GRIZ run D verses Cal Poly

We all know the key to this game will be keeping Cal Poly's run game in check. What do you feel are realistic expectations for our defense? Having Takai back is huge in helping keep them in check. I like our chances if we can hold them to under 200 yards rushing.

Speedy linebackers and disciplined defenses eat triple options up. If anyone matches up to stop the Cal Poly option attack we do... The qb should be picking himself up off the ground every single time he runs the option.
 
Broken record I am....STOP THE DAMN DIVE :twisted: Takai and Rehm should have a good day :thumb: limiting them on 1st down will really help and yes Brown should be dealt with on a regular basis. Tough task ahead but I feel good about our chances.

I agree, if they could do that.
Looking at last week
Davis #89 in rushing offense
Davis averages 137 a game, and that is what they rushed for against the Griz
Davis had 31 carries when they average 28.

Last week #85 Sac State, who gives up 194 rushing yards a game, allowed Cal Poly 393 rushing yards. The #35 Griz allows 145 yards rushing per game.

So I will say the Griz give up right around 300, against the #1 rushing offense, which is 10% below their average.
 
I feel that our LB's can hang with these guys. We have the speed to contain the end. Gamboa will have a big day.
 
This'll be one of those games were Poly's system will probably guarantee they "get their stats" - it's just how bad they let those yards beat us.

1. Can we hold them to a few first downs but then punts?

2. Remember they don't really attempt fieldgoals - where the defense can really make CPSLO pay is when it's 4th and 2 or 3 and the rush D stuffs them and forces a turnover on downs.

I'd bet Poly probably rushes for 200 - 250 yards even in a "great" game by our defense, or 250-300 or (ugh) maybe more if it's not the best game for our defense.
 
Our defensive backfield is in a bit of trouble. #31 Whitted has shoulder problems and can't tackle like he normally does. Noted last week. Others were nursing various problems.
Our D line will need to sub in fresh players to keep them fresh.

Our key will also be on offense if we can sustain drives keeping our defense off the field. 3 and outs are game killers. Time to see a fake punt on fourth down! Same with field goals fake one as it's about time.

Give Jordy the green light to take off and run. I hope he gains 30/40 yards on the ground running. If that happens we win the game.
