GRIZ/PSU game thread

The reason PSU got so many offensive rebs is that qvale, strait, etc continually had to help when the PSU guard blew by his guy and down the lane. Pretty hard to block a guy out when you are moving to the open guy with the ball.

Then we need to switch on the screens or fight through them. We can't just throw up our hands and say, "Wow. Nice Screen."

2 points.

How can Martin get only 17 minutes? He single-handedly brings the team back into the game in the first half. He scores 15 and 4-4 shooting, including 3-3 from 3-pt. range, in the first half. He has 5 assists for the game--which is equal to the total of the other 3 guards combined. He's 4-4 from the freethrow line, taking 4 of the teams 7 freethrows. No turnovers. He gets 1 shot in the second half. I didn't see or listen to the game, but this looks funny to me.

As someone else has mentioned, how does our big lineup get outrebounded 24-32 and 3-8 on the offensive glass?

We played Martin very tight in the second half to limit his looks at the basket.

That's two years in a row that Martin has come in and been deadly from the outside when you guys really need it. I don't follow his stats other than when we play him, but that is one role player that I'd love to see come off of our bench.

...if losing close games..builds character...
...this team could be very dangerous...
...come tournament time...
...never say die...

...never...

you can praise the guards offense, but the guard defense is horrible. Qvale baled out the guards numerous times with blocks. but can any of them actually play defense

After watching Rundles talk on Q2 the other night I could probably predict end of game 'smart' play is just not on his menu :) Also, fouling in the backcourt with the score tied and PSU in the bonus probably isn't the smartest play either. You can't do those things at the end of close games and expect to win.

From a talent standpoint UM should be a top team in the conference.

That's complete hogwash. This team has some talent, but top to bottom, it's not real strong. We have no athleticism and nobody who plays above the rim like we've had in past seasons.

That said, we could easily sneak into the Big Dance, assuming we make the Big Sky Tourney. It's amazing what good shooting can do for an unathletic team.

Except when that shooting goes bad.

After Martin swished one of his threes and then went to the bench, Glanville shook his head and asked why the coach would take him out. Told it might be for defensive reasons, Glanville delivered the line of the night:

"You don't ask Liberace to carry the piano."
