There hasn't been any news of it, i don't believe, so maybe he's just sliding out of the rotation.

When yo win a road game, there is no such thing as ugly. You guys have your work cut out for you Dta, but 3 nice wins in a row is a nice surprise. See, that UM grooming Huse got paid off. :thumb:
It was an ugly game, but you're right- a road win is big. Brad got his early 'grooming' under Durham, had a great career as HC at Jamestown, spent some time in grizland, but now is back where he belongs! Cats are coming back!!

We have you to thank, Tinks saw your prediction on BN and cut and pasted it to his laptop as a screensaver. Now he has a virus though
On Paper Northern Colorado looks to be like the best bet in the Big Sky for a road win, despite their record, though, N. Colorado has rolled over for no one! I saw their home game vrs Weber and vrs EWU both on Altitude they are not a push over. Yes I think we are very capable of getting a road win tonight, but it will be a very tough game. I really do not see a blow out. I think we will need to rely on our depth, much like ISU I think N. Colorado does not have much depth past their firs 6.
I also think the Griz will have their handful this Saturday when they play N. Colorado after the grueling NAU trip into Greeley!

I hardly think it is bulliten board worthy. Look the trip into NAU is one of the most grueling trips any basketball team ever has to take. Ask any player they will tell you it is like running an army obsticle course before the game. Then you have to play the game. Winning in Flagstaff is no easy feat only to be compounded when they fiield a good team. It is a great win for the Griz. I only hope the cats have enough legs underthem Saturday.
Seattle Griz Fan said:It is amazing to me that he does not start. What is Wayne's facination with Martin? That guy is a Frontier calibre player, at best. He may be small, but he sure is slow.

The difference in the game was Ellis. He controlled the tempo during crunch time, and ran the offense with patience to get the ball into the hands of the guys who needed to get it.
I was very impressed with Strait and Hasquet. Bot kids played their arses off. But, Ellis was the difference by refusing to allow the Lumberjacks to get the Griz offense rattled as the game came to a close. Then, he steps up and makes 4 crucial foul shots.

Ellis and Rundles should be the starting guards.
Great effort by the Griz in a tough place to win. I was impressed by their poise. They never seemed to panic.
Another mystery is why Chavez does not get more minutes. He nailed the key 3-pointer in the game. His points/minute ratio had to be the best on the team. He should get more PT. Play Martin less, play Chavez more.

Ballhog said:The truth is the Griz are loaded. You could almost platoon two
squads. Its tough to be handed this in transition but I don't
think that the coachs have done a great job handling the
situation. Some observers think that Mayes and Chavez should replace Dilouey and Hasket. Ellis was benched because he spoke
freely of his concerns. I hope it all works out. We can win the tournament again.

Classic Turd Slinger all the way.

I am very impressed and think it's great to hear BE was the factor. I hate listening to these games because you never get a real feel for it. Even watching on TV isn't the same. I love to hear that BE is really being a leader, Griz need this bad. If he can pass what SGF says happened in this game along to Cam that would be spectacular.
I'm not sure what should, if anything, be done with the guard position. We have two very very solid wins playing with about the same rotation so it looks like you stay with the same. I mean, Martin did almost carry the Griz to the WSU victory. He scored 28 points for chrissakes, not sure how you guys can ride him like this when his big game led to a win that may have turned this season around.
As far as Chavy goes, i say keep the minutes about the same. Keep him hungry. He always comes off the bench and plays like his hair is on fire. Tinks just unleashes him when needs be and it gets everyone going, don't want him to settle in and have productivity go down. Keep the big guy on his toes.
Also, will be very interesting to see if Big Dave starts working his way into the rotation.
Zirg said:Martin, Ellis and Rundles is a good trio of guards, who all bring something different to the court. I agree with Griz17 that Tinks has got a great feel for them now, and is utilizing all 3 in the right doses. You need to watch more than 1 game to understand what all 3 bring to the court fully.
Zirg said:While you make some valid points, you've watched 3 games in 3 years. I've seen Martin play about 45 times. I saw him score 28 last week, which is more than any Griz has this year, so I think I (and almost every other poster here) know his abilities better than a once-a-year watcher. Guys look good one game, then not so much in the next. Even Strait had a terrible couple of games. Had you seen one of those games, you'd probably say he needs to be benched too.
Just last week I said the same thing about Martin:if he's not scoring, he's detrimental. Well he has been red-hot especially EARLY in games. 4-4 and 10 points in the first 3 minutes against ISU, then 28 points against Weber earns you a few more starts. Points aren't everyting, but he has the potential to score a lot when he's on.
Rundles has been spectacular some games, and then does nothing (ISU game) in others-a typical freshmen.

Zirg said:mtgrizrule-Nice personal insight about Matt. I love hearing that our Griz are good guys off the court. HOWEVER: I'm glad Kamarr Davis was a good influence on your kid, but he had an ugly incident recenty that has tarnished his reputation as a quality person.
You are right, Martin has a swagger, but that is also what gets him in trouble. He tries to do too much sometimes. He use to bring the ball down the court and put up for an NBA 3-pointer before anyone else on the team touched the ball. That drew the ire of LK, who would yank him right away when he'd miss. He hasn't done that in a long time, so he's learned. You can have swagger, but you gotta be able to harness some self-control too.
His over-all game has improved. He plays within himself. He has a 2 assists/turn ratio which is excellent. His defense has been pass-able too. I've watched that specifically the last 2 home games (after somewhat ripping him), and he's isn't getting burned or taken advantage of as much as he use to. He might not get the steals that Ellis does, and isn't very quick but he stays on his man pretty good. Better than even I have given him credit for. Abdul-Ahad for ISU absolutely abused Rundles in that game. I haven't seen any team abuse Martin in a while. His defense will never stand-out, but he's been able to out-score his guy pretty consistantly.
Rundles also has the swagger going for him big-time, even moreso than Martin. I'd say Rundles has the most swagger of any Griz since maybe Gary Kane. He was so pissed when someone didn't pass it to him when he was wide-open vs. MSU and he was 3-4 from 3-land in that game. He's shooting 47% from 3-land on the year. He needs to shoot more of those, but I digress. I like guys to have swagger and want the ball and to shoot freely IF they are hot. Even the best players are not hot every game. Martin used to have problems identifying when this one and in the ISU, he just kept chucking even when he was missing every shot (badly). He started 4-4, then went 1-8 the rest of the game. He will keep shooting even if he's cold and this is where the coach needs to get him out. We do have options.
Ellis doesn't have overt swagger, but plays with a lot of confidence. It showed in his steals off Durham last year and how scared Durham was of Ellis this year. It showed in his late shots against Weber. It showed in his apparent verbal outburst recently.
All 3 guys wanna play more and that is good, but they gotta buy into what is best for the team. We got a lot of capable players on this team, unlike teams like Idaho State, that are gonna live and die by the same 5 guys every game. Some nights you'll shine, some nights you'll sit. I think we are to where all 3 are getting their chance and providing something unique for Tinkle to utilize and he's doing a great job with them.
