Griz have no clue how to finish off teams

You do realize this happens to basically every team in the country every year, right? Particularly on the road. In fact Baylor (#2 ranked nationally if you aren't aware) led by 13 in the 2nd half today and lost.

Not from my perspective, and I have family that is a division 1 coach, and played in Final 4. Once or twice sure, but Grizzlies have made a habit of not being able to step on the gas and finish off teams this year. Especially as of late. Even TD has mentioned this in his recent post game interviews. Not necessarily using the same language but clearly the same idea.

I’m stunned how few people understand the dynamics of college bb.

Stick to tennis. I’m guessing you’re including Travis in your remarks since he mentioned the same thing Thursday night. Good to know you think he doesn’t understand the dynamics of basketball.

TDC said he was disappointed the GRIZ didn’t put a team away. That’s a considerably different conversation than “it happens regularly in college BB”.

Perhaps you should put the shovel down and stop digging for once, Digger.

I said nothing about it happens regularly in basketball. I said the Griz have had a hard time putting teams away, and letting them get back into games. Travis said the same thing.

Unless your dynamics comment was directed towards Hoopswatcher and not me.

Yeah and my roommates step Dad was Richie Powers (long time NBA ref) and I played hoops in HS with a guy that owned an NBA team (Joe Maloof). It's college hoops, all teams have struggles finishing teams off on the road so the Griz aren't alone. I also heard Travis talking about it and agree that they can play the clock too much trying to hold a lead. Just thought you seem to imply it's unusual and rare in the college game. If not we don't really disagree so no worries.

That was a fun game to watch. I loved Samuelson's post moves but every time I see him do that I wonder what could have been if he had stayed all four years. It was the same when he was a freshman. He would make a move that you thought would get swatted but he is so good at using his body to create space and has excellent touch. He's pretty much the Big Fundamental of the BSC.

Beyond that, I really like Coach Katz. Not sure if he is on the hot seat but there were signs in the crowd to the effect of him possibly being let go but the crowd wanted him to be retained. I think he does a good job in a tough position. He really gets a lot out of his kids and it sure looks like the players really love him.

Good win for the Griz! Can't wait for this next week of games! Gonna be great!

Just for your info...Katz was going to be interviewed for the San Jose St job back in '17 which would have paid $400k per for 5 years...Our AD came to Katz and promised an extention for 6 years at $300k per...several times since, both the AD and the Prez has repeated this offer but have never offered up the actual contract to sign so Katz is in his last year of his previous contract still waiting for the promised extention to come through....that's why the demonstrations for Katz...He has done a great job without much to work with for the last 12 years...graduated 38 out of 39 players, put the school on the high recognition list for APR by the NCAA (the only public school in California to ever receive this and Sac St has done it 3 straight years...that includes Cal-Berkeley), achieved the best records in D1 that Sac has ever had (actually the top 4 season records ever) and all the while the school cut his automobile stipend, telephone stipend and did very little advertising of the basketball games on campus at all....Really a poor situation for the student athletes on the Bball team....The AD, Mark Orr, seems to be all-in on football and to hell with everything else (I think he's looking to move up riding the football success)....

Seems pretty clear that he’s doing a good job and kids like him. I hope you guys are able to retain him.

How much actual advertising does one need to do to get 300 people to fill the gym?

That is not the point AZ....point is, if you are a basketball player at Sac St. and it's the end of December and the last football game was played almost a month ago and all you see are posters and signs for the football team, wouldn't that make you feel a bit low on the totem pole? If it happened at Montana, I'm sure you may have a different opinion...Lack of support from the administration doesn't help any athletic program anywhere, let alone the attitude of a young man or woman putting a hell of a lot of time and effort into a sport....BTW, there were almost 1,200 in that 300 capacity gym on Saturday...We don't make excuses for our lack of facilities but if we had your facilities you probably would have to find players somewhere else than in California....

You are right, I think. Sac State remains competitive even with sub par facilities and that is a tribute to its coaching staff and small group of previous players. Cal State Northridge is in the exact same position but they had the good sense to drop football in a town with UCLA and USC. Their gym is about equal to Sacto's. But, for the past decade CSUN has not been much of a factor in basketball. If either Sacto or Northridge built a facility like Cal State Long Beach, UM and others would be having a lot of trouble recruiting in that area. So, I like things as they are.

Just bustin’ Your balls, statesman. And besides, 600 of those 1200 were Griz fans. :D 8-)

I don't believe Montana spends more than one fifth the amount on advertising basketball that the do on advertising football...but, then again it's probably all relative being the basketball Arena seats about a fifth of what the football stadium does and we can't fill the arena even half full except when we trounce some kittens...
To boost attendance our last 3 home games are 2 bucks a ticket and that's not going to buy much advertising

Yet we’re number one* in attendance in the bsc.

* NO one believes Weber’s attendance numbers, not even their own fans.
