GRIZ/Lobos game thread

Had AJ not had an off night, the Griz would be moving on to play Washington again Saturday. But they played pretty well tonight. I've criticized Tinkle this year, but he had a good game plan for tonight. Made New Mexico look kinda lame tonight for supposedly the No. 8 team in the country.

Nothing like bringing the B game with our 3-pt studs. That half reminded me of the Villanova game... quit doing the right things and making idiot mistakes all over the place. I see hope for next year... and hopefully nobody else has a pic of Tinkle with farm animals... C- Qvale, PF- Selvig, SF-Young, SG- Taylor, PG-Cherry. But we need some depth in the front court. Hopefully we can grab one or two out of the JC ranks.

Hell of an effort and a great year. Qvale could be MVP of the league next year, if Selvig doesn't share it with him. AJ did his job even though he had a tough night he took the brunt of the Lobo prep time all week and freed up the other guys. We had a great chance to win with a couple shots dropping.
I think this game will set us up for recruiting and solidify the top guns we have coming in. Hell, Im not even pissed that Qvale waited all year to attack the basket. Nice work coaches. Thanks for the ride.

That was the #8 team in the country that we just took to the wire and would have beat with an average AJ game. I feel particularly bad for him....tough way to go out.

Griz should have won, if AJ could have hit the ocean we would've won. I know, I Know, sour apples...my point is this: If that is the number 8 team in the country I'll put my nuts in a blender. Griz played at 85% and had a chance to win in the final minute. They are way overrated.

Kudos to Tinkle, fantastic gameplan. Looking forward to next year, after seeing what they could do without AJ tonight, next year should be fun.

Great Job Griz!!!!!!!!!

If Anthony Johnson had just shot his season average, the Griz would have won 73-62.

Great game plan by the coaches. Great game by Qvale. Good defense by UNM.

Ok, so Johnson had an off-night, fair enough. But tell me this: how does a guy get the ball in his hands with 14 seconds left, down by 3, then proceed to haul ass down the floor and drive straight to the basket? Cold shooting I get; that kind of lame ass sh!t I don't.

My wife even saw that one coming and couldnt believe it....

Anyone???

I hope he's coachable. That one will be hard to forget.

BTW, what's up w/ you guys who obviously have internet access, but not the presence of mind to look for a live stream of the game....? CBS cuts away, and tv input goes to PC...worked great.

Cherry was trying to make something happen and get an easy 2 to put us within 1, and have some hope of them missing a FT so we don't need a 3 to tie it. It wasn't the best decision that's for sure (wish we would've called a timeout and maybe tried to set up a play for Stauds to get a look from 3), but occasionally you get that from a frosh player who was playing HS basketball last year. He's got a ton of talent and will be a lot of fun to watch over the next 3 years.

There were several things towards the end of the game that just didn't quite go right for the Griz unfortunately. Selvig missed a FT that would've really helped, Johnson getting stripped, Cherry's layup attempt that you pointed out, and going away from even trying to get the ball inside to Qvale the last 2 1/2 minutes of the game. I'm sure there are many examples the Lobo fans have of things not quite going their way earlier in the game too... those things happen :)

Anyway, great game by the Griz staying right with the 8th ranked team and a 3 seed like that.

Qvale wouldn't have missed that layup, whatever we do don't go inside to the hot hand!

You dumb ass...Qvale missed some bunnies too....nobdy is perfect....sure wish you would leave egriz...forever!

Congrats on the tough game. Your coach had a great game plan. It helped that other than the first ten minutes of the second half the Lobos played their worst basketball of the season. That was not the team I've watched all year. You guys can say the same with AJ.

Good luck next year.

Compare qvale and cherrys shooting % then apologize to us for your stupid attack.
The only thing I am sorry about is that I continued to read your posts...I will quit that!

Aj obviously has money riding on this game and is tanking it on purpose. Nobody can shoot that bad by accident

I think you are the one who should be apologizing... not just to the players who you've attacked and badmouthed while posting here (basketball and football), but to everyone else on egriz who has had to read your alpha-wannabe drivel.

But I'm sure you wont...in typical alpha fashion you will act like you are some poor victim here who never said anything that deserved the responses you are getting

I was the one defending mcgillis when people were trashing the kid so don't act like I was the one bashing players. I was supporting them and you know it. Alpha hates basketball and doesn't post anymore because of people just like you oh and the owner of this board, re/max, savage, northendzonecrazy, hammer and grizspartan etc have all met me a few different times at golf tournaments, tailgates and bars. So quit acting like mike is me.

So for any of you that are still fixated on alpha just golf in the venner golf tournament and I will buy you a drink you can meet me and alpha and then you can stfu and apologize for your fixation on that guy that you are now directing at me.

I wasn't saying you are alpha, just another alpha-wannabe attacking players with comments like you made about AJ, and other players earlier. The "trashing" that you did was way over the top and you know it. Suggesting that AJ had bet on the game and that's why he was missing shots? Seriously?

And kudos for doing exactly what I said you would do... playing the victim. Oh waaah Alpha doesn't post here because of mean posters like me huh? And now all of us evil posters who ran poor little alpha off are focusing our attention on you even though you never said anything to deserve it.. Give me a freakin break...

I think this game also proved that there will be life after AJ. I am already excited for next season.

Couldn't agree more. We'll definitely miss AJ a ton. He was one of the best griz guards we've ever had, and there's no way the Griz would've made it nearly this far without him and his leadership. What a great example for our younger players to have too. All of the seniors will be missed greatly. I think mtgrizrule summed it up really nicely in his thread titled "This season".

We have some great talent returning and some exciting recruits coming in too. Qvale was channeling Omar Samhan it seemed in the UNM game. He was flat out amazing. If he can play with that type of confidence next season, he's going to put up some big time numbers.

The victim thing was for you dexter x now you can feel like a big man for trashing a guy just because he has a differing opinion
