Griz FT shooting has become an annual curse

Time for WT to drag out Tip's his free throw shooting tutorial - or bring back Mandy or one of the other ex-LG who mastered the simple mechanics of the shot. Nobody is guarding you! Nobody will block your shot! Nobody will steal the ball! And you don't need anybody else on the floor to practice it! No damned excuse. I'm hanging this on Tink and staff. Seems like this subject was visited last year...2009...2008...etc.

Pathetic...

Yeah! It's undoubtedly Tinkle's fault when the players don't make shots. If he coached harder, the rim would be giving much more friendly bounces.

The times I have watched the Griz play, many of their players do not use good mechanics while shooting free throws. This art CAN BE TAUGHT. But, how many 6'10" players are good free throw shooters (besides Nowitski)? So, maybe Tinks was not a good FT shooter himself, and does not know how to teach it.

Some of these kids will not listen to coaching either. They start doing things wrong mechanically in high school, and can't (or refuse to) change.

I agree. The only real consist free throw shooter Tinkle has had was AJ. I think it's become a national problem for basketball players in that if the only time they shoot free throws is practices and games. When they're on they're own they practice three point shots, slams, or spectacular around the basket shots. For kids now days it's all about verticality. By the way I remember Tinkle as a good free throw shooter but then he couldn't jump.

I too am frustrated the GRIZ are inconsistent FT shooters. I can tell though, Will Cherry has put A LOT of time practicing FT's. His FR year, not only was his % bad, but the ball and his upperbody had way too much movement. Now, he is a 75% ft shooter, and looks much better from the line.

Art Steward is inconsistent. Jamar will get better. Wood has no confidence with any kind of shot (sorry, he is too much of a liability on offense, time to keep him on the pine). Reader and Ward, both look solid, they need to just find consistency. I have not seen enough of Hutchison to have an idea. I expect Deshields is capable of being a good ft shooter, again, have not seen enough of him. Weisner, just looks like he can shoot from anywhere, so I would think he is good at the line. Selvig, just like rest his offense, he needs consistency.

I really do wish I was in Missoula, and could watch these guys in person more. It is really hard to evaluate over internet feeds, and an occasional tv broadcast.

I saw Cherry in two live games last season. Unless he has changed his foul shot, his problems are two-fold. First, he shoots with his knees locked, instead of bending them and rising up during his extension on the shot. Secondly, he shoots the ball too flat. He needs to get more arc on the shot.
