Griz Soccer 2026

I think a back up power 4 keeper who’s ready to step out of someone shadow (most likely 1 and done)

A center back very similar just want to play and be successful (2 years remaining)

An Attacking midfield, high mid major or P4 that wants to play soccer.

Goal scoring forward (that want there final year to be

Big ECNL tournament in Phoenix/Scottsdale this weekend.

Phoenix Rising, Boise Thorns FC, So Cal Blues, and Bay Area Surf all had good matches.

I didn't watch any games but did run into some girls from a couple teams at an In-N-Out in Scottsdale
Yes it was also 98 degrees congrats to the all the players and coaches, I think there were over 200 coaches there. Coach Gore and J were there.

It was a big weekend, Montana and WSU were there along with 200 other coaches, for local teams, La Roca, Utah Avalanche, Boise Thorns had some good moments. Montana was at the La Roca game. Slammers very impressive and their coach has ties to the Griz, maybe start pulling more players from them. Next major ECNL showcase is in NC end of May and then the ECNL playoffs in Seattle in July.

Hi all—I've been following the eGriz threads for a while, and have appreciated the insight. Looking forward to learning more about Griz Soccer and catching matches this season. New to Griz territory.

Anyway, best of luck to the girls and coaches. I’ve been digging and Googling through the roster and the incoming class, and even though it’s a younger group, they look pretty solid, no horrible gaps. And no knock on anyone, but young does not mean they can't compete, Montana is not lining up against FSU or UNC here, and in the mid-major - Big Sky world, they read like a team that can make a run for it. We'll see!

Welcome to eGriz😊. Fair warning, to keep those eGrizvibes positive, steer clear of the football forum. Some posters tend to get very messy there, that is unless your comfortable in the mucky muck😁👍.

Welcome home! ☺️ Griz Soccer has a great following from the Missoula Communty and surrounding areas. If you don't know and a little Griz Soccer history, Betsy Duerksen was the first Griz Soccer head coach and she set the standard of Griz Soccer.

If you haven't listened to the Griz Fan Podcast (GFP) with Coach Gore, take the time. I like how he plans to structure the team and play the game. Soccer is a beautiful sport when it's played how Coach Gore is going to coach the Griz to play.

Coach Gore seems solid. I know enough about him to know Troy was a placeholder, he wanted away, and he's excited to be in Montana and heading Griz Soccer. The combination of Coach jay - defense and goalkeepers - and Coach Gore - striking, speed of play and direct, physical play - should be a good combo and bring some fun play, and different to that of the past several years.

5'10" GK Lorelei Rustay of Bay Area Surf recently flipped her 2026 commitment from WSU to Montana - most likely due to the number of GK already in Pullman. Below is a TDS write-up of Rustay's exceptional play on the third day of competition with her team at an ECNL Showcase in Phoenix a year ago. And recall that both Ashlyn Dvorak and Bayliss Flynn were "lights out" as freshmen for the Griz.

"Rustay showcased an impressive display of goalkeeping skills. She has sharp reflexes and strategic positions that led to multiple one-on-one save situations. Her ability to make curial saves in those individual confrontations boosted the morale of the entire team."

She played for a top team so she will hopefully be great. But don't put too much into the write up. Most of the time the TDS write ups are submitted by the families.

This summary on Lorelei Rustay was written by a sports reporter for the State Press in Arizona. He featured 16 girls who stood out on day 3 of that showcase, and the writing style for all 16 was similar and professional. Two of the 16 featured players were GK, and the other GK signed with University of Illinois.

I'm trusting Coach Gore and Coach J on the GK situation for fall, and probably they will bring in a third player to battle it out. Go Griz!!

Agree, all the commits are a wait and see - have to prove it on the field, but feel really optimistic with this commit. Good to be optimistic, but nothing is a slam dunk (or grand slam!) until proven on the field. We also had really good, veteran centerbacks and defenders in front of all those rookie GK'ers (add Cam Xu to that list of rookie GK) and those freshmen GK'ers were all actually redshirt freshmen who had a year training with the Griz before playing a college game. I think Lorelai looks really promising and I'd just like to see a vet from the portal be brought in to play CB if we go with a true freshmen in goal.
Amanda was on Temple's lacrosse staff as director of ops, not on the soccer staff at Temple but great to have a female who played forward at a high level in college on the staff.

The Griz didn't play with a ball possession mentality last year and I like that Coach Gore says they are going to be more of a possession team. I think that was the biggest defect of the Griz when they played UW. I kept yelling at the screen to keep possession of the ball and stop turning it over to the Huskies. The other team can't score if you have possession of the ball.

Isn’t that how the Netherlands women play? I know team USA struggles against that. I will say it is sometimes boring soccer…I’m not a 1-0 guy. I’m a 3-0 guy. When my daughters play, I’m always saying 2-0 is 1 lucky play, then 1 down on yourself to a tie lol
