GRIZ/NAU semifinal game thread

Griz and Jordan Gregory just on SportCenter. Shows him bringing the ball down the court and driving for the score. Says Montana is where Tinkle came from. Shows Edmonds coming out on the court (highlights him), and him running back and diving to the bench. Announcers said DeCuire spanked him. Said refs didn't call technical because he didn't interview with play. Shows some of the post-game melee, but doesn't say much about it. Shows DeCuire going off court and into locker room, but not his high-fiving the student section.

Yep it was Edmonds.
Travis let him have at after he dove back to the bench.

Your coach should not let him see the floor for the rest of the year after that rookie mistake. Makes you wonder how some of these guys even pass their classes.

Here is the writeup on ESPN about the game and the ending. From the article:

The ending was not without controversy. Someone from the Montana bench, whom the Big Sky Conference has identified as Jermaine Edmonds, an academically ineligible player for the Grizzlies, went out to midcourt before realizing there was still time remaining and diving back to the sideline -- a violation that could have resulted in a technical foul. But officials determined that the commotion did not interfere with the play, and no technical was called. However, when the head coaches met in the postgame handshake line, Northern Arizona coach Jack Murphy appeared to poke DeCuire in the chest and a scuffle ensued with some shoving but no apparent punches thrown.

"I did what I do after every game, win or lose; I'm going to shake a man's hand, win or lose and tell him good game," DeCuire told the Tribune. "The rest was entertaining."

DeCurie then went over to the student section to celebrate with the fans.

The Big Sky Conference said that commissioner Doug Fullerton did an initial review of the incident after the game.

"First thing, I want to compliment the players,'' Fullerton said in a statement. "The players as we watch them, there are no punches thrown, and they are breaking it up. They absolutely did a good job, both sets of players. The one thing people want to know about is (Montana coach) Travis (DeCuire). I see absolutely no action by Travis that would cause us to suspend him or cause any problems for Travis tomorrow. We're still reviewing the head coach at Northern Arizona.''

Not to mention Gregory traveled AND pushed off on his "game winning" drive. Good Lord. The refs might as well wear maroon and grey stripes.
Really. Dude your pathetic.
He is just mad because he found out Tyler Harvey wears an Oregon shirt under his uniform. Word is if EWU wins tonight Harvey is going to wear a Ducks shirt instead of BSC Champions shirt after the game and announce he is transferring to UO.

Thanks Bertram. That is a good view of the altercation at fullscreen. Any lip readers out there? Kind of looks like from the body language that Jack Murphy says something like, "you got lucky" when he jabs at DeCuire after the handshake.

...Actually, this one that is zoomed in makes it seem like Murphy only says two words initially to Travis...possibly an angry "good game" but maybe something like "f*** you."

Haha love the fire from DeCuire with the students at the end of that video! :thumb: Hopefully, this emotion/controversy will give some more passion to the Zoo Saturday and they get near sell-outs for both championships. Both the ladies and men have tough tasks ahead of them and will need the energy after each already having had 2 hard fought rounds.

No technical, as the fan didn't directly interfere or impact the play (stated by Bob Messerole(sp?)) to Mick on the radio feed. Also, UM player left bench after the clock hit zero.
If the "incident" occurred elsewhere with our Griz in NAUs shoes we'd all be screaming for justice.....
Agreed, I can see NAU's argument and also on the charge call on Yanku that could have gone either way as a block call (Riley was definitely moving but Yanku also dipped his shoulder and pushed off just enough. So, tough call either way).

I don't know the exact rules (and as a Griz fan, am satisfied with the "didn't interfere with the play" reason), but also doesn't the clock stop after a make that late in the game? From the 2nd video in my post above, it shows (in slow motion) that Edmonds dives off the court before the ball is inbounded. If he hadn't made that effort and wasn't off the court by the time the ball was put into play, would that have made a difference?

As the game ended and the refs started trotting swiftly to the exit (at the end of the NAU bench), the NAU coach charged out on the court (in a south by southeast direction) at the Black ref (who was probably just the closest ref to him).

The coach then moves to his left (sort of in the south by southwest direction I mentioned previously) towards the ref, but the ref gets around the coach.

Sounds like your stories are changing already...I CALL FOR A MISTRIAL!!! ;)

Actually, the tv video clearly shows that Gregory didn't travel or push off. Not even close. You are a total idiot.

That's pretty funny from "super eagle"....Weber's all-everything guard pushed off on EVERY step back 3-pointer and wasn't called once. And then he flailed his legs after the release and ALWAYS fell to the ground, attempting to get a foul called and was successful a couple times.

I showed these videos to my brother, who has officiated for about decade now. He said the officials made the right call. He feels the officials handled this 100% correct. If it had been high school ball, yes there should have been a technical called. In college ball, the clock stops upon the basket being made. At that time, the officials announced they were going to review replay for proper time on the clock, therefore what Edmonds and the students did could not have impacted the play. The officials had determined before that, the play would be reviewed.

Get us the Eff out of this joke of a conference!!!!!!!!

It isn't a joke conference. It's a very good conference. The piece on Sports Center leads with Gregory bringing the ball all the way down the court and scoring, and mentions that Tinkle came from Montana. The segment is good. It doesn't focus on any confrontation or shoving and doesn't make a big deal of that at all. You need to start thinking before you post, and stop leading with your agenda. Your bias against the conference is pathetic. If you are in fact at the tourney, let me know if you want me to arrange a meeting with you and conference officials.

Ha, typo. South by southeast.

Derek Buerkle put this one up on twitter, shot from under the Griz basket.

If you want to see the NAU coach trying to confront the Black ref, look at the left side of the screen as the camera pans to the left after the missed long shot to end the game. You will see the NAU coach moving forward (but not running) and in the path of the ref who is trotting/ running off the court. The coach sort of jumps and moves both of his arms down in any angry manner in front the ref, who then jumps/veers right to get away from the coach. The coach then moves to his left (sort of in the south by southeast direction I mentioned previously) towards the ref, but the ref gets around the coach. Doesn't look like there was any contact. The coach then continues forward towards DeCuire.

The GRIZ owe an unsuited player a world of thanks during that scrum. Jordan Gregory was way too worked up. He was forcing his way into the scrum. He was damn fired up and wanted a piece of someone. Fortunately, Jermaine Edmonds saw what I did, too. Edmonds hustled his ass right behind Gregory, bear hugged him from behind, picked Gregory off the ground, and hauled Gregory to the far end of the court by the students. Gregory was trying to get out. Edmonds would not let him go until NAU cleared the court. While holding Gregory back, he told Gregory something like, we need you man, it is not worth it. Even after he let Gregory go, he blocked Gregory from going back toward NAU. Gregory finally noticed he was now in front of the students, and went bezerk celebrating with them. Shortly after that, Travis Decuire greeted the students with high fives, hugs, and arm waiving. He got those students pumped up after the game, thanked them, and told them be back for the EWU game. Travis was pretty damn worked up as well. It was fun watching DeCuire and Gregory interact with the students after the game.

GoldStandardGriz posted a great video of that. You can see Gregory jawwing at NAU as Edmonds hauls him away. Gregory kind of jumps up and Edmonds just carries him away :P

You can see Krslovic playing peacemaker a bit in that video too.

Here was the video he posted:

Also captures DeCuire celebrating with the students. Love how fired up he gets for these games.

Looks to me that Edmonds made up for running onto the court early! :thumb:
Edmonds should be invited to sit with the Students for tonight's game.
Go Griz!

What's everyone's view of the NAU coach's attempt to confront the Black ref as he ran off the court? By the way, the tv video is better quality than the youtube video (which is the tv video). I previously explained that one needs to look at the left of the screen as it pans left after the last desperation shot by NAU. I like how the NAU coach uses the same jump/throw down both arms move twice in a second or two. Looks like a little kid throwing a tantrum.

Considering the magnitude of the game and x factors, I feel everything was handled fine. I feel there will not be any action taken against their coach, based on what I saw. However, if there was a punch thrown, then that is another story altogether. :thumb:

I didn't see any punches, or anything close to a punch, in real time or on the videos. The NAU coach is lucky that the Black ref is a good athletic and agile, or there probably would have been contact. The ref used his best Canada/Van move to get around the coach.

Was he the player who threw his head back and flopped on the "foul" by Krslovik out front onteh double team later in the game? Total total acting job, bought by one ref. I think the short bald guy. Krslovik's 5th foul too, I believe.
