Griz MBB Fall signees update

I have been away for awhile, but do not take it personally I am just lazy. Not a lot happening on the Griz recruiting front that I can tell, but I hear they are still somewhat active in the 2011 spring recruiting sweepstakes.

Just to review, Montana men's team only has one senior this year in Brian Qvale. This spring they signed two high school guards in Kevin Henderson of Auburn high school in Washington and Jordan Gregory of Pueblo East/ That leaves the Griz one scholarship over going into the spring recruiting period, so it is not that surprising that the Griz are not that active in the 2011 class. Still I do have a couple names that I hear the Griz are looking at, so it sounds like they are hedging their bets incase more than one player "decides" to leave. I will get into who the player are in my next post but in the rest of this post I want to look at Henderson and Gregory and their senior season.

Now if you have been following my Twitter account you will already know much of this info.

Jordan Gregory 6-2 point guard
Pueblo East high school - Colorado
27 points
29% 3pt field goal, 69% free-throw

Awards (so far)
2011 Pueblo Chieftain All-South-Central League MVP

Player Season: Pueblo East finished with a 15 - 5 record this year and made the state lay off. Unfortunately in his last game of the regular season Gregory got two technical's and was ejected from the game and suspended for the next game- Pueblo East first play off game. Gregory accounted for about 45% of E.P. scoring and they could not make up for his lost in losing that first game in the play-offs. Gregory was conference and league MVP and is on the short list for Colorado Player of the year.

Player’s Game: he reminds me a lot of current Griz Vaughn Autry, but a much better score. He already has a D-1 body and is very strong physical player. The knock on him has been his perimeter shooting but he has really improved that aspect of his game this year. He is not a pure shooter from three but he is dangerous enough from there to keep defenses honest
.
Kevin Henderson 6-3 shooting guard
Auburn high school - Washington
22 points, 7 rebounds
40% 3pt field goal

Awards - First Team SPSL 4A North

Player Season: Won the regular season SPSL 4A North with a 21-5 record. They lost in the play-off one game shy of making it to the State 4A tourney. The 4A SPSL league is the toughest league in the state of Washington by far. They typically send 6 to10 seniors a year to D-1 programs.

Player’s Game: Henderson is a very athletic scoring machine. If you compare Gregory to Autry, I might compare Henderson to Will Cherry - a little slower, not as good of ball handler, but bigger and a better shooter. He has really improved his three point shooting this year. This has made him even more difficult for oppositions to contain.

Indeed, welcome back. AS for Henderson not being as quick as Cherry, I think we can say that about most all GRIZ, current, and past. When healthy, he controls a game on both ends of the court.

Exactly

I have done a couple posts on two possible spring targets for the Griz

Malte Krame

Sorry Mslacat but the toughest league in Washington is not the SPSL but the Metro league with Franklin, Rainier Beach, Seattle Prep, and O'dea just to name a few.

Hmmm...regarding Krame, it is interesting that Cal Poly is not showing interest, at least according to the site, on a star juco player just 4 miles from their campus.

I have heard that the Griz are recruiting guard 6-5 super athlete Alex Carmen from California this spring. I have a write up on him on my Blog. Right now Pepperdine, San Francisco and Montana are his favorites with Montana State and Metro State also showing some interest. I do not believe he has any offered right now.

Are we still recruiting Kurtis Parsons? Would be nice to have another MT kid on the roster, even if he is a walkon...

Tinkle was at the AA tourney, showing some love to the CMR team.
