griz recruiting

Shaunte is out of control and a MAJOR source of turnovers...I'm confused at what skill you see, she can't shoot, picks her dribble up in terrible positions (something that Selvig is continually yelling at her not to do during practice, it hasn't sunk it yet I guess), and dribbles into the middle of the lane with nowhere to go. I guess she could be considered a skilled dribbler; just not a smart one.

I think that she does bring a lot of energy, however I felt that a lot of it was false hustle, meaning she was working really hard at doing absolutely nothing of benefit. Other than that, I was incredibly frustrated with her decision making as a point guard. She's made some interesting defensive decisions, leaving hot shooters, gambling at bad times, etc... these are other things that drove her teammates(I've talked to a few) completely nuts. Judging by the way Selvig ripped her a couple times during games I'm guessing he wasn't completely happy with these lapses either.

The good news? The off-season is here!!! She will have a great year next year as long as she works on her game this summer.

She did have a good game against PSU in the last regular season game.

I have to agree with all of you about Shaunte. She has turned the ball over more often than anybody else on the team with regard to turnovers per minute. She has turned the ball over at a rate of 1turnover for 7.8 minutes of playing time. Compare that with Mandy who has turned it over at a rate of 1 turnover per 12.3 minutes, big difference. But, she has improved through the season. At one point in early conference or end of non-conference, Shaunte had 1 turnover for every 6 minutes. You also have to consider she hasn't played any competitive basketball for two years before joining the Lady Griz. You also have to consider that a lot of her minutes were during mop up playing with the scrubs when a lot of turnovers just happen. Her decision making also improved. I did notice a lot of what Hamilton Grizzly said about her driving into the key with nowhere to go. But, she did that less often near the end of the season. Sbe did do it against Pittsburgh, though.

but, she has also provided spark because of her athleticism.

She is still likely to be the point guard next year. Unless Robin can find a point guard that can start right away. Or Ashley Ferda's knee heels real quickly from her ACL and can play point. But, judging how long it really took Skyla Sisco to recover from her ACL, that's both physically and mentally, I don't see Ashley getting back to 100% until her sophomore year. So, it is either Shaunte or a new point guard, or Ferda with a knee that still may not be 100%.
