Just wondering if anyone else watched the Griz Hoops show. Sunday's show was interesting - Krysco "interviewed" Strait, and asked him about the coaching change. Strait didn't have a lot good to say about Kennedy, which surprised me a little. He said it is nice to have a coach that is focused on building the program.

Also, what would it take to 1) get some real microphones for the show, and 2) get a real show host. It is painful to watch right now. Does the U have any say, or is it all up to KECI?
 
:o :o Krysko and Strait set a good example. I think it was on this show that I heard something about bobcats pulling on the front of their jerseys after the previous game. I noticed this activity after the game and did not give it much thought. I had kind of forgotten all about it but Krysko said as a reminder he may have to rerun the tape.

Strait said Kennedy was a nice guy but he felt Larry K is more devoted to building the program. He didn't say anything negative about Kennedy other than that. The show is horribly put together. The videos shown in the background during the opening, in part feature players who have graduated. Scores from who knows when appear on the screen. Also, I don't know why KECI insists on hiring comedians as sportscasters. :mad: Chris Nettleton was awful and this new guy isn't much better. I watch the show because of my interest in GRIZ basketball but it is painfully halfa$$.
 
Kennedy had little to do with recruiting Strait. Wayne Tinkle has more
also Strait visited the campus on his own and was interested in going to UM. His brother is a very good athlete who was looking at the school for FB
 
Will sportscasters ever realize that we want them to be reporters and that the show isn't about them? You have to fight through their ridiculous antics just to find out the scores. I'm just glad ESPNews has that ticker on the bottom and I have the option to turn off the sound.
 
Is it just me or does the "interview" seem a little rigged. There are other guys on the team that would have a much better idea of the difference than Andrew. No offense to Strait at all, but he doesn't know the first thing about Kennedy. All Kennedy did was recruit him and that's just a small part of coaching. To me it sounds like an opportunity to give Strait some face time and put a good spin on Krysko. The situation sounds like a commercially correct statement that Kennedy was so good at doing. It's a little hypocritical.

If somebody who has actually played for Kennedy would have been asked the same thing, the remarks would have been much more credible. I like what Krysko has been doing for the team lately, but this just sounds like a publicity stunt. :-?
 
I see your point Mtgymrat but.....I don't think enough thought goes into producing this show to come up with such a scheme. I think Larry K is doing a fine job. It's a shame he has to appear in such a crappy production.
 
I disagree with having a freshman on already. I like what happens on the Robin Selvig Show. He starts with his seniors who have earned the opportunity the most.

Has Krysko had very many players on his show? It's no secret that Andrew is Krysko's favorite player, not a bad one to pick I might add, but you can't make it so blatant as a coach.

I guess I'm trying to look at it from a player's perspective. I'm sure they get excited about being on TV. Heck, how many of us were jacked just to have the chance to get 2 seconds on ESPN2 during the FB playoffs. If I had played for Kennedy and then Krysko asks a freshman about the difference, it adds insult to injury. That's a question for Chris McKay, Corey Easley or Kevin Criswell. Ask the kids who have learned from three different coaches. The players who have struggled through losing seasons and dwindling interest in UM basketball. For as much as Krysko believes in conservative, hard-nosed basketball, he doesn't appear to worry too much about rewarding his upperclassmen.
 
Heck its a show not the game winning shot, I wouldn't get to worked up over who coach talks with on a show. I also would hope that the older guys didn't take it as an insult, that would be 1st gradelike. Straight is a part of the new bright future. Who knows maybe the other guys had other stuff goin on at the time, just relax and watch the griz play their best ball in awhile, thanks to young guys like straight and having the leadership of KD and others.

1st about Strait, I think Krysco actually asked him about his thoughts when he found out Kennedy was leaving, how that affected him, and if he thought about not coming here, and Strait sort of took it from there - I don't think Krysco meant to set Kennedy up or tear him down, and Strait's answer was more like I didn't care that he left, and I think we got a better deal now. But Krysco I think just wanted to bring up the recruiting challenge of a player who the coach left before he started.

A few other players have been on the show, Matt Dloughy comes to mind, I think a couple others.

The show could easily be fixed with a good microphone and a professional journalist - have Mick do the show, or bring back Tod Reed for this show only. Have Kristian do special features for the show while learning how to run an interview show. It is just painful. BTW, I don't really blame Kristian, he is young and inexperienced, KECI needs to do a better job of getting these guys some experience and training instead of just throwing them in the fire. Before coming to KECI, Kristian bounced around quite a bit. After graduating from The University of New Hampshire with a B.A. in communication in 1999, he traveled to Lake Tahoe, California where he spent the year skiing at Squaw Valley. For the next 3 years he lived in Boston, MA. Then one day, sitting at his desk job for a financial company, he decided it was time to do something different. So he went to graduate school at Syracuse University, where he received an M.S. in broadcast journalism in 2004. The summer following graduation he was a runner for NBC Olympics in Athens, Greece. And then, by a great stroke of luck, he was hired as sports director at KECI.
