Griz Rumor: to 1-A

My God..
You guys can be so negative " we can't compete" I am glad you do not lead the way. If I was a kid on this team I would think man I can't belive how some of these fans think we could not compete. I bet everyone of them would love a shot at playing Fresno State and Boise and they DO belive they could run with them.. You are basically saying we want to recruit all the Montana kids we can but yah they can not compete on a higher level. I say BS to that.
Maybe for the sake of the "we have to win every game" crowd we should stay in our little box and never look to step out side of it to better this program. OR MAYBE we should go to D-II so we can win every game 55 to 7. Would that make the keep it safe crowd feeling good?
Ahh I feel better and that my :twocents:

just the reality of the situation...

where would you like to play???

We get to go 1-A! We go 1-10! Our attendance dips tremendously! Exactly what is exciting about the proposed move to 1-A football?

Your simplistic post could be countered in kind.

To insure the maximum number of victories and attendance the Griz should drop down a division or two. Winning every single game ………… THAT will be exciting?

I see where you were trying to go with your post, however it does not discredit my statement at all. The situation is simple. In division 1-AA we are guaranteed a chance to compete for our conference championship year in and year out, as well as a national championship. This is the major draw of Montana football, and I would like for you to show me one division 1-A team's schedule this year where you believe we have a very legitimite shot of going over .500 in. I am not saying the Montana players are not good players in the least, or that we would get destroyed by all 1-teams. I am just saying we would struggle to actually win games and that is fact.

Not only would we struggle to win games but once we start losing half the time then the attendance drops down and then all of a sudden we are in debt and have a 10-15 year period where we have to make money somehow. Of course we could do what boise is doing right now but risk/reward IMO is not worth it :twocents:

We would compete in 1A. We would probably improve in the first few years and get into a bowl game. Whoop de frickin do, bowl games suck unwashed ass.

If 1A gets a playoff system, then lets bail. Until then keep it right here where we have a chance to win National Championships.

Idaho has finished in the black every year since going I-A. But don't take my word for it go to Vandel Venue and ask them. Here's the address for you. Their attendance is still good too, I think 16,000 something this year. Maybe Idaho folks have more backbone than the Montanan's that will bail on the Griz.

 haha idaho is so bad...

The point is they support their team through thick and thin and you guys act like Montana folk are fickle.

Go to 3-4 Idaho games in a row and tell me there are 16,000 in that stadium. I call BS on that number, and yes I am saying they are lying if they post that number on their website.

There may be 16,000 total in 3-4games, I would buy that.

Please LORD, let this idea of the Griz going to IA die a horrid, thankless, and lonely death already..... :lame:

I bet we could kick some ass in the Sun Belt Conference.

No arguement here but do we really want to be the best team in the worst conference? Could you tell me who won the SunBelt title this year without looking it up. I wouldnt even like to see us get into a conference like the WAC, National Championships are better than bowl games :twocents:

We can't let a good thread like this die. Especially when there'e a hot debate of Idaho eventually being good, and UM competing in the Sun Belt.

Listen, I'm mixed on this whole moving up thing. But it's a little short-sighted to compare this Griz team to current I-As. If we moved up, we'd have 22 more scholarships at our disposal which is bound to make us more competitive. Will we ever compete with the BCS conferences? No. Could we become a Boise or Fresno. Of course. Could we become an Idaho? Of course. But with 22 more athletes, we'd be better able to compete.

As I've posted before, my fear is that eventually, this choice will be taken from us. I just don't believe the NCAA is committed to I-AA football, and I think the day is coming when it will be a choice between moving up (I-A) or moving down (DII). If that does happen, if those were the only options, I'd support moving up 100%.

EG,

I don't think we will be called 1AA in the near future, but we aren't going to be DII that is for sure. There are going to be more teams like Utah State, Idaho, North Texas to name a few that can't cut it at the D1 level. The NCAA is gearing up for the haves and the have nots. The BCS types will be fine, the others are going to go by the wayside as far as D1 status. I think this will make up a sub level D1 arena with more teams and better competition. We are never going to be one of the big boys, but I sure wouldn't mind adding some of the smaller D1 programs to the mix.
