GRIZ/SAC game thread

Gregory, Jamar and DeShields finish the game in double figures.

Gregory had 18 points (6 3 pointers), 2 rebounds, 2 assists.
Jamar had 10 points, 4 rebounds, 4 assists and a block
DeShields had 10 points, 5 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal.
Dunn had 7 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 steals
Weisner had 7 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist and a steal
Kemp had 5 points, 1 rebound
Bradshaw had 5 points and a steal
Martin had 4 points, 4 rebounds, and a blocked shot
Gfeller had 2 points, 2 assists
Lopez had 2 points and a rebound
Hutch didn't score and didn't play much though I don't think.

Second game in a row DeShields was the leading rebounder (13 points, 8 rebounds against MSU). Very nice having good rebounding guards out there like him, Dunn, Gregory and Jamar of course.

Hitting stride at the right time of the season. But, its a catch 22. Win the tourney and draw a number 1 or 2 seed in the dance. I can't take another "Syracuse" like last year.

Gregory had a great game, and set the pace early for the Griz.

Solid performances from many. Andy did some good defensive work, but neither he nor Hutch got the time they should have had. Its still about the kids and not the points, and I think they could have had more time.

Couldn't see this one live, so can't wait for it to be up on BSTV.

This was a big win. Sac had been 10-1 at home this year (and unbeaten in BSC play). Now, with a win Saturday, the Griz are assured of no worse than 2nd place, and can tie weebs for the title with a win and weebs loss. NAU, however, can grab 2nd with a win over the Griz, so Saturday is another must win.

And while Weber will host, they simply cannot feel real good about things. They aren't playing good basketball, and Tinks seems to have Rahe's number in big games.

There is no doubt who the hottest team playing the best basketball is right now. And they just happen to wear Maroon!!

GO GRIZ!!!!

I think the bloom may be off the Rahe rose. Weebs clearly has the best front court talent in the league with Tresnak, Bolomboy and Berry and it's not even close.

I'd drool if we had even one front court player with their talent. Tis what it is, but one would think Weebs should have run away with the title this year.

While they do have the most talent it seems in the post, I sure as hell wouldn't swap our guards and wings with any team in the Big Sky. I'd take the group of Jamar, Gregory, DeShields and Dunn any day of the week over the group of Berry, Senglin, Gittens and Richardson. No smack intended towards those 4, just my opinion on it.

In the post Tresnak and Bolomboy have a tendency to disappear in games at least offensively. Bolomboy always gets his rebounds though at least. Tresnak could have 2 points one game then 23 the next. That's not smack against those two either... often they just don't get the ball down low and Weber starts to just rely completely on Berry or one of their guards to make something happen out there (like when a team zones them).

Teams have also figured out that if you press Weber they have difficulty breaking the press. If they do break it, zone them and their offense seems to have no answer for it most of the time. Their guards (as talented as they are) do not seem to be very good at penetrating or attacking the gaps in a zone.

Tinkle has used Gregory to help break a zone multiple times this year by sticking Gregory at the high post (using him kind of like how he used Selvig). Gregory can shoot from there, is quick enough to get around the post that comes up to help out, and of course is a great passer. It worked pretty well to get the Griz out of a funk when we weren't doing anything offensively against a good zone. That's one thing I see a lot of complaining about over on the Weber board... no real adjustments (especially against the press and zone) by Weber.

They've lost 4 of their last 6, so as loaded with talent as they are they are struggling big time right now. I hope it continues into the tournament! :)

Listening to the end of the PSU/Weber game, did anyone else do a double take when the announcer kept saying the PSU player would go to the line for a one-on-one? after hearing him say it I think it is a great concept - the fouled player gets the ball at the free throw line, the player who fouled starts in the Charge Circle, and they go one-on-one hockey shoot-out style instead of a free throw.

I like it! Eddie Shore, old time hockey!
