It simply can't be done. We don't have the deep pockets of a Missouri State to be able to make that kind of leap. I've commented on the geography of it regarding covered wagons, and it stands true. Plus, I don't really trust air travel. A metal tube in the sky that takes you anywhere in ~3-4 hours for $300? Sounds fishy to me. What are they trying to pull? I'm not buying into this "Wright Brothers" nonsense. We just need to hunker down, realize that CFB isn't changing at all, and everything will be fine if we just do nothing.
Yeah, I think that was pure rumor. Certainly some on the BoR expressed their desire that the two remain linked, but I don't think such a motion ever passed.

Why? Although this is a long shot at best, that conference would be better from day one than 4 existing FBS conferences, all of whom are PRINTING money when compared to the bsc.

Is there any reason their non-football teams couldn't compete in the BSC? Then using that time as a transition period ( essentially vetting the conference) for potential transition of football and a move up for some of the current conference teams? Or is it just easier to consider alignment with an existing conference?
Well, what do they do with the sports the bsc (#bsc) doesn't sponsor? And what is the benefit to the conference? The last thing they need is two more teams. They need about 4 fewer.
Now, if the bsc were to become a real DI conference and offer more sports, and jettison all the dead weight, then I'd love this idea.
The additional teams are a big issue, I guess I'm on the same page as you in that if the BSC were to put on some "big boy" pants and become a real D1 conference I'd love to have them as regional rivals especially WSU.

Why would they waste time with the BSC when they can do what they are doing, scheduling agreements with the MWC and WCC. Those schools are the ones they are looking at, not the BSC.
All true, why waste their time... except that my curious side wonders if that is going to be a successful endeavor (more of the same that's going on in college football) and still hoping for the best for the Griz! One may argue that it's not better but having a higher quality opponent in conference play plus a more natural regional rival would seem to get the fan base excited... or maybe more excited than they already are...
They have a bunch of money tied up in remaining the "pac-12." I don't remember all of the details, but they lose out on a lot of money if they don't invite teams to leave their conference and join the pac-12 in the immediate future, if my memory is right.
TBH, I'm not even sure they know what they want at this point. They seem to change their minds on the future every few months
Not saying its the right decision or even feasible ... but seems like a merger might solve that issue by using consolidated assets... some more valuable than others... I certainly don't have the answer but I do know that the Griz have outgrown the likes of NC and PSU (and their HS stadiums). A stronger realignment of teams to form a better conference with an old school regional rival or two thrown into the mix would be refreshing. I've got no desire to start planning trips to see New Mexico St. but would love it if the Griz were in Pullman every other year!
We have outgrown the likes of NC and PSU. I agree. Though I don't know we have outgrown the likes of the Dakotas, MSU, etc. I'd love it if we could go the Snow Bowl route. But for the Pac (1)2, they don't really care what we have outgrown. The Mountain West has "bigger name" schools that have gotten more exposure nationally over a longer period of time. They have seemed like that is the merger they want.
You're not wrong at all. I liked the idea they floated of adding 8-10 Mountain West teams to the Pac, then backfilling the Mountain West and creating a relegation model. That would be a lot of fun, though I'm not sure how you would ever make it palatable to all the schools involved. They seem to have dropped that thought quickly.

I think OSU/WSU either strips the MWC of 6 football schools or finds a way to join one of the other Big FBS conferences. The path for UM is if the remaining MWC schools invite them to maintain the conference. I see no scenario that UM gets into a conference with OSU/WSU.
I used to feel that way until Rutgers and USC ended up in the same conference! That aside I do think its more of wishful thinking but teams that are showing more of an upward trajectory (fan base , attendance, tradition, facilities) have a lot more to offer and are a much stronger consideration than they have been in the past. It's a new reality that something will/has to change and those who pull back a bit and realize what will work in the long term will reap that success... and no its not just about media money which of course still plays a huge factor.
