Get us the Eff out of this joke of a conference!!!!!!!!

It isn't a joke conference. It's a very good conference. The piece on Sports Center leads with Gregory bringing the ball all the way down the court and scoring, and mentions that Tinkle came from Montana. The segment is good. It doesn't focus on any confrontation or shoving and doesn't make a big deal of that at all. You need to start thinking before you post, and stop leading with your agenda. Your bias against the conference is pathetic. If you are in fact at the tourney, let me know if you want me to arrange a meeting with you and conference officials.

Good god you're a tool.

Northern Arizona put up a wall between the Montana Griz and the Big Sky championship game.

The Griz ran through it ... along with their coach.

Jordan Gregory's driving layup with 0.4 seconds to play lifted the Griz to a 61-59 win over the Lumberjacks in the semifinals of the Big Sky Conference men's basketball tournament Friday at Dahlberg Arena.

Montana (19-11) will face Eastern Washington (25-8) Saturday at 7 p.m. in the league championship game with a berth in the NCAA Tournament on the line. The game will be televised on ESPNU. Eastern ran past Sacramento State 91-83 in the other semifinal.

After Gregory's winning layup, some fans started to run onto the floor. Play was stopped and the officials determined that because the fans did not interfere with the play on the floor, no technical foul would be assessed against Montana.

Kris Yanku's three-quarter-court heave bounced harmlessly off the backboard.

But then the real fireworks started. When Griz Coach Travis DeCuire went to shake the hand of NAU Coach Jack Murphy, Murphy angrily shook his hand then pointed in DeCuire's chest as the two exchanged words. The players from both teams formed a big scrum, but order was restored, but not before DeCuire celebrated with high fives with a raucous student section.

"I'm not going to go into it," DeCuire said. "I did what I do after every game win or lose. I'm going to shake a man's hand, look him in the eye and tell him 'Good game.' The rest was entertaining."

Murphy was apologetic afterward.

"I'd like to start by apologizing there at the end," he said. "Montana played a fantastic game and I don't want anything to take away from the quality of that game. I thought that Montana played very, very hard and we played hard. ... Obviously at the end of the year like this when everything is on the line and it's a tight game emotions bubble over at times. I want to give Coach DeCuire a big congratulations."

Big Sky Commissioner Doug Fullerton praised the players of both teams for breaking up the confrontation and said there would be no discipline levied against DeCuire. He added that the league is still reviewing the tape to see if discipline is warranted against Murphy.

Gregory said the team appreciates DeCuire's fire.

"From the get-go we've known that he has our backs," said Gregory, who led the Griz with 21 points. "Like he's told us many times before he wouldn't ask us to run through a wall for him, he'd ask us to run through a wall with him. I think that perfectly displays what our team's about."

The Griz needed Gregory's late-game heroics to offset a 26-point performance from NAU sophomore point guard Yanku. Quinton Upshur added 17.

Montana opened a 56-49 lead with 3:32 to play on a put-back by Chris Kemo and two free throws by Mario Dunn.

But the Jacks rallied all the way back to within one, 56-55, after a trey by Yanku with 1:15 to play.

After a timeout, Gregory hit a trey to extend the lead to 59-55, but Yanku hit two free thows with 30 ticks left to make it 59-57.

The teams exchanged turnovers before Martin Breunig was fouled. Breunig missed both free throws with 15 seconds to play and Yanku again drew a foul and made two freebies to knot the game at 59-59 with 8.2 seconds to play.

The Griz called a timeout to set up the final play.

"That was something Coach DeCuire set up, setting a flat ball screen and trying to make something happen," Gregory said of the final play. "The big didn't hedge and I got a chance to squeeze pass him and thankfully I made the layup."

Riley Bradshaw added 10 big firs-half points off the bench for the Griz and Breunig finished with 10 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Mario Dunn had nine points and 11 rebounds, helping the Griz to a 35-32 edge on the boards.

"That NAU team came ready to physically compete," DeCuire said. "The best rebounding team in the conference and they showed that at the beginning of the game. I challenged these guys' hearts and their willingness to fight and compete and they held them to zero offensive rebounds from (the first half) forward.

"I'm proud of this team. Every guy who touched the floor tonight made a major impact for a team that I'm hella proud of. I don't think there's a person in this room other than us who thought we could get to this point. Whatever happens tomorrow, it's one helluva season for the Griz."

NOTES: As the regular-season champ, should the Griz lose in the title game they'd get an automatic berth in the NIT. ... Montana and Eastern split their meetings this season, each winning on the other's home court.

NOTES: As the

Bottom line

Montana 61, Northern Arizona 59

Stars: Senior guard Jordan Gregory made a driving layup with 0.4 seconds to play for the winning margin and finished with 21 points to lead the Griz (20-11). Sophomore Kris Yanku led NAU (19-14) with 26 points.

Up next: Montana faces Eastern Washington for the Big Sky championship Saturday at 7 p.m.

Woah. You could do that? Damn you ARE connected. Will you please let Fullerton know that some of us feel the BSC to deserve more. For example, a televised tournament, just like real conferences.

Thought there was a photo floating around the internet of PR giving Fullerton a massage.

I would be interested in knowing how the men's tournament got relegated to ESPNU, while the Southland is on ESPN2 at the same time, and the women's tournament is no longer televised at all. Does the network really feel a conference that features The Sisters of Incarnate Word University is a better draw than a conference that features UM?

All I have to go by is what video or still shot is posted, and what I heard on the radio. I love to see the Griz win, but Christ!

Didn't interfere or impact the play?????????? Edmonds is no more than 18" from the free throw line, and practically shoulder to shoulder with a Griz defender! The refs blew this one. I can see why Murphy was upset. Lost a chance to tie the game because of a non-call. Out of the tournament and probably done for the year. Ursa Major was right, Edmonds shouldn't see the court for the next year, minimum. Its pathetic that the players have to be the peacemakers because of a idiotic pubescent coach. Major suspension at least, termination possible. Mick Holien was right, "Bush League." Fullerton not only needs to review Murphys performance, but the non-performance of the refs.

He didn't interfere because the play was never live. After the basket and at that screen shot Nau grabbed the ball to nbpumd but no officials were in place and they were blowing play dead so they could make sure exact time was right and the shot was good. They can't call a T unless play was live there. No official was going to let them play on with so much unknown. 100/100 times that play is stopped and reviewed

The end of the game situations are entirely different between high school and college rules. In a high school game, yes the few fans and Edmonds would have caused a technical being called. However, in college the game clock is to be stopped upon the ball going through the net. At that point, the officials can request a review to make sure they can get the right amount of time left in the game. That is exactly what happened here.

When Edmonds went on the court, he saw no time on the clock. The officials did the right thing in stopping the game for review. Even if NAU had inbounded that ball as soon as it went through the basket, the game would have still been stopped for review to get the time right.

According to the way a college game is officiated, 2 things work in the GRIZ favor in this situation. (1) The clock showed no time left when Edmonds came onto the court. He had no way of knowing, there would be time put back on the clock after review. (2) The game was stopped immediately upon the ball going through the net.

Believe it or not, the officials got all that 100% correct, according to how they are expected to handle things in a college game.

My hero during the dust up was the smallish girl on the far fight side attempting to pull Griz players away from the turbulence. That girl is not real small but she is dwarfed by the tall players and she showed true grit by getting in the mix. If that is your daughter or wife I would be mighty proud of her.

All the hubbub about punches thrown (none shown) and more is made of this after game get together than should be. One MUST remain calm or end up sitting out a game or even worse sitting in a cell. Show some class and stay cool man!

You are 100% correct, as were the officials. I was posting this at the same time you were. :thumb:

I think you might need a mirror as well. at least 5 times you have referred to one of the officials as "the black" ref. I assume, then, he has no name, or you are being a somewhat jerk, here. As for the Big Sky Conference, I tend to agree that it has potential but right now is not good, no matter how hard you wish. When a conference semi final game is not even streamed well, then it is time to make some major changes. ESPN is also of that mind, as well. Consigning it's televised game to a side show. Next year might be an entirely different situation but face it, the BSC IS NOT a GOOD bball conference.

I don't know his name. He is Black. He is a good ref. If anyone deserved confrontation, it was the short bald ref, who was white. You weren't at the game. You don't have a clue what was going on.

I sent the tape to a friend of mine who is a veteran official official and couldn't care less about um, nau, msu, etc. Here's his take....

The officials had to blow the whistle to address the transfer student's interruption, which means it interfered with play, which means it should have been enough to assess a Class B Tech under 10-2.8:

Art. 8. Team followers (fans, bands, cheerleaders and mascots associated with either team) shall not commit an unsportsmanlike act, including, but not limited to, the following: ....
....d. Delaying the game by preventing the ball from being promptly made live or by preventing continuous play, such as but not limited to, followers entering the playing court before the player activity has been terminated. When the delay does not interfere with play, it shall be ignored.

Since they blew the whistle, it clearly interfered with play.
