Griz QB? What's shaping up so far?

I love this: “His JC coach said “I have 29 years of college coaching experience and he’s one of the best pure passers I’ve been around,” Yelverton said. “He has a big arm, is very accurate and can make every throw on the field. He's a very cerebral kid and makes great decisions.”

Excellent points. I appreciate you pointing that out.
Dude is a Timex.
That’s my main concern with Ah Yat. He will likely be similar to most collegiate athletes. They take pretty big strides in their junior and senior years. The game slows down for them a bit and they fully grasp the system they are playing within. I think Ah Yat could have a very solid year if he stays healthy. That’s a big if.

I keep hearing this, but I think it is recency bias. Out of all the years that Hauck has coached, I only remember three where the QB was not named before the season started. And one of those years where it took a while to decide we went to the national championship.
For a school where only a national championship will satisfy the fan base, this is a sad thread. When you've got three candidates, and several here saying of a different one, "He's my guy!", you really don't have any guy.

Not saying one can't emerge. But to go into the season with championship hopes and no established star at the most important position on the field, you don't want to be relying on hope, luck and good fortune. Give me the team returning its All-American QB.

Why is it such a "big if"? Its the natural progression of an athlete. We saw quite a bit last season to be confident in this progression. He played great at times, in bigger games. Got hurt and missed time on 2 different occasions. This is his sophomore season, but his true frosh year he was #2 on the depth at times, and saw action in some big games (griz cat as an example). This season most likely will be a big jump. He's matured, from all accounts on social media pictures hes grown, and hes got a full fall camp ahead of him. If hes healthy, he's our guy, and if hes healthy and Jensen wins it, its because he went and took it.

NDSU fans were highly critical of Cam Miller a couple years ago. Things are different now with transfer portal. Who has a returning All-American QB? That guy is now a Hawkeye. I think we are in a whole new world. Players can see someone like Cam Ward and how his play in FCS led to huge opportunities. Why did NDSU and SDSU win championships in FCS when the #1 pick in NFL draft didn’t ? Dominate offensive lines and defenses.

I, personally, don't think the Griz need an All-American QB. We just need a QB that can manage the game. We have 2 QBs that can do that. Our RBs and OL will be the stars this year. Our "gadget guy", Wortham, will throw a wrench into how teams defend our offense. The Griz will make a deep run in the playoffs this season.

Based on your statement, South Dakota is the clear favorite in the MVFC.

Don’t disagree with you, but what team in the FCS has that right now? SDSU? Nope. Bobcant’s. Nope. NDSU? Nope.

There is no rule prohibiting the clear #1 quarterback from emerging during fall camp or during the season.

I just hope we don't overuse Wortham @ QB and get him hurt behind center. I agree he has tremendous talent and speed, but what he doesn't have is size--5-9, 177 pounds. So my hope is we use him in some wildcat but mainly in the slot and KR and PR.
Like the descriptions/observations for this player and his fit. Should be a good one to watch, fits well with Hauck's offense/spec team dynamism.

I wish AhYat the best and if he earns the starting position fair and square, so be it.
This ought to be his year to show us his fullest development, he takes out of pocket risks, has good enough field vision, but on those run choices...takes some vicious hits!

Well, good news then! Since both of last year's All-American QBs now play for the Raiders, I guess things are still wide open. ;)

No disrespect intended, but this is the circular logic I hear from a lot of the Griz fanbase. "We want a multi-year starter that becomes an All-American, but Ah Yat wasn't an All American yet as a freshman so he isn't good enough, but don't bring in a transfer because we need a long term starter." It is a lot of self immolation. We have a young QB who showed some serious flashes of potential but needs to grow, like any young FCS QB. We have Jensen, who has been coached by the best possible QB coaching team in the FBS and who has also shown he can really toss the ball. We also have a kid from Idaho who was a high school stud and has been fighting it out to show he belongs at this level, and sounds like he has really impressed a lot of people.

We may very well have a championship caliber QB, we just don't know who it is yet. The thread would be a lot more sad if nobody thought they had a guy.

Here' some spin, SDSU-(out door stadium, indoor practice facil), NDSU-(dome stadium, indoor practice facil), UM (outdoor stadium, *new indoor practice facil), MSU-(outdoor stadium, *building indoor practice facil). Hope we gain some edge "return on investment", as we should with our indoor practice facil!!!
