Griz passing game

To an outside observer, it looked like Gustafson was way off on some passes. With the uptempo offense, like Oregon, I'm assuming a lot of their pass game is off of reads where the receiver and QB are both reading the defense? Where it looks like Gustafson is way off, it could be the receiver making the wrong read? These kind of things iron themselves out the more they play. I find it hard to believe he was that far off with some of his passes, because he made some absolutely beautiful passes during the game.

Yes. We beat the #1 team in the nation and there's room for much improvement. That's all good news in my book! It's only going to get better!

Go Griz!

Maul'em!

That was the first game of the season with a new system against the #1 team in the nation. Those things will be worked out which should give you a great deal of optimism for the rest of the season. When Gus and receivers are all on the same page it will be very entertaining. That being said....not every play in every game is going to be a work of art. Plus, there will be good defensive moves that will stop some plays. That's football.

Agreed. Gus is a sharp kid, and I'm sure he'll be in the film room dissecting every mistake/miscommunication that happened and figuring out how to fix it.

Dynamic read systems will result in a fair share of silly looking pass plays. The QB and receivers won't always be on the same page. The benefit of this kind of system is that defenders will have a tough time jumping routes -- and get burned like the Henderson TD pass when they try. As the QB and receivers practice together the more they will start to see things the same and the more they will learn one another's tendencies. The best news of all is that what we saw against NDSU should be the worst we see all season and that spells troubles for BSC defenses!

Well, sorta. :thumb:

I know it's only one game, but if you're a fan of MSU/EWU/ISU etc, I don't know how you aren't shitting yourself right now. 544 yards in the first game against NDSU, and with steady improvement along the way...things could get ugly by mid-November.

What I saw is a first year team that is a playoff contender (The playoffs? The playoffs? Yes, the playoffs). That is simply remarkable at any level. The fact they already look like a playoff contender after the first game of the year shows they will only get better. Ergo, the misses are nothing to worry about and actually a great thing for two reasons: 1. Failure is how you learn. 2. The misses were so few that you can legitimately say it will be an upset if we don't make the playoffs. The sky is the limit once again!

That's what I was thinking.

TG and the defense have a lot of work to do this week to atone for the beating they took at SLO last year. I like our chances, but hope the D can make a statement.

I think Yamen Sanders playing close to the line could be a difference maker. Let's see how we use him against SLO

Did you watch the post-game presser? Yamen was one the players panel that answered a few questions, he sounded like a very grounded and intelligent guy. I think we got one of the drop-down gems.
