Griz playoff attendence

The biggest gap for playoffs are the 19,000 season ticket holders who spent their budget on the regular season tickets and may be footballed out for the year, especially for 16 deg December games against opponents they have never heard of. I will be surprised if we make 20,000, particularly since there will be almost no CC fans.

Season ticket holder here and I'd have to be in the hospital to miss a Griz playoff game...."footballed out" NEVER.

I wish I could be as optomistic as others, but I don't see attendance rising above 22,000. I've been going to playoff games since 1993 and I've never seen the trend change. I think, IF, the last expansion wouldn't have happened then 22,000 would be a really good sized playoff crowd, but 26,000-plus is just pushing it too far for the playoffs. Even the greatest FCS game ever played was 2,000 short of a sellout. As others have mentioned though, some of the single loudest games in Wash-Griz history have been modest-sized playoff crowds. My expectation is the same this Saturday. The crowd will be into it, and oh yeah, I will of course be there. Wouldn't miss it.

I am so stoked to be going to the game. Playoff fans seem to be so much more enthusiastic. I know it hasn't been that long ago but it seems like ages for this spoiled griz fan to witness tthe griz whoop some southern butt in the greatest venue in Montana. I have no idea how anybody is going to be able to concentrate on work when all of us are looking toward Montana's favorite team play this Saturday. Go Griz!

Still blows me away that the App State game didn't have 26,000+. But the house was ROCKIN (literally) that night. We sit in the 200 level and the stadium was actually moving that night you could feel it.AMAZING game.

Same here, but check out all the vacant seats in the season ticket holder areas, even though when not taken they are offered to the public.

During the regular season, season ticket no-shows are still counted as tickets sold. It is not unusual to see a multitude of empty seats in a "sold out" game. However, in the playoffs, the seats need to be spoken for and paid above and beyond the season ticket charge, so any seats left vacant in these areas cannot be counted as tickets sold. So we could have as many butts in the seats for a playoff game that we have for a regular season game, but have a lower attendance, which is measured as tickets sold.

Yea, magic math. The actual attendance at the Weber State game is a prime example of what you talked about. I think they announced something like 25,000 but in reality there were probably only 19-20,000 butts in seats. :-(

I hope that other people will purchase any season tickets not claimed by tomorrow and attend.

We were thinking 20 to 21 but lots of empty seats. We are bringing 4 that don't go during the season, we brought 8 against UNI and they had a blast and made a lot of noise.

Hopefully we get 22 or 23, in any case those that will be there WANT to be there so it should be plenty loud...and we know it's going to be cold. :thumb:

Agreed. Against Central Arkansas in 2011 (December 3rd) we had about 22,000 in the seats. I'd bet we are a bit under that for the Coastal Carolina game with the bad weather affecting some people's travel plans. I hope we end up with at least 22,000 but it wouldn't surprise me to see it more around 20-21,000.

Actually, the announced attendance for the Weber State game was 23, 609. I don't know if the theory of empty seats by season ticket holders still counts towards announced attendance is valid anymore either. According to UM officials, the scanners at the entrances are used for the announced attendance figures at each game.

Weather is a real factor for some. We come from Seattle, and Horizon wants over $600 per person to fly in. Throw in 2 or 3 hotel nights, meals and a LOT of beer money, and we're talking real money, likely a $2500 trip. That's tough to swallow.

So, we're looking at driving. But with storms predicted all week between here and there, our presence is a question. It sucks, but I don't relish spending 11 hours on the road Friday and 11 back on Sunday.

That is commitment, safe travels.

Another example of the criminal prices charged by airlines flying to Missoula.

Coming in from California. Easing onto the weather difference by going to Chicago first :D

My son and I are driving in from Boise, hopefully the storm has made it's way through by the end of the week or it could be an even longer drive.
