Griz to host Mississippi Valley State on October 8th

MVSU is garbage. You don't need any stats to prove. They know it. We know it. Everyone knows it. Garbage.

And Missouri State? Really? Their only win this year was against Chadron State, minus Danny Woodhead.

These two teams suck and will only count as an FCS win which isn't even nessasary anymore. A top ranked D2 school helps the strength of schedule more then these FCS bottom feeders.
We're not playing Missouri State. WE're playing UNI.

I believe he was referencing the future home-and-home that was announced with Missouri St.

Here's the Bob-kitten's Schedule. I see three wins there.

9/1/2016 at Idaho
9/10/2016 Bryant
9/17/2016 Western Oregon
9/24/2016 North Dakota
10/1/2016 at Sacramento State
10/8/2016 Northern Arizona
10/15/2016 at Weber State
10/22/2016 Eastern Washington
11/5/2016 at Southern Utah
11/12/2016 UC Davis
11/19/2016 at Montana

Is this right? Neither U of M nor the Kitties play Portland State next year? Is this possible because of the new alignment? I'm confused.

Correct.....

All D-1 schedule is good for me. No, MSVU is not a DII school. They were bad last year, yes, but I promise you, they are better than the DII that was going to come to Missoula. And it's not even close.

you are trying to spin the "degree of terrible" angle......and don't get me wrong....I am glad they found a FCS team...but don't sugar coat what type of opponent they are....

I also think the schedules have been damn good for a number of years now, and, like everything else, nothing lasts forever, and there was always going to come a time when UM was going to run into some scheduling difficulties. This coming season was one of those seasons. But with how well both O'Day and Haslam have done with scheduling in recent years, and knowing that Kent is going to continue to try and put the best schedules out there and not settle, I can live with a pair of FCS cupcakes for the coming season.

I'm not spinning anything. IMHO, MSVU would destroy the team the Griz were going to play, by a wide, wide margin.

that doesn't mean that MVSU is a decent FCS team...because they aren't....they are a D2 level team in FCS disguise....not that there is anything wrong with that...

Who said they were decent? I certainly did not. I did say they were not a DII, and at the risk of sounding like 75, that is an actual fact. The Devils play FCS football just like Montana does. They have the same scholarship as Montana does. Those are facts that can't be disputed. I also said, yes, they were bad last year. But it doesn't change the fact that they do not play DII football. And, shuffling back through this thread, I don't see anyone else who said they were decent either.

Well you DID say MVSU would "destroy" any D2 team that would come to Missoula. I might disagree since in MVSU's last three games against D2's since 2012, they are 1-2 and that one win was against, I swear to God I'm not making this up, The University of Faith-Florida. Their two losses are Delta State and Concordia. Yes, the SWAC is FCS but the whole con is REAL bad.

The one thing I don't necessarily like about this schedule is the bye week is September 17, after only two games having been played. That is going to be a long slog the rest of the season after that.

Two weeks for the defense to prepare for Poly isn't a bad thing based on our recent history.

I could not agree more ...if the bye has to be early I the season then this is the time to have it, before the poly game.....we will need all the time we can get in order to help our defense imo.....

hav....they are no better than a poor D2 team...actually they would be a piss poor D2 team....that is my only point....but honestly I didn't care who they scheduled for the final game.....

I blame Stitt for this scheduling nightmare. I know that AD is supposed to in charge of the scheduling but this has the black hand's fingerprints all over it.

This one is better than a lot of the home games the Griz have had to play over the years. I would not be happy to see Western St. or Oklahoma Pan Handle come to Missoula. Great job Kent! Way to go man!

This is OUTSTANDING...I've been advocating for a SWAC team to come to Missoula for years!!!
Way to go AD and Staff!!!   :thumb: As has already been said, but I'll say again, thanks for keeping the schedule to D1 teams.

I saw in the Missoulian article the following statement:

"The Griz still have one opening in each 2017 and 2018 with the athletic department hoping to find a home-and-home series to plug in, the Griz hosting in 2017 and hitting the road to complete the contract the following season."

If you can't find a home and home series, here is another thought. I've said before that Grambling State would be another outstanding choice from the SWAC. Maybe they would come with their band which is outstanding. I saw them (and the band) play at Portland State years ago in Portland. Great fun!! Also a program with a DEEP tradition...Eddie Robinson, Doug Williams, and a winning tradition:

Another option I've talked about for several years now is bringing a team from the Ivy League to Missoula. Maybe Coach Stitt still has some connections at Harvard. That would be A LOT of fun!! I believe Cal Poly played Yale a couple of years ago so there is precedence for the Big Sky and Ivy League playing football games.
