Griz On the Playoff Bubble: PLAYOFFS still a real possibility in 2016

I go on egriz quite often to read, but have never posted before today.

Many think the Griz have a real chance to get in the playoffs if they take care of business this weekend.

In doing research the Griz only have one win against a team with a winning record, St. Francis. SUU and UNI are at .500 right now. I think NAU will beat SUU at home. UNI vs SDSU will probably be another loss for UNI.

So the Griz will only have one real quality win against a team going to the playoffs. Just wondering what others think when looking at the info below and not just win vs loss. Does the committee take this into consideration?

Here is what I found:
Wins
St Francis 7-3
Northern Iowa 5-5
Southern Utah 5-5
Mississippi Valley State 1-9
Sac State 2-8
ISU 2-8

Combined record of teams beat
22 - 38 or .367

Losses
Cal Poly 6-4
NAU 5-5
EWU 9-1
UNC 6-4

Combined record of teams lost to
26-14 or .650

"Note: In lieu of a final bracket late Saturday night, I will be posting a comprehensive scenario and prediction-based bracket special on Thursday, November 17th."

Tomorrow this above website will have some very good information with scenarios and chances for teams looking to make the FCS playoffs in 2016. (24 team field).

Interested to see what he has tomorrow. The possibility of playing Cal-Poly again is just TOO wierd......

Doesn't Eastern get the auto bid over UND if they are both undefeated due to Sagarin as a tie breaker?

Not that it matters in his bracket just his pick for autobid

Unless Montana or Cal Poly are seeded they wouldn't play. First round teams who played in conference do not match up in the first round

If you are SDSU and you have any chance of hosting a home game you do whatever you have to get one. Sell a few corn fields or cows and put in a huge bid no other team can match. They have a great stadium and should be able to get a really good crowd. Don't risk getting sent to a montana or und for a first round game. Homefield advantage is huge and will help grow excitement for an already good program. After a few years of hosting with great crowds they can get the benefit when on the borderline of making the playoffs. It is even more important playing in the MVFC with Ndsu that you host as many games as possible before being sent to the death dome in fargo. Put the new stdium to use sdsu!

That's correct but nobowls has us in the same bracket. I like our chances if we advance past the first round even if we go to Fargo.

Pretty crazy to think the media had you believing the Griz season was over and now all the sudden the Griz might have their playoff destiny in their hands... still the committee has to choose them but when you look at the other bubble teams, Griz are basically in with a win.

Criteria for the playoffs the committee is really interested in?

"Hutchinson, who is the Morehead State athletic director, said the biggest factors when evaluating a team for the field are overall record, results against Division I opponents, record against other conferences that have automatic qualifiers, head-to-head results against other potential qualifiers, common opponents' records and the Simple Rating System, which quantifies the strength of a team's schedule."

Also of note, Idaho State AD is also on the committee. So is the Northern Iowa AD. Griz have a win on the schedule of one team who for sure is in the playoffs, St. Francis. The win on the road at Northern Iowa (who was #3 at the time) is going to likely be a huge factor. Had UNI won that game and won this weekend they would almost assuredly be in the playoffs... since the Griz won that game and can win this weekend to go 7-4, it tips the playoff bubble scales the other way. In addition, either Cal Poly or Northern Colorado will lose this weekend, this benefits the Griz out of the Big Sky Conference, which is a highly regarded conference. The Griz have been ranked as high as #6 this country, but in the top #25 in every poll the entire season and currently sit at #22 and #21. Thy have a good saragrin ranking and it looks like a good SRS rating when compared to the other bubble teams.

I want the Griz in the playoffs for one reason and one reason only: 1-2 more weeks of practice. I have no delusions of them suddenly hitting a hot streak and winning it all. But any extra practice time is invaluable with this young team.

Its amazing that the top teams in the Big Sky this year are so young. EWU and UND are very young, and it appears the Griz are too...the next few years will be very fun to watch this conference...

However, EWU is losing three out of the best WR group in America. That will be a big hit for them.

True...but has EWU ever had a problem replacing receivers? Heck, just look at what the younger players did when Kupp went down against NDSU, Stiles absolutely abused the NDSU secondary...

Kupp is a one in a lifetime player and he will be impossible to replace, will be nice when they win it all this year though... ;)

Don't kid yourself marceagle, you guys are going to seriously miss your three senior WRs. This year for the Griz is an example. You will miss Kupp for years. Me, not so much.
