GRIZ/Sac thread

Wow, what a game! Not pretty, but we will take it. Cherry's defense was huge this game, now only if his FT shooting would be huge. No inside game whatsover, scoring or rebounding. We again struggled from the perimeter. That is a game most teams lose that game. Bring on the CATS!!!!!

3-8 by cherry yuck. But stellar game otherwise. Two Huge steals under a minute. win without heart burn wouldn't be a win.

Cherry is a great player. But he's GOT to learn to shoot FTs. The way he can drive, he's going to shoot a TON of them in his career.

Lord,
Please prepare the Bobcats for the buttwhoopin they are about to receive,

If he could get his average up to about 80, that might be the difference in 4-5 wins per year. Games are won in the last 2-3 minutes.

Cherry could average 2 plus steals per game. He may be in BSC play. As frustrated as we are with his FT shooting, I am thankful for it. If he were a good FT shooter, he would be playing PAC-10 ball. Now that he is here, we need his FT shooting to come around. Honestly, he has PAC 10 talent. We are damn lucky to have gotten him. His shooting has to improve with time.

He has 15 steals in 7 conference games. Just over 2 per game. The last 3 games he has 11 steals, almost 4 per game. AMAZING!

I would point this out, we did win a game in the last minute. We closed one out, not in ideal fashion, but we got a win.

Good point, 24. It wasn't exactly the way you'd like to finish, but at least the Griz DID finish for a change. And seriously, road wins are difficult and we'll take this one.'

And the good news is, we'll get another one next week in Bozoville.

Any win on the road in Big Sky play is a great win but what happened to BQ? He was almost a non factor in this game. We need ya big fella to be a force for the rest of the conference season.

Go Griz!

Maul'em!

I don't know how many of you listened to Tinkle in the post-game radio show (radio came back on). His main criticism seemed to be that the big guys didn't do the job. My sense was that they weren't doing the job offensively because the ball wasn't getting into them.

And again, I have to ask, why do McGillis and Staudacher get to many minutes? Staudacher was 2 of 9, and McGillis was off too. Other than Stockton, they have the worst shooting percentages of anyone on the team. They can't create shots, they aren't great defenders. Am I missing something?

Offensively, we made 0 effort to get him the ball in position, and they were doubling him most of the game. Their coach did what I would do every game against the GRIZ until they can prove we can shoot 40% from 3, double Qvale down low, deny Stauds the ball, and do your best on AJ.

Seriously, have you seen enough perimeter shooting consistency to actually be that concerned about it when the game starts? However, if they are hitting early, you better prepare your team for a long night. With the GRIZ defense, they can blow out anyone when the offense does its part.

Didn't sound like Tinks was real happy with the effort from the Bigs tonight. I assumed that the team just wasn't looking for them, but perhaps they just weren't working hard to get open. No matter what the problem is, we gotta get it fixed. Montana will only be successful if they can get the ball inside.

I agree with McGillis. He is not performing well, and should only get spot minutes. Offensively, I would take Ward over him. Ward though is not ready defensively yet, and McGillis is very good defensively. Stauds is a tougher call, his defense and effort is always solid, he takes care of the ball, and when he is on this team is tough to beat.

I think the GRIZ should rotate Stauds, Young, and Taylor equal minutes in the 1st half. Find who is on their game, and stick with whomever that is in the 2nd half. Coming into the Sac game, Stauds was shooting near or over 50% from 3 in conference play. Hard to not give minutes with that kind of shooting. Stauds will shoot well 2 out of 3 games by the looks of it now.

Frustrating--My only info comes from what was posted here in regard to the game. I can understand and agree with the comments on McGillis and Staudacher, but if Quale wasn't getting the ball, I'm certain its not because he didn't want it.. If he was double teamed, its up to the coaches to run screens to get him free..If we don't take advantage of his height and skill potential, we are loseing a great deal.. Players like him don't come along often, and it seems we should be doing everything possible to make him a huge factor.. Not sure of the box scores, but most coaches believe that someone of his caliber should easily get 10 points a game just off offensive putbacks..I keep hoping the coaching will develpe faster than our talent level, but think its neck and neck right now...no --talent is ahead by a length....
