Griz to host Mississippi Valley State on October 8th

Nice job on scheduling you're own ETSU.

Nice job keeping a DII team on the schedule to inflate those stats. Maybe this year you guys will actually be able to score more than 14 points in the first half against a DII team.

Nice syntax.

Actually ETSU's football program was dormant since 2003 and played its first football last year. Contrast that to St. Francis and MVS who have both played football at the 1-AA/FCS level since 1996 and 1981 respectively. I realize in your (or for you that would be "you're") lazy mind that makes them the same as ETSU. Are they top-notch FCS competition? No, unfortunately not but you get to own the legacy of playing ETSU in the first season back playing football after 12 years of doing nothing. Enjoy.

All the games are counters for the playoffs...that is most important. I don't really care if MVSU is worse than Central Washington, playing CWU, Adams State, Panhandle St, does not help for playoff wins. Give me an all FCS schedule every year! Would rather pay the stupid OOC ticket price to see Mississippi Valley than Panhandle St any day
This needs to be cleared up. HEY EVERYONE!! D2 wins count now and a great D2 win will help more then a bad D1 win for the playoff process. Also, FBS losses DO affect your playoff selection also. The committee now uses a system called the Simple Ranking System or SRS. It's similar to an RPI ranking.

Here's an article from 2013 that mentions the change.
http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2013/09/11/in-fcs-huddle-nothing-simple-about-fcs-playoff-selections.html#

The SRS will factor in all of a team's games against FCS, FBS and Division II competition. In past years, a game against a Division II opponent did not count toward a team's resume.

But the new system will incorporate them into the equation and rightfully differentiate the levels of wins, including both home and away, which will provide a true strength of schedule tool. It will be recalculated on a weekly basis through the final regular-season games on Nov. 23 and the announcement of the playoff field the next morning.

Just to clarify, I'm NOT for scheduling really good D2 teams. I also don't want piss poor D1 teams on the sched. But PLEASE people, understand that the all FCS sched is not as important as is was.

Hope they bring the Mean Green Marching machine - it could make for the largest 1/2 time attendance in the history of WA-Griz.

At least we do not have to guard Jerry Rice. Great addition to the schedule and way to go Kent and staff for putting that schedule together! Excellent job!  :thumb: :thumb:

9/3/2016 Saint Francis Missoula, Mont.
9/10/2016 Northern Iowa Cedar Falls, Iowa
9/24/2016 Cal Poly * San Luis Obispo, Calif. TB
10/1/2016 Southern Utah * Missoula, Mont. Homecoming
10/8/2016 Mississippi Valley State Missoula, Mont.
10/15/2016 Sacramento State * Missoula, Mont.
10/22/2016 Northern Arizona * Flagstaff, Ariz.
10/29/2016 Eastern Washington * Cheney, Wash.
11/5/2016 Idaho State * Missoula, Mont.
11/12/2016 Northern Colorado * Greeley, Colo.
11/19/2016 Montana State * Missoula, Mont.

Well, looks like my only two choices (since there's no WAY I'm going to the meth capital of the world) are another away game at CP (to see my brother SloStang) or getting to Missoula on the 19th of November to see my first Brawl in person--ever.
how is this even a debate?

Come home, AZ.

They'd beat etsu by 4 touches.

And of course, we're playing an all DI schedule, unlike the pity kitties (again!!). But I suspect you probably knew that and just wish to troll. The thing is, though: you really suck at it.

I'm so confused by the attempted Cat trolling in this thread. Then, I think it's my own fault. It's been ridiculous and nonsensical for over a decade. Fucking Lilbro State, just quit while you're (note the proper usage) the same amount behind.

Remember the cup cake East Tennessee State MSU played last year?

Remember all the crap that was shoveled over that?

Yeah

:coffee:

Remember how that was one of your very few wins?

Yeah

:coffee:

And remember how it was ETSU's first season on the football field since 2003?

Yeah.

:coffee:

But whatever makes Cat fans feel better I guess.

Remember how that ETSU team that state played was made up of almost all freshman :?: :!: :?: :!:

Yeah

Remember how the State College Bobcats have sucked for the majority of the last third of a century, including in the most recent years, and have done absolutely nothing but surface makeovers over that time to change the constant state of suckage, but nonetheless resort to annual attempts to argue that never having a girlfriend is somehow better than only making out with the prom queen, all the while, denying the fact that their entire program's lil' bro mentality is one cause of their lil' bro status?

Yeah.

This is OUTSTANDING...I've been advocating for a SWAC team to come to Missoula for years!!!
Way to go AD and Staff!!!   :thumb: As has already been said, but I'll say again, thanks for keeping the schedule to D1 teams.

I saw in the Missoulian article the following statement:

"The Griz still have one opening in each 2017 and 2018 with the athletic department hoping to find a home-and-home series to plug in, the Griz hosting in 2017 and hitting the road to complete the contract the following season."

If you can't find a home and home series, here is another thought. I've said before that Grambling State would be another outstanding choice from the SWAC. Maybe they would come with their band which is outstanding. I saw them (and the band) play at Portland State years ago in Portland. Great fun!! Also a program with a DEEP tradition...Eddie Robinson, Doug Williams, and a winning tradition:

Another option I've talked about for several years now is bringing a team from the Ivy League to Missoula. Maybe Coach Stitt still has some connections at Harvard. That would be A LOT of fun!! I believe Cal Poly played Yale a couple of years ago so there is precedence for the Big Sky and Ivy League playing football games.

Roger, you clearly have been digging around my brain. Thinking exactly this.
And I'll add, even if it's a bit silly.. I hope the drumline travels here with the team! How 'bout a battle of the bands at the half?! Love to see that and I never played in a band.

There is only 1 Ivy worthy of coming to Missoula...and that is PlayReps Dartmouth Fighting Lawyers......Player will be starting at CB for them and covering the Griz best player at every position.
