Actually, Ellis is strictly a 1. Matt plays both 1 and 2. I think ultimately, Swift will play 1,2 or 3. We look pretty solid at the 3 next year with Dlouhy and Mayes.

This Glasser kid seems pretty sweet, though. I saw on SI.com that his high school was ranked in the top ten programs in the nation, and this kid is the first in school history to net 1,000 points and 500 assists. This kid sounds like an amazing passer, and with big guys like Straight, Hasquet, Van Vliet, and Vanderjagt coming up, a great assist man would be an asset.

Hopefully we can keep our current team intact, but if someone on the team has decided to bail, than hopefully we can fill his spot with the best guy possible.

I can't see Swift leaving as the two and three positions are the only positions with any doubt whatsoever. He will get time if he's as talented as Krysko says. I'm still not sold on Mayes and think Swift could start along with Ellis, Dhouly, hasquet and Strait. Martin would obviously play a lot as well, but I just like what Ellis brings to the PT guard position.

It's been tossed around on this site. Not Matt Martin specifically, but someone once said that there is a "gentlemen's agreement that somebody on the team won't be returning" or something like that, and people were just speculating that it might possibly be Martin.

On the last KGVO Coach's Show, Tinkle said Hasquet would play some small fwd next year. This makes sense given Jordan's great outside shot and the load of talent we have at the post positions.

the remarkable thing about the griz run this year was, most of the team was playing out of position. strait was a power forward playing center; hasquet a three playing the four; dhlouy a two playing at three. for all his talent, i'm not sure virgil matthews was best suited at point. given the dearth of bodies up front after the seyfert injury, the kids pretty much had to make do. that they adjusted and made it to the round of 32 was quite an accomplishment.

next year, we'll have more flexibility, since van vliet is a true center, and chase a bona fide four. i hope we stick swift at two and leave him there; i don't see him as a point guard. i'm also hoping rundles can step right in and play the point. remember, you can never have enough point guards, as we're reminded every year at the big dance. i'd recruit one every year if i were the coach.

I hope Rundles redshirts and I'm a little concerned about Hasquet at the three defensively. He may have a tough time guarding at that position. I would like to see Chavez play some more three. He is a tad quicker and the physical play inside is not his strength on the defensive end.

I agree that Strait is more of a power forward, but can't see him moving out of the center position next year unless Val Vilet is further along than I thought. I think our most effective starting lineup next year will be:
C - Strait
PF - Chavez
SF - Hasquet
SG - Doughly
PG - Martin

The starting lineup will most likely be the same to start the season next year, but I'm sure some experimentation will go on throughout the year.

C - Strait

PG - Ellis

You go with experience early. Maybe Mayes or Swift will take over that 2 position by the end of the year. From what I've heard and seen up to this point, this would be a guess at the final starting lineup:

SG - Dlouhy
PG - Ellis/Martin

I heard Matt was unhappy with his playing time during the season, but in the playoffs and at the NCAA tourney he realized he is a valuable part of the Griz and will be even more valued next year.

He is staying. :thumb:
