Griz Starting Five!

I know the Griz are deep this year, and a lot will contribute. Who do you see as the starting five.
I see: Whitney, Beasley, Bannon, Owens and Blakney. Vasquez could be the first off the bench.
To be honest, I know very little about the players coming in, but have heard great things. Does anyone have any insight into the new players?

Probably pretty close.

We have a plethora of guards and are interchangeable. But I don't see how you cannot start Vasquez.

Whitney, Beasley, Martin, Bannon, Blakney

It's my belief that (in the past) Montana's full 2-deep rotation is usually pre-determined through at least the first 10 minutes, with the first subs entering the floor (very early), usually in the first 2-3 minutes of play, often with a play being run specifically for one of those first subs. That has seemed pretty unique to me. I don't see many teams with a sub-in rotation that takes place so early in games.

In past years, for the Griz, the pattern will repeat by the 4-5 minute mark (when a lot of teams put their first subs onto the floor). By then, Montana usually has put between 7-to-9 players in action. It's been my opinion over the past 5-6 seasons that the players who get onto the floor in the first 8-10 minutes are those I consider Montana's "starting" rotation. These are the guys who will see the most minutes through the first half & probably the game (depending on how tight the game is).

What has me really curious about tonight is whether two unique 5-player rotations play as units for an extended stretch (say, 3 minutes). If the Griz are healthy, I think it's possible. That would be pretty unique, even for the Griz, and maybe a sign of things to come.

Agree.

Out of curiosity what would be your starting line-up? Who would you take-out for Vasquez? Whitney? Beasley?

Here is my prediction:

Whitney, Beasley and Bannan are automatics.

Blakeney or Anderson at the 5. I would lean Anderson.

Then Martin or Owens in the final spot.

I just hope TDC takes the restrictor plate off the offense this year. We have a very small team - hopefully that means we can run. And what with the 7’ 8” (or whatever he is) guy the Cats have? That’s gonna be fun watching him try to keep up.
