Wayne...

I'll call him Wayne, because 'Tinkle' or 'Tinks' is just plain wrong.

I like the way that Wayne controls himself. Larry was a nightmare with the throwing of the clipboard.

Just some cents from someone outside the circle...

I only refer to him as Tinks since that is all I have ever called him since he played. I am curious what your impressions of the game where since I assume you were there. It seemed from listening to it the refs were calling it pretty tight. Do you think that was because of last season?

Grizbacker,

Yes, I was there... I do think that the refs were pretty tight due to what happened last year. They were consistant for the most part on both ends of the floor, so I can't really get on them too much.

Here are some random thoughts regarding the game...

UM was really focused on shutting down Kamara early on. He couldn't even get open to get the ball let alone an open three point shot. This caused Kamara to pick up some fouls away from the ball on defense and sent him to the bench.

UM made some good adjustments at the half to stop the penetration that had led to a bunch of PSU lay ups in the first half. I think if Hasquet wasn't in foul trouble, he'd have put in over twenty. He's pretty good. What year is Matt Martin? I like the looks of him.

Overall, it was a good game. I thought we'd pull it out, but when we miss free throws down the stretch, you're not going to pull out the close ones in BSC play. Also, I think this came down to who moved the ball better. UM moved it better than PSU last night and that's the difference between 1-0 and 0-1...

I was surprised your team missed the FT's since PSU was the leading FT shooting team in the BSC going into the game. The Griz have a couple liabilities at the line, most notably Strait. When a player is 10% higher from the field than the FT line it won't be long before teams start fouling him until he converts a better percentage. He is one of the better shooters in the nation from the field. He was pretty good in HS, so he either has developed a bad habit in his mechanics, or it is mental, or a combo.

Rundles is a true freshman and getting better each game. The Griz are lucky they signed him early or they may not have had a shot at him. Martin is an enigma. He is a Junior and you just never know what you are going to get from him. He can look like an All Conference performer one game and an NAIA candidate the next. If he gets the first shot down he seems to relax and good things happen. When he misses a few it affects his whole game.

The BSC is going to be fun to watch this season as I think the league is evenly matched. MSU had a huge upset last night, but Huse is a good Coach somaybe they will get on a roll, or they could fall back in the pack. They don't have much depth which could hurt them. EWU relies heavily on Stuckey and Butorac. ISU has some good talent. NAU is loaded and appears to have added some firepower. I see one of their new guys had 27 last night while Sir only had 4. Sir led the nation in 3 pt % last season so NAU still looks like the team to beat in my opinion. WSU and SAC are unpredictable.
