us didn't eat, and were still hungry! We got into Missoula in the middle of the night, and the teams played that next night -- and the Griz won! We were at the game and, of course, rooting for the Griz, but had a real soft place in our hearts for the Washington kids with whom we'd shared a five-hour bus ride. It's a favorite memory of ours.
